2019 Auto Club Speedway --Auto Club 400 -- Pre-Race Thread

I don't get why they ever got rid of single car qualifying anyway.

Single Car Qualifying is:

Simple
Uncomplicated
More Merit Based
Entertaining from both a technical pursuit as well as a sporting contest Time Trial
Not Goofy

AND does not require additional rules to get drivers and their teams to produce on-track drama desired by NASCAR (as NASCAR attempts to chase the Drivers off of Pit Road and onto the track).

Perhaps the TRL Hybrid Qual is the best compromise...

===

NASCAR's convoluted approach to get more action into the Qualifying, actually puts less action on the track and more drama in the pits.

Teams are incentivized to "race" to the back, not the front -- in order to get the best lap time. Because it is drafting dependent -- those that finish ahead of other cars or go it alone are at a disadvantage.

The amateurish fits-and-starts antics on Pit Road is an embarrassment to Motorsports...

I hope NASCAR does not change a thing that Q session was the most fun I ever had
watching Q. Confusion in the booth to the point of being speechless, drivers confused
& p'd off, NASCAR playing CYA, everybody here with their shorts in a wad.
Everything is GREAT!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Reminded me of a highschool basketball game, no shot clock, defense is in a zone, guard on offense stands just past half court and stands there with the ball running out the time

I have a question for all you arm chair crew chiefs.

Lets say your car was qualified in the top six. You all would have been on the radio screaming go? You would have taken the chance on leading the Draft and losing a top six pit choice?
Right I am sure all of you would have risked your up front spot.
And before you say it why would someone in the back go when they would be leading the Draft and still start in rear of the Top 12.
C'mon Spotter 22 you spotted for a cup team. You mean to tell that you would have been on the radio telling your driver to go no matter what even if it meant leading the draft. Right I don't think so. Again tell your idea to Jimmy Spencer and guess his reaction.
I wouldnt tell him to go, I'm not the Crew Chief. I would give information that we had gathered during the first practice like the drop dead time to make it back to the line, after that I'm waiting like the driver. What possible reason did 10th,11th and 12th have for sitting back? They really have nothing to lose, they still stay in the top 12, but they have everything to gain with track position. If they wanted to sit, why even go out at all? They were running all over each other trying to get out to make it, piss poor management all the way around.

I just watched my DVR recording of qualifying....

Wtf was that?

The only good thing was watching Rowdy’s perfect positioning and passing Suarez.

I always wanted to see how dirt cars would race on a snow covered track.

Unless they used spikes it would be air hockey.

It seems like everyone was waiting on the 3 and the 3 knew they had pole if no one decided to go.

NASCAR needs to create rules to prevent this from happening. How about a 2 minute warning where everyone needs to leave when the clock gets there? It isnt that difficult.
The last thing they need is more rules. They need to get back to basics and throw all the gimmicks into the dustbin of history.

Watching practice they just talked about "strobe-stripping" the wall to make it look like they are going faster than they really are. That rates right up there with painting the seats to look like they are filled when they aren't.

Sounds like the Santa Ana’s are hitting...

“WIND ADVISORY REMAINS IN EFFECT UNTIL 1 PM PDT THIS
AFTERNOON ...

* Winds ...Areas of northeast winds 20 to 30 mph with gusts 45 mph. Isolated gusts to 55 mph, mainly in San Diego County.

* Timing ...The winds will become more widespread and stronger after sunrise, then weaken during the afternoon.

* Location ...Along and near the coastal slopes of the mountains and below passes and canyons with the strongest gusts in the Inland Empire below the Cajon and San Gorgonio Passes.”

...NASCAR wanted to slow the cars down, and now wants them to go slower but look faster?

What a joke. Do they think the fans at the track will fall for the illusion?

ya mean somebody actually takes what Mikey says seriously. :D:p

If they did the Daytona style qualifying of having everybody take 1 lap, then take the top 12 and they do 1 lap. Single car qualifying but still parts of the "knockout qualifying" with the top 12 being able to get another lap in.
