Not looking good for practice.

Let's hope "Hermine" stays on schedule and is out of there by Saturday night. It's predicted to dump 4-8 inches or more of rain.Or better yet, hope it swings way out to sea.

It'd be great if it just ****** off to sea.

Great Southern 500 - maybe the best ever:

For non - old school folks - yes - nascar was even worse back in the day. They didn't even know who won until after the checkers. This is an awesome video. Most of it is boring stuff but there was a big fireiry wreck about halfway through that I wouldn't normally mention except the driver got our okay. I loved how the announcer - famous guy - Jim McKay - kept calling the king "Dick Petty" - LOL. Then it looked like Junior Johnson had won the race!

Chris Economaky (sp?) was also a big player in the announcing. It was on the "Wide World of Sports" so I think it was only non-stop in the South.

Then they said Larry Frank had won after the checker - no burnouts - just arguments.

Probably a few fights in the pits to boot :D

I've looked at four different forecasts this morning. Every one assure Friday's practices will be a complete washout (90% or higher), but that the rain should move out well before noon Saturday. Sunday should be perfect.

Had to do some digging in the NWS archives. I see that Friday's practice was completely rained out before the 1959 Southern 500 @ Darlington. Maybe this is Mother Nature's Throwback? :D

Was listening to Ricky Craven on SiriusXM NASCAR Radio talk about his win over Kurt Busch @ Darlington in 2003. Still one the most memorable wins in the history of the sport, for me anyhow. That guy's a calls act. Represents the sport well. Very knowledgeable and personable. He talked about how much that win meant and still means to him. Said that it pleases him to know how much it meant to NASCAR fans in general. Great stuff!

Couldn't agree more. Ricky Craven is fabulous. Not sure that he is at his best in the booth but a studio gig where he can methodically break stuff down. Just awesome.

^ ^ ^ ^ when the flag was where it’s supposed to be…..

Ugh, all these pics and the NBCSN show last night make me wish I was going this week. Maybe make the trip again next year. Nothing beats the Southern 500 on Labor Day for me, not even the Daytona 500.

I know this is for the cup race.. Perhaps should make another thread but oh well...

Truck race in Canada this weekend.. And guess who is going to be on Norm Bennings crew.. Thats right.. This guy!

Not sure if anyone recalls my thread about Rob Taylor the NASCAR artist? Anyway.. Through his drawings he somehow got hooked up with Norm a few years back and has been helping him out during the race in Canada every year since.. This year he happened to need an extra guy and I got the call! Not sure exactly what Ill be doing yet.. Last year Rob was his spotter. All I know is Im getting paid with admission to the race and I cant wait!!

I LOVE Norm Bennings. I understand he is popular with the other drivers and their crews. Have a great time!

Well I only see 32 trucks entered so he should at least make the race

LOL well like I said Im not really sure what I'll be doing yet.. but I'll be sure to come in and keep everyone posted. From what I know we leave Saturday morning.. probably get there shortly after first practice.. soon as I know anything about anything it will be posted here for sure. I'm still a bit hesitant, it's kind of hard to believe lol so hopefully everything happens the way I think it will. All I've had to do so far was give my drivers license number and I'm told we're all good to go.. So far all I know is we're on the 63 team.. the guy who hooked me up with this is sort of a joker so until I'm there and have met Norm I'm still unsure of what will go on lol
