Predictions are a fun way to pass time waiting for the season to start. What do you think we'll see this year?

I'm going to say we'll get some Chevy dominance, taking back the manufacturers championship from Toyota.

Logano bounces back, wins 3+ races and makes it to at least the round of 8. (Hoping for the championship but don't want to push it)

Final four contains all three manufacturers.

William Byron wins before Chase Elliot.

Bubba wins before Almirola.

Erik Jones is the highest finishing Gibbs car in at least 10 races.

Logano wins on the roval.

Danica finishes every lap in the 500.(both)
 
Is there a limit to predictions or can we rattle off as many as we want?

Menard, Bowyer, Almirola make the playoffs.

I think the Hendrick team is much stronger this year as is Stewart Haas. The Penske's are always in the mix, Blaney will make them even better. Larson is a question mark. He sure was driving smarter last year than in years past. I could see him going to the last race of the playoffs, he could win it all. The 78 and the 18 will be strong but not as strong as last year I'm guessing. This season is shaping up to be a good one.
 
Lots of series sponsorship drama all season - Monster Energy will say they want to stay, but they will want a lower price (again). Brian France will stir the drama by making inappropriate and incoherent public statements... which frighten off other potential sponsors and strengthen Monster's position. In the end Monster will sign through 2020, but at an undisclosed price (that will be less than today's $20 million per year). Then the TV networks will want to renegotiate their contracts...


NASCAR will announce intentions to beef up its support of local tracks... only to continue to ignore them.


Another year of attendance and TV ratings drops. Tracks will remove more seats, and replace some of them with VIP suites and bars. At least one track will consider operating a bar / nightclub that is open to the public except on race weekends (when it will only be open to VIPs).


The Charlotte road course race will turn out to be a "what the heck was that?" event - just like it was in the old days. Expect a pileup that completely blocks the narrow track.


Danica's press will last longer than either of her race attempts.


William Byron is Rookie Of The Year. (Although I'm rooting for Bubba.)


Big debate about what model Ford will use to replace its Fusion. Mustang fans will gripe, but Ford will return to the Taurus.


NASCAR's "rules stabilization mode" this year means that they will wait a few races before changing or adding rules, but then will go back to their previous habits. Rules changes will be reinstated due to complaints about the new Camaro ZL1.


The new Incident Data Recorders will be a disappointment since they will be tripped too late. NASCAR will first play with the amount of force it takes to trigger them, then will consider installing continual telemetry to monitor and record actions of all cars and drivers during the race so they can obtain data that uncovers causes of wrecks... teams and drivers will balk because it'll be too transparent.


At least half the races will start less than a full field of cars, particularly towards the end of the season. Top teams losing full sponsorship is not new anymore, but we will still be surprised at which teams / drivers continue to struggle to find sponsorship. Another big name driver will get forced out (probably McMurray). Stewart / Haas will cut back (probably Bowyer) due to Haas running low on money, and bad press / social media outcry over Stewart's Kevin Ward lawsuit, hurting their sponsorship hunt.


Infighting at Team Penske will hurt all three of its teams' performances.


Pit crew over-the-wall, lug nut gun, and standardized roster rules will increase team costs instead of easing them. Athletes capable of performing well under the new rules will command higher salaries than what the lower-funded teams can afford. The media will start to notice crew contracts and trades, similar to the NFL free-agent market, in NASCAR.


Earnhardt Jr. will prove to be a good race commentator.


The #6 Roush Fenway car will become a rent-a-ride for well-heeled drivers looking to get back into the sport. Matt Kenseth will take advantage.

Hendrick Motorsports experiences a marked improvement in their performance.
Ty Dillon will not get his first Cup top ten at any track aside from the restrictor plate tracks.
Buescher destroys Allmendinger in their intra-team battle.
First wins for Jones, Bowman, Elliott, and Byron come this season; Elliott and Byron get multiple wins.
 
Ford dominates the plates.
Toyota starts fast and Chevy evens things up by the 600.
Larson battles Kyle Busch for the Championship.
Elliott wins, JJ wins, Byron wins, but Bowman doesn't
Logano to the final 4

I have a feeling the 48 team will go winless or only win 1 race all season. For some reason I think the Knaus/Johnson pairing has milked everything it's worth and Knaus decides to retire.

Is there any chance his political yes men can go with him and the people running the show can actually take the time to think things through instead of knee-jerk reactions?
 
I have a feeling the 48 team will go winless or only win 1 race all season. For some reason I think the Knaus/Johnson pairing has milked everything it's worth and Knaus decides to retire.

They could go winless for another 10 years and still be the most dominant crew chef/driver combo ever. What they've done in this sport the past 15 years has been incredible.
 
