Well, it is only Wednesday. Hard to put a lot of faith in these predictions.
Wednesday forecasts just determine whether I pack a rain coat or jacket. Saturday evening forecasts determine whether I go to the track Sunday morning or find something else to do in the area.

This is the first Saturday schedule I've seen that shows TV coverage! YAY! :punkrocke

Well, it is only Wednesday. Hard to put a lot of faith in these predictions.
I know I know, I've tried to look away all week. Over the weekend it was around 20%. This same thing happened last year though, showed rain all week leading up to it. Race day comes and it says it was going to clear up by about 6pm. So I hop in the car hightail it and sure enough, after driving over there from Tampa it still got pushed.

I honestly don't remember the last Daytona race or practice that I've gone to that wasn't affected by rain at some point, their weather stays pretty consistent. Just hope they get it in as I don't want to have to burn a day off from work and drive back over again.

I spoke with a rep at the speedway the other day because when they released the speedweeks schedule it referenced the Fanatics superstore tent opening in the midway each day. Last year they mentioned that the tent would still be present at the larger races like Daytona and the Coke 600, etc. but we didn't see that happen, so I was curious. I was told they would still have the haulers for the larger teams and would also have the tent to include the smaller tier teams. Not sure to what scale the size of the tent will be, but we'll see. The schedule now reads "Fanatics Trackside merchandise area open in Midway".

This seems more promising than the national forecasts - those are almost making it seem impossible that they get anything in on Sunday. Calling for AM thunderstorms and afternoon, 80% :(
I'm showing 20% Sunday and 80% on Monday.

Without an actual nascar event on Saturday, is parking the same where free parking is at lot 7, or can a person park closer to the track?

I'm wondering the same. I'll be out there pretty early and plan to probably just park af Best Buy like usual. I'm sure it'll be at least $10-15 sadly.

they saying speeds might be up to 15 mph faster!!!! yikes lol
Without a stopwatch or them telling us, I probably wouldn't notice. Especially watching on television. There is no sense of speed when I watch from my couch. That's the great thing about getting up off my a$$ and going to the race.

well you need to go lol!! ill be there, but anyways just knowing they could be going 15 mph faster is crazy dont u think ? thats crazy going around daytona lol

but reason why i think its crazy because wasnt they suppose to be slowing the cars down?

You won't see the increase in practice IMO...and maybe not even qualifying. Fully expect sandbagging. Clash and Duels could be awesome. I am jacked for the changes and the impact they will have on speed. Jamie Mac says that NASCAR is bringing different plates to address it. This is why I think you will see teams play the cat and mouse. I love this ****.

so they bringing plates to slow it down???? :( i hope not!! i want to see them go faster hahaha.. are you going down to daytona?

This from their website...

Free parking will be available in Lot 2 across from Daytona International Speedway for the weekend of the Lucas Oil 200 Driven By General Tire, DAYTONA 500 Qualifying By Kroger and Advance Auto Parts Clash.

By the way, I think the ARCA race qualifies as an actual event. :)

They only have 2 practices on Saturday leading up to Qualifying and then the Duels on Thursday. They wont be holding anything back, they dont have time.

If the cars actually run 10-15 mph faster (which I doubt), expect NASCAR to slow them down at Talladega.

They'll be using plates; it just a question of which plates (openings) NASCAR will issue.

You don't get a great sense of speed at Daytona in the stands either, place it too big. Unless you're down by the fence. Then it'll literally blow the hat off your head.

is it any near beaches there i could stay at besides daytona?? i still havent got a room yet .. i might have to stay in orlando
