2014 Coca Cola 600 - Pre Race Thread

Interesting enough, the first race i ever went to Tony Stewart pulled the double and barely made it to the 600 race on time. He was landing his helicopter at the track as the warm up laps began. Tony finally got on track, dove into the first turn to catch up to the rest of the field and spun it out. He was used to driving the Indy Car & went in too hot :p
 
How is the weather looking for tonight's race? There are some systems coming out of Lexington Kentucky moving SE right towards Charlotte.
 
6PM local forecast. Not so good.

Nah...the mountains will break that "system" up! If it does rain it won't be enough to matter much.
 
Back in the olden days you would see a lot of engines blow in that last 100 miles. Doesnt seem to happen much these days.
 
I've been saying it for a few yrs but it's time for downsizing at Charlotte. Looks like they didn't even sell tickets for the diamond tower off turn 2. Time to tear it down

I think that may be because everyone was in Indy today, and Kurt can't bring everyone to Charlotte on his jet.
 
Sometimes I don't make it all the way with this one. Thank goodness for DVR.
 
I remember one that I attended, I had to go back to the bus with about 100 miles to go --- listened to the finish on the scanner.
Got tired of
A. sitting on that damned hard metal chair on concrete with no knee/leg room
B. having only a tiny sliver of seat to actually use because some 500lb behemoth was taking up his seat and most of mine. I actually sat on
the steps in the aisle for a long while.
 
I'm so tired and my roommate is gonna want to restart the race when he gets home at 8..ugh

We've had that happen several times. I get aisle seats with a back and armrests now or don't go.
 
Any news on Gordon? Will he start for sure or not?
 
I'm ready! I went for a motorcycle ride to the beach this morning. DVR'd the Indy Race (so nobody spoil it for me :mad: .) Just got back from the market, got ice, beverages, wings, Buffalo wing sauce, Blue Cheese dressing and baby carrots. Ready for 600 miles :beerbang:

Nicole Brisco didnt work the 500 due to her husband racing today.

I dont think the owner of MWR should be doing race commentary either.
 
Chris Meyers doesn't know who Ryan Hunter-Reay is. Lol
 
Dont know about Charlotte (really Concord) but here about 130 miles South it has started raining, along with the Thunder and Lightning.
 
I know drivers need to do good things, it is expected of them.

But Gordon spending time with and encouraging the 14 y/o girl that had cancer is awesome. Good job. Work like that can never be overdone.
 
The sections in turn 1 need to be replaced badly. Old steel seat with little room. As the poster said earlier. I wouldn't sit there on a bet. The rest of the joint has fold down stadium seats. I stopped going to darlington because of the steel seats
 
That girl in the Gordon piece was a good singer, they should let her sing the national anthem sometime.

If they limit it to the grid walk, I will stop complaining about Michael Waltrip.
Darrell has to stop that boogity crap.
