2022 Silly Season

Hooters sponsoring Elliott for three more years thru 2024 is pretty impressive. I wonder how much they had to pay for the 3 big money races. The first race at WWT raceway and the others in the playoffs.

In 2022, the No. 9 Hooters Chevrolet Camaro ZL1 will appear June 5 at World Wide Technology Raceway and in the NASCAR Cup Series playoff races at Bristol Motor Speedway on Sept. 17 and Las Vegas Motor Speedway on Oct. 16.
I guess I just have a mental block with WWT. Never can remember where that track is. Wished they would have incorporated a geographic location in the name.
Geesh, Hooters sponsorship should go to Blaney. His girlfriend is Miss Hooters International and his dad had a number of fan club meetings at the Daytona Hooters.

It's on the other side of the river from St Louis. It's in an industrial type area.

No matter if you call it California speedway or Fontana, there is more parking available now because they decided to close the drag strip for good. It had already been closed since the pandemic started. They didn't have national events there but it was a good place for the kids to race their hot rods.

Cassill to the 10 car. He will be paid in different cryptocurrencies noted. As someone who dabbles in stock and crypto investments... This is pretty cool.

“Some of our partners before have been just investors, and a lot of times, it didn’t work. We wanted to work with somebody that knew about racing, wanted to race, wanted to be a winner and wanted to spend the money in the right place.”

-- Richard Petty (Nov. 7, 2021)

I told myself two days ago to just let it slide. After all, I've been a fan of Richard Petty and the prodigious accomplishments of Petty Enterprises for more than 60 years. But I have decided that someone needs to call out the King of Nascar for these comments, which are obviously directed at former partner Andrew Murstein.

Mr. Petty, you are well aware that it's been a rough patch for at least a dozen years for Nascar team owners, particularly those teams with an established track record of mediocre performance. And that's where *you* put your team, solidly in the third tier of cup teams... under-performing on the track and under-performing in selling sponsorship. You've been down there in the basement for 30-some years now... since long before Murstein was around.

It's unseemly to trash your partner - the only partner you could find to help save a Petty-branded team in the aftermath of the Gillette ownership debacle - for not having deep enough pockets. You are conveniently overlooking your own contribution to the difficult situation. These comments add nothing; they did not need to be said. It seems that you didn't learn your lesson from the backlash following your ungrateful and mean-spirited comments about Smithfield when they finally decided the only way to upgrade their on track performance was to leave your team when the contract expired.

I'll remain a Petty fan, and I'll pull for the 43 and 42 to have success on track, but I'm not happy about the way you end relationships. The King of Nascar should be able to find the high road when long-standing mutually-beneficial business relationships wind down.

Richard is and has been a figure head for the team for many years, not much more than that. I don't know how much input he's had with the organization for some time. I'm sure he feels like the last group didn't put a lot of effort into their operations to make things successful. Remember, there are a lot of check collectors in the sport.

Yep two sides. Like Petty said, Gallagher is all in when it comes to racing in Nascar, Murstein who? On the other hand, Petty's team falling from grace it's all on Petty, but lately, with Almirola, Bubba, and now Jones they have been picking some pretty good shoes to drive the car. I think Gallagher will give them a boost

I didn’t see Petty trashing Murstein? It seemed like he wanted to pimp Medallion Financial & didn’t seem to put any money into being more competitive?

Seemed like truth to me. Is it mutually beneficial when Murstein owes him 7 mil. 🤷‍♂️

On the other hand, Petty could have come with the deal so to say. Gallagher was going cup racing and charters are hard to come by, so part of the deal to get a couple of charters was to include Petty and Gallagher was ok with it.

Exactly, Richard hasn't actually had control of a team with Petty in the name since Petty Enterprises folded into Gillett-Evernham.

I'm very excited Landon has finally landed a ride with a competitive team. Looking at the full-time Xfinity rides announced so far he should definitely be a candidate for the final 4.
And he is the one who signed the contract so it's not gonna be my fault if he ends up without any money.

