2016 AAA Texas 500 --- Pre-Race Thread

The way things are with the networks isn’t going to change in the near future.

May as well learn to do without, find a way around the owners of the rights or pay for their services.

So avoid whatever it is you usually use to view the lineup for 4.5 hours. If 10:30 is too late, DVR it and watch it first thing tomorrow morning; there's no way you'll learn who's on the pole when you're asleep.

I must be the only one who doesn't have problems avoiding qualifying and even race results for up to a day. Stay away from the racing web sites and those few sports shows that bother to acknowledge NASCAR. Ignore your social feeds for a while. It's not that hard. But maybe I'm missing the complications; somebody explain them to me, please.

Thanks, but it really isn't that important to me. If it was on live, I would tune in but not important enough for all that.

I have no problem avoiding information for a couple days... The problem is when you're out of town or planning to watch the race a day late or whatever, and someone texts you like "wow can you believe Chris Buescher just won Pocono?!?"

I'll take your word; I don't text. Can you disable that feature for a short period?

It’s live on NASCAR’s leader board thing.

In the words of John Blutarsky, “It don’t cost nothin’.”

Yeah, the corms started showing up here a couple of weeks ago. I expect mergansers in a few weeks. The gulls that winter in the K-mart lot shouldn't be too long now either.

We also get a few hundred vultures that spend the winter on one of the cell phone towers. It has horizontal cross members so they make good perches. Right beside a car wash, too :D

Our Turkey Vultures don't appear to be heading south at all. I haven't seen any wild turkeys for a while but the might just be in hiding. To add something to do with the race I hope JJ or a non chaser wins

Don't y'all fret any.

I ain't sayin' more'n I've already said. No names, numbers or sponsors.

Congrats to @austindillon3 on the pole @TXMotorSpeedway. His dad couldn't drive a nail.

So this is pretty cool bragging rights at home.

So, I see Sprint Cup Qualifying is on NBC Sports App at 6:30. No TV for Cup Qualifying? Ain't that swell..
Nascar is trying to force us into joining the social media crowd and It pisses me off. The only apps I do are the automatic ones on my PC.

I don't see how an app is expected to replace a big screen TV. Then again, I guess most people are at work on Fridays so they might be able to goof off on the job.

I didn't need an app. I watched it on my desktop computer on the NBC Sports web site:

Take the device with the app and connect it to the big screen, wired or wirelessly. I recently learned that's what's meant by the word 'casting' that I'd been hearing but didn't know what it meant.

That's nice you can do that.

Some of the weirdest ass practice times today. Bizarre. Looks like Carl has something figured out.

The top 6 in speed have me dumb founded. 10 consecutive laps does look more realistic.

That really sucks. The forecast yesterday showed the rain coming late tomorrow night.

BK says Jeffery Earnhardt’s drivin’ the 83 today - or whenever the race goes off.

Headed directly to the track and isn't light rain.:lol2: However, it looks clear behind it.

Yeah, that's why I call them weather "guessers". Line is about 75 miles to the West. The southern end may catch me in the Hill Country.

Weather guessers have dropped the rain chance to 30% --- and very light rain at that.
Of course, that means it may come a gully washing, frog strangling flood. LOL

And I did say this. ROTFL

That looks like a head to the basement kind of cell not light rain. The weather guessers must have been fall down drunk when they made the forecast.:lol2:

The system seems pretty narrow. So that could be a good thing.... I assume it's moving east?

Well it's not as narrow as I thought. Texas is f'n huge lol.

What are the chances we get this in?
Tomorrow appears even worse in terms of the weather.

Edit: answered above apparently

I'm ready! I have already did a pre check of the tv channel and everything is working 100%... and I already tested a couple chili dogs with cheese and onion and the taste has checked out incredibly delicious.:)

If we started at 12, as we should be, the race would get to halfway in all likelihood. I'm aware Texas is central time, but ive been to college football games that started in the morning and no one complained (except those still experiencing a severe Friday night hangover.) Instead, we're still nearly two hours from the green flag.

After a record rain delay season last year they are starting races even later in 2017. How can they expect better ratings if they set up for rain delay failures.
