2018 Dover - AAA 400 Drive for Autism - Pre-Race Thread

I'm still tossing it around. Tickets are going for $20 on stubhub! I want to go but even more I want to see a race. It's about a 3.5 hour drive....
I went to Atlanta (a 3.5 hour drive for me) with $30 tickets, and that was 1998 dollars. I've also run over there three or four times on rain-delayed Mondays. What would you be doing with those 7 hours if you weren't going?

Here's two pics of pics from my first trip to Dover in 1990. Bill Elliott won which thrilled my father. I wouldn't miss another Dover race until spring of 2011.

Is anyone familiar with the traffic patterns at Dover these days? We use to always pick up route 9 by Delaware City (by the oil refinery) and take that all the way down to Leipsic Road. This route literally bypassed 95% of the traffic that use to get backed up on route 13 and route 1. No joke when I say that even at Dover's peak attendance we never sat in traffic for more than a few minutes getting in or out of the track. We would park on the east side of route 1 and walk across the bridge to track. I'm just wondering if those lots are still for car parking or if it's strictly camping.

We come down rt 1 and haven't had problems in years, but it's also about 6:30 am so I dont know what it looks like later on. Never parked over there though so I'm not sure on that

I come through at about 10. The toll booth just off the exit for the track backs things up for miles at that time. I've started taking the exit before in Smyrna to avoid it.

Yeah I've never come down that late we get there early to tailgate so I've never dealt with that

Well hopefully that crap to the south continues on its course out to sea and doesn’t drift north so all we have to deal with are the cells to the west.

Hope we don't get that start/stop/restart cycle we had going on at Bristol. My DVR has gotten enough of a workout already this season.

I decided to stay home rather than risk what seems like a coinflip with weather. My hope is "third time will the charm" with Pocono next month.

If you haven't been before you're better off skipping Pocono anyway, miserable place to see a race live, you miss basically all of the action being there.

If I lived on the West Coast I would welcome earlier start times.

They have it perfect for NFL. The early games start at 10:00, afternoon starts at 1:00 and primetime starts at 5:15 so by the time the game ends it's only about 9:00

If it was Nascar start at 12:00 east, that way it begins at 9:00 on the west coast done by 12:00 ro 12:30 and you have the rest of the day to look forward to
