2017 Richmond - Toyota Owners 400 - Pre Race Thread

Austin Dillon rolls out for Q and deliberately posts a lap in the low 80mph range, apparently with the goal of saving his tires for the race. I've been waiting all year for someone to try it.

I enjoy DW during practice, Q, rain delays, etc. He seems more relaxed, less inclined to jump to conclusions. It's that period between the command and the checkers that I can't stand him.
I too enjoy DW during everything but the race, he is just different during the race.

Austin's team had been penalized for failing inspection like 5 times at Bristol, and part of that penalty was starting from the back and losing pit stall choice regardless of qualifying, so it didn't make any sense to waste tires on qualifying.

However I don't understand why he even went out and did the slow lap. Couldn't he have just elected to not qualify. Johnson didn't attempt to qualify at Fontana. So unless they changed a rule since Fontana not sure why he did the one slow lap unless it was some kind of protest statement over the penalty.

Low 90s this weekend, high 60s next weekend.

As long as it's clear I guess.

Happy Birthday Dale

At the end of Xfinity qualifying Adam Alexander called Shannon Spake Shannon Spank and kept trying to correct it. Idiot. Calling @Greg :D

I shoulda went to the race this weekend. Socked in with rain and fog, temps in the low 50s here in Toledo, I'll take some summer warmth and short track racing gladly

Uh, April 29, 1951…………………………………...

Someone may wanna recalculate. Take it from someone else from that magic year.

I'm not one on specific dates....... as they usually mean nothing..... unless the cops pull you over and you find your license just expired by 1 day....... then...... Dates DO mean something......

Maybe a tough day for Dale Juniors. They said he he is running a Nationwide car. They went to Xfinty a few years ago. That makes the car at least 3 or 4 years old

Wow there were more people at this race when it was delayed by a day 2 years ago than there are there today
