2017 Dover - Apache Warrior 400 - Pre Race Thread

Doesn't matter. That isn't a mindset to have. He has the results. Doesn't need to rationalize why he shouldnt be over confident.

He's RUN well there before anyway

Kenseth is the same way, he will correct a talking head in a heartbeat. I'm not as sensitive as others on that personality aspect of Elliott's. Except it isn't what sponsors are looking for maybe. He has done a bang up job this year, makes few mistakes, and runs as well as any Hendrick car at this point.

A bad day for Truex is like a 10th place kind of day.

Drivers wish for a car that good on a consistent basis.

Yes, but as an athlete, intangibles and mindsets matter.

It's why guys like Brady and Johnson, even Harvick can reach down and be winners.

Harvick hasnt had speed lately and you could hear it in his voice after qualifying, "well we won this race a few years ago and typically run good here, we'll be fine". Speaking it into existence.

Chase was being more rationale. In a shootout between those guys, Harvick will beat Elliot. Mindset DOES make a difference, and I think Chase could be running even better if he had a shift in his mindset. If a driver or athlete is talented, mindset is tanscendent

Matter of opinion, it doesn't work for 7 time
“That stuff doesn’t work for me,” Johnson said. “It’s not how I got to where I am. So I don’t know if it’s my lens and how I look at things. I’m always in that space of worrying and trying to stay on my toes.”

Read that article. Yeah, Johnson isn't a killer. But he's real, and emotionally intelligent. But that is still backed by confidence. He is STILL a winner. Mentally. He's someone who would have succeeded in many disciplines. He's just a successful personality, like Brady.

Chase is young. And VERY smart in my opinion and incredibly self aware. He has a lot of potential

Brady is the most Jordan like athlete around today.

Idk how it looked to everyone else, but I never thought the game was over..even after 28-3

I normally take my dad to this race, neither of us cared to bother today and decided to drag a TV outside today so we could watch and grill in the backyard instead. Crowds have gotten less and less at Dover and they refuse to drop the face value prices. There's no reason every seat in the upper level of turns 3 and 4 should all be 98 bucks plus all the fees. Didn't feel like dealing with the traffic either.

It's the first fall race we have missed in years and I gotta say sadly I really don't care at all, we are still spending time together watching the race and that's really all that matters.

The only thing I'm really missing is getting the chance to wave goodbye to Danica in person lol

My predictions for today:

#18 and #78 tangle on the track while #31 and #41 have post-race words.

#48 leads most laps but #1 wins the race on 4 fresh tire after a late race restart from 5th place.

#1?

My prediction is 78 or 18 leads most laps. If we get late race restart and 48 is in top 3, he wins. Aint now way 78 or 18 are outwheeling that guy here if he can smell victory.

Otherwise, 42 or 24. I dont see KB and Truex sweeping round 1

There's a big difference there. Harvick HAS done it, and KNOWS he can do it. Chase hasn't done it yet, so there is always a little doubt in the back of the mind. Once he breaks through and wins a couple of races, especially if he "steals" one, a race where he shouldn't have won, but just flat snookered somebody, his confidence will soar.

Im not sure how much sports psychology you have, but I can speak from experience as a former collegiate athlete.

Mentality is certainly key, but theres a host of many factors.

In autoracing, confidence can excel although intangible assets do not create speed for the car. Thats all mechanical engineering.

Bit of a long shot, I know, but sometimes you just have to step out there :)

JJ is starting 17th and unless some miracle has happened to the track, it will be hard to get to the front. It would be hard I would think to know what kind a car you have way back that far. But yeah if he sees blood in the water I'm right with ya there. Larson if he doesn't tear up his car will do the same thing. That has been pretty much the only way for another brand to win one these days, steal it on a late restart. I expect another Toyota fest, the aero advantage will pan out over the long run. Truex has a little better car usually than the 18 and he makes less mistakes. 78 for lap leader.
