2018 - Daytona 500 - Pre Race Thread

why u say that ? please explain why thank you
I-4 is a nightmare man - especially around Orlando right now with construction, etc. Traffic is going to be a factor no matter the time of day.

Fun fact, the stretch of I4 from Tampa to Orlando was also voted the deadliest stretch of road in the country last year LOL.

I know how the prices in Daytona and Ormond beach get on race weekends, it's a joke. I'd definitely look in Flagler though, you might find something. And it would be a super easy commute to and from the track from there.

Or maybe Airbnb?

You won't see the increase in practice IMO...and maybe not even qualifying. Fully expect sandbagging. Clash and Duels could be awesome. I am jacked for the changes and the impact they will have on speed. Jamie Mac says that NASCAR is bringing different plates to address it. This is why I think you will see teams play the cat and mouse. I love this sh!t.
Hey man just wanted you to know I agree with you this gonna be a great show and the unknowns are gonna be fun. Didnt mean for my post to sound like debbie downer.

Its a week earlier then usual right? I thought the Clash was Valentines weekend?
Correct. They wanted to get the 500 back to being on Presidents Day weekend. May have something to do with the 60th running, idk. We'll have to see if it sticks going forward. I like it being earlier though.

As far as the clash, no idea why they tinkered with that. Nobody is going just for the ARCA race Saturday. I'm going for the 3 practice sessions on Saturday and then I'm out.

About 10 years ago there was talk about the nfl adding more games. The super bowl would have been on the same day as the 500 so they moved the 500 a week earlier. The nfl won’t be adding anymore games for at least 3 years so they moved the 500 back.
Qualifying was getting less than 5k. To get more people they moved the clash back to Sunday so they can get about 35k. The arca race should draw about 12k(the target they set). With this set up about 8k more people will buy tickets.

I think NASCAR's got a guy sitting in his bag chair, under his EZ-Up along the exit ramp to the track. He's writing down car numbers as the trucks drive by. I think he'll have the list completed sometime later this afternoon.
:D

Is he awake and / or sober, and how do I get that job? I'll bring my own chair and pop-up.

I think they hired @Johali. So, chances are he's hammered. I mean, the day does end in a 'Y', right?

He always brings extra beer though so your all set.
Lovely. We'll wind up with an entry list of every biker, beach bum, and Canadian that rolls down US 1. I can see it now:

#24-Hour Jerr-Dan Towing
#7-11 Supply Truck
#1-Hour Martinizing
#1040 Tax Service

Just drove to Volusia Speedway from Lakeland and I echo this loudly. Orlando is an absolute mess right now.

So with no one going home, no reason to have the qualifying races. They should just use that day as an extra practice session.
