2019 Clash RACE thread

Reading these comments and getting ready to deal with all this nonsense this year

Place went from fun, to kinda fun, to a complete lack of mature moderation which has lead to the same 4 people going at each other’s throats in every thread. Nobody wants to be here for that.

Jimmie got a run. Menard came down to block. The air disturbed Menards car enough to turn him. It was a racing incident. Get over it.
Have it your way, I see it as Jimmie cut it too close and turned Menard, not on purpose, but don't blame Menard. You are the one that needs to get over it. Jimmie won, no one needs to apologize for him, he did the apologizing himself'

I agree. This place is as brutal as I have seen it since I have been here. I love this sport. Nobody liked what they saw today, but it wasn't as bad as portrayed here. This place has lost its grip on why it even exists.

So, he has some sort of influence over the sanctioning body because he’s a TV analyst? That’s a stupid statement.

No, he is reporting on what goes on in the race and in NASCAR, and he has a personal financial interest in one of the teams. That is completely wrong to me. The same goes for Dale Jr. Look, I'm a HMS guy, probably the biggest one here, but how many announcers do the networks need that have their lips glued to Rick's ass? Jeff, Dale, Darrell, Letarte........

Jr has his lips glued to Rick’s ass, NBC has their lips glued to Jr’s ass....NASCAR has their own version of The Human Centipede. :p

Hadn’t thought about all them. Kez said it last year or year before when JG made a call supporting an HMS driver vs Kez. Didn’t seem to catch as much traction then....

“It’s called THE TRASH for a reason.” Feel free to use that in the marketing, for truth in advertising.

This whole Daytona festival of meaningless racing to start the year has outlived its appeal.

It should be showcasing the new season and rules in the top three series — instead it is stale and uninspired.

I liked watching the Busch Clash and the Twin 125’s way back when. I stopped watching the clash when they started screwing around with the rules. I stopped watching the twins when the entry list dropped and made them irrelevant.

Well Brad has a chip on his shoulder about HMS the size of a boulder, but regardless, the fact is, the question will always be there as to whether these guys are being as honest and straight up about their reporting as they should be.

Didn't make is less relevant or true...

Are you talking about the time when Brad's jackman slammed his body into the side of the car to flare it out in front of the quarter panel? And Jeff pointed it out, and Brad started crying?

I've always thought what the hell difference does it make about Gordon's affiliation good or bad and announcing the race? It has absolutely no bearing on the outcome of the race. The MRN radio coverage tile can be picked you guys that are so upset have options..this year it is predominately displayed on the Nascar website hooks up really quick when I tried it. A commercial was on and I should have stayed tuned to see if it was synced with TV coverage..if it isn't that needs to be fixed come screaming Gerbil time.

I'm agreeing with YOU dude! All I'm saying that Brad never misses an opportunity to get in a dig at HMS, but that doesn't change the fact that he has a right to be suspicious of what announcers who are on the payroll of a competitor say.

pour me what Mrs Foreman is having. In the last day alone we've had whatever it is that this has turned into, and our first 2019 Attendance Thread and there hasnt even been a points paying race yet.

It has NOTHING to do with NASCAR, or the outcome of the race, it's all about credibility. Do YOU 100% trust Jeff Gordon, Dale Earnhardt Jr, Darrell Waltrip or Steve Letarte to give you an honest analysis of matters that may be unflattering of Rick Hendrick or other HMS employees, or to take a totally neutral stance in the event of a disagreement between HMS and another team or with NASCAR?

are you guys really that naive to think any of them in the booth are credible in that way? Ya think any of the X drivers, crew chiefs, and anybody that has been around the sport getting paid with a mic is going to trash the sport so you can feel good? if you can't make your own decisions watching unpteen replays or do you guys think those are doctored too or something. :D

In broadcasting and several other fields you not only want to avoid any impropriety but it is also important to avoid the appearance of any impropriety. In football you can’t have a broadcaster that also functions as a scout for a team or in hockey you can’t have an analyst that is a representive of a group of players.

For whatever reason NASCAR’s broadcasters have never had a problem hiring people that could easily have a conflict of interest.

I'm not asking them to trash the sport, I'm asking them to be 100% honest about what they see and what they think is going on, even if it hurts somebody's feelings.

He ain't talking about you. Sorry he called you that, wasn't necessary, but he's aggravated about trying to post usefully amongst the troll blabber about attendance this and ratings that. You may be insane ;), but you are not a troll.
I love that @Revman is insane... insane for racing!

Eh Kyle Petty talks loud, plenty of discussion on the race programs, there will be plenty today, but pretty non existent in the race announcers or the race crew that works the pits, they are there to announce the race, they have no bearing on how the race turns out, the officials do calling of the penalties, the monkeys in the trailer scan the pits for any little thing and the fans get to see unpteen looks at replays to call Jeff out for being a commie traitor and an obvious undercover mole for the all powerful Hendrick racing group. I hear there is a movement under way to zip up Jeff's mouth whenever a Hendrick car is involved in a wreck or any other unsportsman like behavior.

You are missing the point entirely! It isn’t that fans can see and make determinations themselves. It is that the announcer may be consciously or unconsciously biased and therefore giving erroneous opinion.

You could make a case that Nascar is a hybrid between entertainment and sports so it doesn’t matter. However if Nascar wants to be seen as a sport the broadcasters with irons in other Nascar fires have to go.

they aren't going anywhere. In fact more than ever will be broadcasting this year, for races Harvick will co announce most of the Xfinity races this year as his schedule allows. If you have been following the off season hires, Many are going to be on the sports shows in the evenings, Craven and McMurray for starters.

Honestly, my expectations are not to high for the "Clash". It's a sprint for cash. Hard to figure out who's got what in a race that short. My guess is the Twin 125s will be far more telling. The crowd size at the Clash is not remotely relevant, especially with the threat of rain. I'm hoping for twin barn burners Thursday. I'm ready for some racing. Local level too.

A common theme was that it was very difficult to pass and fans were worried the twins and the 500 would suffer from the same thing. Do you think it was hard to pass and if do you think this will also be true for twins and 500?

But not to comment on it, prolifically.

I didn't watch the race either, and bizarrely, haven't posted about its quality.

A splendid example for others. If I didn't watch an event, I'd probably not comment on it either. And I wouldn't comment for the sole purpose of stirring things up. Some people don't have a life.