I’ll take a stab at it:
  • ROY: William Byron. I think he’ll be close to winning a race too, but it’ll be close with Bubba Wallace, a bit closer than people think.
  • Driver/team due for biggest letdown: Gotta go with Denny and the 11 bunch as I think KDB will be contending for the Cup all year long and will win his fair share of races. I think the 20 with Erik Jones will win multiple times and the 19 will be much improved,don’t think he’ll win one but Suarez will run top 12 all year. Denny might be odd man out this year.
  • Biggest Surprise: RCR and the 3 with Austin Dillon as I think he’ll win 2-3 times and make the final 8. I just think they’ll take to the new Camaro well, their engines are already fast and Andy Petree is going to help the organization as a whole.
  • MTJ, Cole Pearn and the 78 will still be tough but their championship repeat bid ends in the Round of 8. Think they will win 4-5 races for the year.
  • Chase Elliott wins 4 races and leads Hendrick(s) Motorsports in wins, with 7 time right behind with 3. I think Byron wins MAYBE one(fuel mileage or plate track) and Bowman at zero.
  • Biggest Comeback Year: even with a down Ford, Joey Logano makes the Final Four and wins 3-4 times with much better consistency.
  • Kevin Harvick leads the SHR effort with a Final Four Berth and 3-5 wins. He will find a way to will that underpowered Ford to wins and consistency needed.
  • Stenhouse wins a plate race and Bayne doesn’t last the year in the 6 Car. Maybe an old Rouse friend finishes the year in that car waiting for Ty Majeski to develop.
  • I almost went with Larson as my biggest letdown this year but I feel worse about Denny’s upcoming year. I think Larson wins 1-2 races, out in the Round Of 12 and maybe maybe looks for a change of scenery in 2019. Last year ended pretty badly for the 42 guys and I think you just can’t forget about that.
  • Playoff drivers: KDB(6 wins) MTJ(4 wins)Elliott(4 wins) Logano(3 wins) JJ( 3 wins) Harvick(3 wins) Jones(2 wins) Dillon(2 wins) Blaney(1 wins ) Keselowski (1 wins) Larson(1 win) Stenhouse( 1 win) Kurt Busch (1 win) Byron(wins All Star Race) Newman, Saurez

Toyota comes out strong as Chevy tries to figure out the new car.
Chevy doesn't get a win until after at least 7 races.

This is the last year for, McMurray and Kurt Busch.
Harvick, JJ, Newman, retire after 2019. Bowyer can't find sponsors and is forced out.

Carl Edwards, Harvick, Kurt Busch, and Ryan Newman all return in 2020 with Dodge. Just kidding. (Harvick because he looks like one of the Dodge brothers from the tv commercials.)

Denny Hamlin wins the Daytona 500 and nothing else for the rest of the year.

Larson and McMurray both have "mysterious" engine issues the third race of the first round of playoffs.

I like all the things you said and the only spot I would be 100% different would be with the Taurus as I think Ford will kill the Taurus and GM will kill the Impala.
 
Nascar is not dying and I say again that Nascar is not dying.

Nascar and the tracks are good with TV money but the teams won't be as well off. Race wins for Byron & Elliott but none for Jones or Suarez. Putting Bowman in the 88 and keeping Bowyer 14 will look bad and despite good vibes from everyone Bubba Wallace won't get results. Some fans will say Nascar is dying and other fans will say that everything is fine and Nascar is in better shape then ever.

Erik Jones, William Byron and Bubba Wallace all score wins.

Kevin Harvick announces retirement, joins Fox Sports.

Kasey Kahne has a strong season, wins a race and ends up replacing Harvick.

Denny Hamlin is ousted to make room for Christopher Bell.

Toyota dominates.

Charlotte "Roval" race becomes a one-and-done deal.

Chase Elliott has late season surge, winning two of three races in the Round of 12 and Round of 8, but falls short to Kyle Busch for the championship in Miami.

Yeah, I’m thinking we’ve entered the final seasons for trucks, and the last year anyone with a full time cup ride can ride around in a xfinity car.

I don't think so. I think it'll be more along the lines of returning to their roots and they announce Truck Series races at Kern County, Memphis, the Las Vegas Bullring and some others.
 
Pretty substantial cut in expenses because of the spec motor in the truck series this year. It allows the little guy to be able to run all three brands of used trucks they can pick up pretty cheaply if they choose to go that route. Should be interesting to see if more teams try the series this year or some of the back markers are more competitive.
 
I gotta say that the X and truck series turned me off a longtime ago as it just wasn't fun like it used to be for me. Maybe the racing is good and I don't know what I am missing and I changed and not the 2 series. I don't know how the 2 series are doing money wise but it doesn't look like the fans come out to see the races live. I don't know if they do well or not with TV money.

Off topic some but I think it would be real good to see the X guys use hand me down cup cars so the drivers would get a feel for what they may be driving later on. I'm thinking the trucks could be lotsa fun if they could go to IRP, Winchester, Nashville and places like that.

I gotta say that the X and truck series turned me off a longtime ago as it just wasn't fun like it used to be for me. Maybe the racing is good and I don't know what I am missing and I changed and not the 2 series. I don't know how the 2 series are doing money wise but it doesn't look like the fans come out to see the races live. I don't know if they do well or not with TV money.

Kyle Busch wins every road course race.

Bowman and Elliott go winless and Byron wins the most races for Hendrick.

Bubba Wallace wins a race before Will Byron but Byron wins ROTY.

Penske drivers complain some more about their cars not being up to par with Toyota and now Chevy.

I have an odd feeling Bubba will win Watkins Glen on fuel mileage. I made this prediction back about a week after Homestead and I'm not backing down.

Gosh I’m so hoping Willy B wins during the NBC portion of the schedule.

I know the trucks would do better if they aired races in Canada.. but since they stopped I really couldn't care less about that series. Sucks because I really liked watching those races.

Another point.. and it does kind of suck for the Xfinity series but the cup guys bring the viewers... I know personally if Joey is in the race I try to make a point of watching it, if not I don't mind missing it.
The truck races were streamed last year. If I find it this year I will post it.

1. Mopar fans finally get the news we have waited six years for when FCA announces a return to Cup and Trucks. Because they never really left Xfinity.
 
TSN has the monopoly on Nascar TV rights and they are the ones who won't show it
