2016 Charlotte - Bank of America 500 - Pre Race Thread

Kudos to NASCAR for making the right call (never thought I'd say that again). This sport is about the fans and NASCAR placed their safety above all else. Plus postponing the race eliminates an A.M. finish time so most viewers don't have to stay awake way past their normal bed time. It's a win-win situation.
 
We could be racing right now! The rain ended well over three hours ago.

NASCAR made the wrong decision for fans at the track who can't attend tomorrow.

Pretty easy to armchair quarterback isn't it? You need to be hired by Nascar to make the tough decisions like tonight.... Hindsight is always 20/20..... I'm glad you make the perfect decisions...
 
NASCAR made the decision to postpone the race this morning, not tonight. Why?

Until today, NASCAR would always wait a few hours after the scheduled start time before postponing a race in hopes that the rain would clear out.

Unlike most weather events, this one had the potential to cause legitimate harm to those who were planning on attending the race. This wasn't just your average thunderstorm. Hurricanes are unpredictable and there was a chance it could have caused catastrophic damage in the Charlotte area. I will always be completely fine with NASCAR postponing races many hours or days before the scheduled race when weather events such as this are real possibilities.
 
There was never a legitimate concern for "catastrophic damage" in the Charlotte area. The center of Hurricane Matthew is too far east of Charlotte.
 
Don't get me wrong, I would have loved to watch the race tonight and will no longer get to watch it tomorrow, but I'm not even half as upset as the guy above me appears to be. Yes the rain did quit early and yes they could have maybe even started on time or close to it. But none of that matters since they called the race early in the morning. They've likely only hurt themselves because clearly football tomorrow will steal quite a bit of viewership. Things happen...we disagree...and we move on.

Anybody buying race tickets ought to know by now to schedule a day of vacation for the day after in case of weather. If you can't do that, then either wait until race day to buy tickets or accept the possibility you may have to eat those advance tickets with your Cheerios.

Suck it up. It's a sporting event. Your life ain't gonna end. You're not sleeping in a shelter until you can see what waterlogged possessions the storm surge left you.

Because its a fkn hurricane. Postpone it at 9 am, maybe before a majority of the people attending even started to make their way to the track.
 
Does anyone here remember the dreadful 600 earlier this year?

A night race at Charlotte this season is the last thing NASCAR needs for entertainment draw.

Youre not getting it.

Its not about the track conditions.

Its about the conditions of the travelways for fans coming to the track.

Interstate lanes were reversed, highways were flooded & had trees being uprooted at random falling across lanes. Not ideal travel conditions.

Looks a lot like the crowd when I went last October. That was held on Sunday after a rain delay too. I already had plans for today or I'd be there again. I'm big on rain delays at Charlotte and Atlanta, and reduced traffic and great seat selection are two reasons why.

To be fair, SMI/ISC's attention to having two races at tracks that don't deserve two races doesn't help either.

Again, this wasn't a concern in the Charlotte area. This was all in the eastern part of the state.

NASCAR made the correct decision for all involved to postpone. Good on'em. You never know exactly what a Hurricane is going to do, speaking from many experiences with them.

Last I read 9 people died in NC due to the hurricane.
