2024 Rolex 24 at DAYTONA

I'm guessing the GTPs ran their predicted 'next to last' lap slower than anticipated due to traffic, and the clock expired before they reached the stripe.

Would have loved seeing Cadilac win it but I don't think another lap would have helped. Nasir was slowly gapping him.

Nasir was really on the edge and a last lap mistake could have happened but highly unlikely imo.

Great race no late race shenanigans.

So was there a white flag at all? I guess they just dropped the checker in error.
File it under " you had one job ! "

Happy for all the winners. Especially Rog and Giuseppe.

Pit crew won this one on the money stop.

No.

I'm speculating but I -think- they crossed the stripe with enough time left for one full lap and at least start a second; and then that 'first of two' lap took longer than expected (due to traffic?) and the clock expired before they got back to the line. Flag status doesn't matter; the clock is God.

I saw the flag person waving the white but it was after the GTP leaders had crossed the line. They didn’t see the white at all. It went white to checkered in less than a lap.

Wonder if they waved the flag as the clock hit 1:40 PM rather than using the race clock?

If this person is to be believed, no they just ****** up.

Okay, I've been wrong before. I've been careful to say I was speculating.

Could IMSA get any more bonkers? If they are going to go at it like this for 24 hours, how nutso are the sprints going to be?
Seriously, why aren't more motorsports fans watching these guys? Is it strictly a bias favoring ovals, or maybe something against multiple drivers? No stages or other 'fake' cautions; indeed, the officials are reluctant to throw a yellow and will give a driver plenty of time to get restarted. Most of the cars are as 'stock' as you'll find in big-time racing.

Official winner’s elapsed time was 23:58:24.723. Checks out.
Well, we can all tell ourselves that the race was basically over and that no class leader stood a realistic chance of being passed unless they made a mistake or something broke.

Then again, more bizarre things have happened on track...

Because there’s a lack of big name Star drivers in IMSA. The 24 hours could have used Bubba Wallace or Chase Elliott or Ross Chastain.

Did you see the stands? It was a very respectable crowd, much larger than anything I've seen before. I have pictures from the "golden years" of the 917s and 512s, where you can see two or three people, and that's it. Let's just hope today's crowd is just a good start.

Sportscar racing is so complex it's hard to follow even for sportscar fans. Too much effort for a lot of people.
