2016 Richmond - Federated Auto Parts 400 - Pre Race Thread

Bout time for a good Richmond race. If there's a track that been in a serious excitement drought it's this one.

Wasn't a fan of the spring race

I agree as Richmond used to be must see TV but the last few races have not been great, IMO, so hopefully this one will start a trend back to them being good again.

The most refreshing thing this year: There isn't likely to be much Chase drama, so perhaps the commentators will actually focus on the race. I've come to dislike Fall Richmond because of the constant barrage of 'points as they run', 'if the race ended now' etc all for drivers who have an almost 0 shot of actually winning the championship.

My main programming today will be hockey and football and it may be tomorrow morning before I either get the race or finish it up. Either way once I start hearing the points as they run BS or the cut line crap the mute button gets hit hard.

Kind of interesting, out of all the 2005 Chase drivers , three are no longer racing, Mark Martin ,Jeremy Mayfield and Rusty, so going forward 10 years, I wonder how many drivers from the 2016 Chase will still be driving in 2016

In 10 years if the cars fire up for the chase and no one is watching will they still make a sound?

The Richmond race earlier this year was great.... What do some of you guys need:confused:

I can't remember the specifics of the spring race but I know the last few night races have not been as good as in years past, IMO. Part of the issue may be that despite all the crap Nascar has pulled you could always count on good races at Bristol, Richmond and Martinsville but now it is only Martinsville.

if buscher (sp) can win.....why not dp #neverstopbelieving

The only surprise winners of shortened races that come to mind are JLo (at the time a surprise) and Chris Buescher although I am sure others can remember more. However improbable these sorts of things are they are not impossible and she finished on the lead lap this spring and one other time at Richmond so fingers crossed!

Buescher is an Xfinity champ, wheelman, has actually scored a top 5 in his career (besides the win), and is a future star. Should I go on?

It would be great to see some of the drivers in lesser funded equipment trade places with some of the drivers in well funded rides. I am not saying guys like Algaier and Cassill are going to rip off 5 wins each year but I am confident they would be in play for some top 5's and 10's.

So that's why you want bonus money..................................
Hey, the ladies like it when I make it rain.

[disclaimer] I find the scattering of money to watch people grub for it to be a disgusting, degrading practice. [\disclaimer]

I'll still hear 'em.

Yeah, I thought about that. One big difference leaps out to me: the spring race was run in the afternoon.

"Never give up, never surrender!"

Bowman is certainly doing more in the #88 than he did in his previous Cup tours.

This is my favorite part of the season.. When we start counting points as they run and seeing whos in and whos out and who needs to finish where to move on.. There is 3 or 4 races in every race from here. I love it.

As long as at least one of us is having a good time!

The night races in the 90s and 00s were good with burton Gordan and Harvice Rudd. We really just need the drop snout car back but nobody listens to me. The car is safe enough with HANS

Love ya Sliced! Right with ya!

Getting excited for the race to start. I've talked big about this race to my co-workers about how exciting it is and what exactly it means, but I've also remembered times where this race had zero excitement. Here's to hoping for a fun and exciting race with hopefully no controversy. Well, time to start the cheese dip.

Chase is up 39 points on Newman. So I'm rooting for a Chase win, but will also take a repeat winner here. 39th or better gets it done. Let's dothat

Should be a good race. I'm hoping for a crap-ton of passing instead of long green flag runs for the single guy that hit the setup.

I tried to get on board with the kid in the 24 this year. I never got there. Talented young man but I just couldn't pull for him.
My season pretty much ends tonight. I'm not going to "chase" my tail. It's been a good season overall. :punkrocke
