2018 - Daytona 500 - Pre Race Thread

They moved it so they can get more people. Qualifying was getting less than 5k. So If you get 30k on Sunday and 12k on Saturday you'll have 7k more fans attending.

First February race at Daytona this year coming up Saturday on FS1
February 10, 2018, 04:45 PM - 07:00 PM EST

They rescheduled the clash this year after it got rained out last year and liked how it paired with 500 qualifying. The result? The forecast shows great looking weather for Saturday and RAIN all day Sunday. Just swell.

Any prerace predictions on who wins the poll? As the "biggest" story-line some how ends up there I'm gonna throw out the Chase Elliot, driving his dad's number #9 car. Also, it would be his third in a row. That adds a little more punch to the story as it ties the old man's and Kenny Schrader's record. Oh, the NASCAR (cough, cough) would jump for joy.

Not sure if this is what you're looking for or not. I dnd't see anything related that was more recent.

Loads Of Front Downforce
The 2018 Toyota Camry was designed to enhance the front downforce on their car. With NASCAR taking away downforce on the car in 2017 there was a push to find more downforce than what the rules would allow for. On the Camry, the front end is designed to promote aero grip and get the most front down force on the car as possible. In the picture below the front down force enhancements are highlighted;

On each side of the nose the “air ducts” are angled in a way to enhance the downforce on the front end. Combine that with the indent of the air ducts and you have an extension of the splitter essentially. Same goes for the grille area by the Toyota emblem. Right above Camry the body rolls in and that lip creates more downforce. The front end of this Camry was designed with downforce in mind, really smart design when you look at it.

I am sure NASCAR will help Danica anyway they can. ;)

I definitely think the 9 (the real 24 team) and 88 teams are in play per usual if they can find the speed in the new car quickly, other than them all of the major Ford guys are contenders imo.

Yea it seems cheap I just got off phone with them!! 99 for start finish line !

They originally had William Byron and Cole Custer on the early entry list for the Lucas Oil 200 on Saturday but they've since been removed.

As always will give NASCAR another chance this year if the cheating stops

What’s so cool is this is the same design they use on their Camry XSE. Awesome to see a manufacturer actually take racing ideas to the showroom.

Ya know, there's a thread over here you might really enjoy. :D
Nah, I'm good. You just wait to see what I have in store for you coming up at the beginning of the next three days. I don't want to ruin the surprise but let's just say that the numbers are about to get a little bit smaller. I may even throw in a color change. :eek:
