2014 Daytona - Coke Zero 400 - Pre Race Thread

Speaking of driving distance, the average gas price in California is 90 cents higher per gallon than what I pay here in Northwest Arkansas. IF there was a chance that I could afford rent in California, I'd be stuck at home all the time because I wouldn't be able to afford gas prices.
It's $45 to fill my Focus and it averages 35mpgs.

Some rain at Daytona: There have been rain showers off and on today at Daytona International Speedway. As of 5:40pm/et its raining at the track, so the start of the race looks like it will be delayed, although all events are still on schedule at this time. NASCAR officials say they will provide an update at 6:30pm/et. The weather forecast calls for a chance of rain throughout the evening. NASCAR will have a competition caution at lap 20 tonight. See weather links on the Daytona race page - weather section.(7-5-2014)

Just another rainy day in the FLA, they sure are proud of that liquid sunshine.

7pm Florida time and the rain doesn't seem to be letting up. It's not heavy at all near the track and hasn't been for about an hour, but there appears to be several rain showers all around it.

Cali has one thing I don't think I could ever get used to --- random violent shaking of the ground. LOL

Plus the fact that it's expensive to live out there and this old lady's retirement wouldn't go very far.
Dont forget the fires. My girlfriend had to evacuate twice in a week & her childhood neighborhood was turned to ash & rubble.

Back to the race, according to my radar I predict will get to racing around 11 & have an incomplete race.

Here's one for Tony: ...Honey, I want to take you to Florida. Why's that? she says, because I want to Tampa wit ya.

Nope, but I don't believe that new feature on Accuweather. I've looked at it many many times when rain is anywhere close to our area, and it has NEVER been right.
It accurately predicted the rain a few minutes into the fireworks show last night, unfortunately. :(

The weather at the dirt track is clear and about 80 degrees. Stands are packed. Maybe the nascar race will get postponed till tomorrow and I can watch it live.
Either way, you guys enjoy the evening!

Whenever we get around to racing .............

For those who are continually griping/complaining/moaning/groaning about commercials, the miserable TV coverage, the horrible commentators in the booth ------ please don't.

We know there are too many commercials. We know we don't see all that's happening.

Let those of us who enjoy what we are seeing, do so.

If they do this we'll have about 20 post's. Just kidding but I think there will be a few people that will have a stroke from withdrawal from bitchin and a few from not being able to bitch about the bitchers. :D

The good news is that there is no curfew at this track and with lights, they can go well into the evening to wait for the start. Also, it looks as if once the rain stops, it will stay stopped so there won't be a worry about having to see a partial race. I hope they can get it in tonight. I think Racing on Saturday night on July 4 weekend at Daytona is much, much better than a Sunday afternoon race.

The bad news is that the rain isn't going to "pass by". It's not really moving much, so the only hope is that it falls apart once the sun goes down. I'd be all for running these cars at 3am! I'm still young...

Hey, you stole that from me....

I saw something that said Dega took 2 hours to dry after heavy rain. If it's still raining at 9pm, the fans may as well go home because I doubt they'll start this thing any later than 11.

They say the Air titan's do it on 30 minutes. they say anyway.:idunno:
It also will include vacuums that will work in conjunction with the compressed air that would help dry a 2.5-mile track such as DIS in about 30 minutes -- 20 percent of the current time.

DIS typically takes about two-and-a-half hours to dry. Last year's Daytona 500 was delayed until Monday night because of rain.

Holy crap, that current picture..the track is sopping wet. The rain seems to just develop out of nothing in the middle of the swamp state and sweep east.:)

How warm is it in Daytona? You would think that track would dry up fairly quick in July?

Figures, the one night I can actually stay up and watch a Saturday night race, it's probably gonna get rained out. :(

Look how wet that track is? Even if we go racing, are you thinking at least 2hrs from now?

Looking at the radar loop, the rain has started getting lighter all around the area, but as we know, even sprinkles can cause a delay.
