I'm gonna try. Might go to 2 Bristol races next year AND a North Wilkesboro race. I'm going to Wilkesboro this year too. Money put where mouth is.
 
I'm glad the dirt race at Bristol is gone. I've advocated Bristol should have 2 dates because its a damn cool place to race at and catch a race at as a fan. If you're upset about spring time attendance, dont watch it. I think the PGA Tour has a date that day, catch the highlights of the Cup race then. The whole attendance argument has always been amusing to me, I dont get why fans let that bother them. Just watch and enjoy what is going on in front of you on the track.

I had no problem with the rest of the post. I commented on what wasn't true. Notice I highlighted it? The stands are a ghost town, ratings with races called off, rain delays etc have been terrible.
 
Bristol deserves to be accommodated if the weather's consistently a problem. Late April/early May seems about right for a mid-afternoon race in northeast Tennessee. Talladega can be moved up to late March/early April.

Yes I noticed, which is why I said you stopped reading after the bold (highlighted) part.

So you're basically saying it's false that Bristol is a fan favorite? If you polled the fans, where do you think it would rank compared to other tracks?

Every year of Bristol dirt has also been rain-affected in some manner.

Both races got postponed to Monday in 2021. Last year’s Cup race was rain-delayed mid-race. This year Friday was wiped out entirely.

Last years race ran the same day, this year the cup race ran as scheduled.
 
The Fan Council is mostly useless but they did have an interesting survey after Bristol. Asked what was preferable for events at Bristol - only concrete, only dirt, or one of each. Which series should be racing on dirt, and an open question on what dirt tracks would you like to see. I put down a few since I’d like to see Truck keep it up and Xfinity try it out. Seems like they’re reevaluating the whole concept.

That wasn't my take on the survey. That isn't surprising though.

I’m pretty positive 75 minutes of rain at the very least hindered the TV audience. IIRC, the audience peaked towards the end of stage 2, which is when the delays started. For pretty much every race the audience naturally peaks in the last quarter hour. The race didn’t finish until after 11:30 PM ET.

They got the race in, it wasn't called and moved to Monday which would have been a disaster, they averaged 4 million people, kept their venue audience. Sorry, that's a win in my book.
 
Throw some dirt on Bristol dirt. Good riddance.

I'm sure having the best dirt racer in the world (and others) openly trashing it leading up to the race didn't exactly boost their desire to continue on. Like the L.A. clash, the novelty wore off quickly.

I saw some folks talking about it earlier today on Reddit people I follow on there who usually get this stuff right, it was under a TV ratings thread. I'll try to find it, but I may have egg on my face and maybe spoke too soon as there is no official announcement from anyone official as of yet.

There may not be. The track will just be on the 2024 schedule with no mention of surface.

Well dirt Bristol COULD be back on the schedule but with the way Marcus didnt commit to it, the drivers slaughtering the idea of it and the scuttlebutt on social media would lead you otherwise.

I think people tend to be dwawn to a couple of the whiners. Larson was nuts. He went from crapping on it the pre race to all smiles after the race. There were plenty of smiles and racing tales afterwards. Most drivers enjoyed the hell out of it. I posted some of the drivers on the Bristol race thread. I have no proof, but I think Nascar is going to keep at least one dirt race to show off the versitility of the new car and to distance themselves from the other series that can't race in the dirt although Indycars/USAC came from dirt and raced both back in the day.

Well I agreed alot of with what those drivers said, especially JD with what he said about the cars not being right for that type of racing. Saying that I wouldn’t be opposed to a regular Cup dirt race on the schedule, the fans enjoy it and the drivers it gets them out of their comfort zone. I was just opposed to the idea of doing it at Bristol, hated losing a race on concrete there. If they race it a regular dirt track…I could go either way. I’ll tune in and if turns out to not be my cup of tea, I’ll just have it on in the background and let others enjoy. The good thing about not enjoying a particular track or race is that there is always another one next week!
 
You all arguing about dirt….. and the possibility of Pocono becoming a huge weed farm slipped through the cracks here! The Pocono 420 at Pocono Raceway

I watched my first dirt race in 64 and a typical late model example was a 64 Chevelle with all the windows and lights gone and the wheel wells radiused, so cars not being right for dirt goes right over my head. I look at these twisted messes that look like they were designed using a pair of scissors and a deck of cards.

I’ve never actually been to a dirt race yet. Been meaning to make it out to a WoO race but I need to try harder.
 
If Nashville and/or Wilkesboro get a permanent Cup date I can't see the Bristol spring race remain on the schedule.
The three short tracks that are currently on the schedule are all in the same region, Nashville and Wilkesboro would mean two more races in that area.

That's been all but confirmed to be the plan. Heck SMI might have confirmed it, not 100% sure.

Yes, because even more frequent intoxication is the answer to EVERYTHING. And just to be clear, Indiana (Thank God) will likely be the last state to legalize it.

There's not a lot of difference in the weather at Talladega and Bristol that time of the year.
 
I'm not sure moving the spring date would help Bristol. SMI has probably had that option to put one of their other tracks in that slot and they haven't. Maybe it they go back to pavement the wet tire could help at least to keep the date happening on the same day. The dirt has shown to be an improvement because it doesn't take as long to get the track in shape, on the other hand, the wets might be able to do the same thing to the pavement if Nascar approved the wets at Bristol.
 
DBC talked about it extensively this week. That early in the spring is bad for that area anyway, but Easter is an absolute attendance killer, especially in the south. If NASCAR would stop trying to race 52 weeks a year, a lot of these tracks wouldn't get stuck with such crappy dates.