Murstein who? ... I think Gallagher will give them a boost
I also think Gallagher will give the team a boost. But what's the point of trashing Murstein on his way out of the team? Murstein lasted longer than a lot of owners of third-rate mediocre teams. Murstein provided crucial support that kept the team going, and without that, Maury Gallagher would not be buying this particular team because it would no longer exist... the Petty name would no longer be in Nascar.

Murstein and Petty joined forces to keep the Petty team going after the Gillette-Evernham collapse. Both had skin in the game. Murstein had equity capital, Petty provided debt financing. Murstein had the controlling interest, but Petty also had significant involvement... if you believe the descriptions shared by Bubba Wallace.

Both parties were crucial to the team surviving; both could have done a better job, could have won races and championships, could have sold millions in sponsorships, but they didn't. The obstacles would have been smaller if Petty alone had not run the team into the ground before he sold off the carcass. So, I just don't see the point of trashing Murstein as he heads for the exit ramp.

[P.S. -- @AuzGrams, Murstein does not owe any money to Petty. The race team owes ~$8 million to Petty but the guarantor on that is now Gallagher, not Murstein. And did you also like it when Petty trashed Smithfield when they moved their support to SHR a few years ago?]

I don’t care either way, just a rich man gentlemen’s club & Richard has been milking his name for years. I like Kyle more than Richard these days. The move back to the 42 was cool at least.

So telling the truth is trashing these days? Widely publicized that Murstein was trying to sell the team, Petty didn't say anything that was new. So Petty saying he is excited to have a partner that is a racer instead of an investor is trashing? Petty has never been a diplomat, he tells it like he sees it.

BTW who thinks the Fenway/Roush partnership is a good one? Not me.

Fenway bought into winning team, took his profit and financially ran the team into the ground. JMO

Murstein still wants to be involved in the sport, I feel as if he would be good for a smaller team. Murstein did well, especially post Smithfield.

Murstein said from the outset of him getting involved into the sport that he is an investor.

Same with Fenway and Roush, Fenway has Roush as an asset at the end of the day. If they did not see fit in keeping Roush, they would have sold their share of the team. Keselowski in the mix will add a pretty heady driver and owner, so they will improve over time.

Gallagher has a lot more funds to play with and will be more hands on as an owner. Which is what Petty wants, so this partnership will pay off in the long run.

@LewTheShoe thank you for correcting me on thst misinformstion as well, I apologize for that.

That's a Cup car in the picture. He ran a few Xfinity races for MBM last season.
Yes, it's a Next Gen Cup car. One of the ones that nobody has yet, except for the now defunct Starcom outfit which has 3 or 4 in various states of undress.

Boris finished 31st at Cota and was a DNQ at Elkhart Lake last season. Prior to that he hadn't run a B Main since 2015.

car shortage twitter conspiracies abound.
I couldn't find any info besides the picture on how many races Boris was going to run this year. Could be they are trying to round up more sponsorships. I hope.

It's not a twitter conspiracy, you can listen to Harvick start talking at the 54 minute mark of his interview of with Dale Jr and he says his team right now has one car and then goes on about how teams will have to manage the first quarter of the season to preserve the small amount of equipment that they'll have in their fleet. He literally says by Daytona they'll have two cars. Each team is supposed to have seven.

I'm not going solely by what he's saying, but he matched what I already know, and obviously figures like himself and Penske can't flatout start a public panic about the situation because that wouldn't represent the sport in a good light, but you're starting to hear their concerns bubbling to the surface a bit and you'll see that continue as we inch closer to the Clash.

I hope his contract includes a minimum exchange rate.
He might not have much of a contract length if he doesn't produce for Kaulig I have a feeling. Who knows, we may have another Matty D on our hands in a couple of years. The excuses for a bad ride have about run out on Cassill. It's sink or swim

He has never had a top ride save his tenure ar JR Motorsports when he was 18. In fact he hasn't even had a competitive ride. Well see what happens but she should be competitive.
