Good thing the timing is off by 2 weeks. Imagine if I'd flown up to Fontana to have my ticket cancelled.
Well this just flat out sucks. Now comes the pain of getting my money back from the hotel I booked.
Well, well, well...left bright and early this morning for Atlanta got 6 hours into my roadtrip and my son calls to tell me what is happening. Made a u-turn. Looks like I am out $150 for gas and one night hotel that I couldn't cancel. On the bright side I would have spent about $700, so I guess NASCAR saved me $550. :)

And geesh, I live only two hours from Homestead. :(

Have you tried contacting the hotel?

Jamie Little tweeted she was going to Atlanta. I doubt she is going there to sit on her hands but will be in the pits doing her thing as usual,

Leave it to nascar to announce their running yesterday, then wait for all the teams and tv people to come to the track to then promptly turn around and cancel. This is why nobody likes this sport and why nobody respects the decision makers.

It's never too late to do the right thing.

DAYTONA BEACH, Fla. (March 13, 2020) – "NASCAR has decided to postpone the race events at Atlanta Motor Speedway this weekend and Homestead-Miami Speedway next weekend. We believe this decision is in the best interest of the safety and well-being of our fans, competitors, officials and everyone associated with our sport. We will continue to monitor this dynamic situation as we assess future race events."

Or you know a fluid situation with constantly changing variables. But sure just bash NASCAR cause you have nothing better to do then beat a dead horse all the time.

might be a good discussion topic along with will they reschedule and when could that be. :idunno:

I think a lot depends on how many races are postponed. If there's a few (3-5) i wouldn't mind seeing a summer blowout with a few weekday races. If the world doesn't end people will be so rabid for their diversions I think getting out of your house and enjoying things together will be a huge hit. With that said, that doesn't mean I'd want a bunch of weekday races next year because the dynamics will be completely different. But one or maybe two perhaps wouldn't hurt if they would indeed be a hit....

It's just such a fluid situation there's no real way to speculate. With that understanding, reworking the NASCAR schedule seems on the surface easier than golf because it's only one association. Golf is like the old open wheel days with USAC and CART except there's four different governing bodies/tournament hosts who operate the events. With that said, everyone comes together and does an excellent job unlike in IndyCar in the late 70's, 80's and 90's.

I really trust the leadership in this situation. I think NASCAR will get it right. Just like I think Golf will get it right. There's no doubt the decision making in NASCAR, including from the tv networks, has improved greatly over the last year. I'm certain there will be "some" changes in 2021 but overall history and identity will be preserved.
