2024 Next Gen Car

Throwing more horsepower at what some think is a problem is not that simple. It's a fine line between making them too hard to drive which leads to a little passing single file racing clean air fest type racing, and being able to have decent passing and side by side racing with the fast cars being able to come from the rear to the front. I have no problem with Nascar sneaking up on it instead of taking the blunderbuss route. Leaving the most important factor aero out of the equation where more gains than horsepower when at speed occur leaves out a lot of a complicated number of factors.

For the record, a lot of the mid 2000s-mid 2010s California and Michigan races that were considered pretty tame are becoming "cult classics" when talent in the series was at its peak and the cars were entering the turns at 205mph+. I think the fan base is slowly turning towards wanting more speed and driver skill than needing close side-by-side racing

That is a matter of opinion not supported by the numbers. Seems like they tried a different package every year for awhile to try to improve the numbers at Michigan. high HP high D/F, high HP low D/f force, aero this and that. So bad at California it isn't there anymore.

Considering all of the caution complaining that you do whenever Nascar has one, I wouldn't think that would be something to worry about. They seldom would stay out on old tires.
Besides most of them choose as a strategy to ride around on plate tracks until fairly late in the last stage before making their moves unless a small group get sparky and start pushing and shoving to get to the front earlier than all bets are off.

Many of you want stage cautions removed to END the drastic fuel saving racing at superspeedways.
@BoziTatarevic
says the engineers are too smart for that.

For the record, I want them removed from ALL races. My desire has nothing to do with fuel saving at superspeedways, since we all know I'd like pack racing to go away too.

And I want a golden ticket, and a chocolate river, and an Oompa-Loompa, and a goose that lays golden eggs, and I want them now, Daddy, NOW!

And then you will get to complain about the races being covered up by full screen commercials and all the "while we were away".

You've mistaken me for other RF members. I'm the one who used to post about how much yard work I was getting done in 2.5 minute bursts, remember? I'm the one who has always acknowledged that the bills have to be paid. I'm still grateful we get live, complete coverage of every race, not an edited two hours on Wide World three weeks later.

One of these days you will figure it out you can't have it both ways. You either get while we were away starring Jacques debris, or maddeningly long stage cautions for commercials.

I've never objected to what was missed during full screen ads. I have always understood the trade-offs, including the effects on strategies. I get that you don't agree with my preference but it HAS been my preference since the first season with scheduled cautions.

It is all a matter of opinion of what is good and what isn't (some make more sense than other's, which is why nascar should be consulting with legends veterans stars of the sport before the suits go off and do their own thing without an understanding of what it means to the nascar fan and driver's, they seem to now be doing this).

Those that found Michigan and Auto Club to be boring lacked the appreciation for seeing speed on track over 200+mph, that has been drastically reduced in recent years to attempt to artificially create side by side at the expense of watching a high drag car with aero challenges due to be being underpowered in combo with other factors, this attempt first started with the 550 package before even Next-Gen car, it may have resonated with many casual fans yet grew tiresome much as did the playoffs. The quality of racing at Fontana and the attendance numbers were not why it no longer remains, it was only one race on the schedule as one of the longest high tire wear multi-groove big tracks on the circuit, truly unique to the schedule, the real estate value of the expansive property became too valuable and had them seeing dollar signs so they cashed out.

... we refer to it often as whoever the entitlement sponsor is.
I don't care what bodies they use but NASCAR really wants this series to have its own identity, give it a name independent of the sponsorship. Many would prefer reverting to 'Grand National' but settle on something, please.

How about letting the OEM's shell out ALL of the money, a full boat ride and hold some exhibition races all on their dime. Call it the SUV nationals. Let's see what kind of crowd that would draw.

From a post in the Kansas pre-race thread...
Hocevar Qualified P 6 with a team that isn't hooked to the golden OEM pipeline that Hendrick and RCR have access to. The Hurricane is is making it happen, it's just a matter of when (he gets his first Cup win).
I agree with the conclusion that Carson Hocevar is a solid bet to be the next cup driver to get his first race victory. The guy is a bit goofy at times, but very impressive, IMO.

My question is about this "golden OEM pipeline" that supposedly provides GM support to HMS and RCR that other Chevrolet teams don't get. What's in this pipeline that benefits those top tier teams, other than purely financial support? I know that GM provides R&D support on engines to HMS and ECI, but the engines these two shops build are available to other Chevy teams. I absolutely do not believe that HMS builds special motors for the Hendrick cars, and supplies other, lower performance motors to customer teams.

And same thing for the bodies. GM developed the new 2026 body, and supplies the exact same identical body parts to all teams.

I guess there is a data flow... wind tunnel data, CFD data, race day data analysis. Does anyone know if this is what's flowing to HMS, but not to Spire, via the "golden pipeline? But Spire has a comprehensive technical alliance with HMS. Don't they get the benefit of the data through this alliance? Because HMS is providing all details of the Spire setups.

I believe HMS generally has advantages over their alliance partners in pit crew, in crew chiefs and race engineers making strategy calls and adjustments on the fly, and in drivers. That's it, I believe (in the next gen era). Would appreciate any insights the forum can provide.

Golden pipeline. Hendrick and Childress jointly developed and continue to develop the Chevy engine and Chevy supplies the engines, engineering and factory resources. Everybody else is limited in those areas including factory support. The pipeline gets more Sim time, faster updates from factory sim teams, aero input data from the factory.

Call BS on that, says they are considering that option. They can't be that stupid to change to that body style. But then again....
NASCAR wants all the cars under the NASCAR banner to be Next Gen type cars. They will never convince me NASCAR doesn't get a cut of every single part. They want/demand control. At some point the engines/drivetrain will be a spec part. Again...owned by NASCAR.

What party would you say the large majority of "NASCAR" votes for? There's a reason they gravitate to that party. Absolute control of everything. Choice is a dirty word.

What part of the Chevy engine does GM provide/build?

A I says the block & heads are supplied as semi-finished parts. I wonder if they are actually cast by one of the usual racing block manufacturers like World Products comes to mind. Let me see who casts the Illimor for the trucks if can find it.

GM NASCAR engine blocks are cast at the Saginaw Metal Casting Operations in Saginaw, Michigan. This facility is known for producing the engine block and cylinder heads used in various Chevrolet engines, including those utilized in NASCAR racing

If you looked at the Youtube that I posted about Cleetus touring Childress's shop, they have an electron microscope than can scan parts and pieces at the molecular level..dust free controlled environment stuff. That's only part of what they have in the engine shop.

As I said after Kansas, it isn't illegal if Nascar allows it and I believe the same thing is happening today except they are letting it go. Nobodies car went back to R&D after Kansas.

I don't follow Cletus as he's an anti-vaxxer MAGA dufas. Aligning with Childress is the perfect fit. Bird of a feather.

Eh Michigan was pretty rough there for awhile. They were going a hell of a lot faster than 205 though, it was more like 215-220 after the repave. Apparently there was a tire test where someone hit 230. Jeff Gordon had a 206.558 qualifying lap at the Pure Michigan 400 in 2014.

Here’s the thing though, speeds were so damn high that turbulence was unbelievable trailing another car. Also with that level of speed you could really only run one line.

I’m very happy with where it is, to see MIS as arguably the best track on the circuit is just awesome.

Yup, I wouldn’t mind visiting there sometime. Was doing a supplier audit at a fineblanker up that way and wanted to swing by
