Yeah, it's not economically viable for the states to have plows, salt, etc. for something that happens only a couple of days every three or four years. Here in the Carolinas, the state will attach plow-like blades to the front of DMV trucks. There's a limited number of blades compared to states with regular snowfall. Instead of salt to melt the snow, sand is scattered to (theoretically) improve traction.

It doesn't take more than a half inch for non-essential businesses and schools to close. For the majority of people, there's nowhere to go anyway. That doesn't stop them. My personal rule has always been I wouldn't venture out of the neighborhood until I could get the tires on at least one side of the car on clear pavement. I'm also not going over 30 until I can get all four on clear asphalt. If that means I have to pull over and let Bubba go by, fine. More than once I've driven by him in the ditch later.

Just stay the f home.
 
Moved to Raleigh NC area Jan 1996. Stayed with a buddy in Chapel Hill. We were walking around the town with 70* sunny weather. Got up next morning to 8ish inches of snow. His place was in basement of a log cabin type structure. Door opened out. Nope. Couldn't opened door for 3 days. If had been a fire...crispy critters. One door, no windows. Definitely not a legal living space.

Then it got COLD! Low 20's. Then it warmed up to 30 and snowed, got COLD, warmed up and snowed, warmed little more and rained, got cold...a pattern developed. Realized, had to open door every hour or so, go out shovel, so could get out. Eventually had nearly foot of extremely hard packed snow due to freeze/thaw/rain/snow. It took 3ish weeks to clear the snow cause never got up to usual 50's.

No shovel, no problem! Just use the lids of these. Heck, we use them even here in Kansas where your average person has a shovel.

Living in South Mississippi I never in my life thought I would be too far north to get snow but here we are. Had off and on flurries this morning/early afternoon but nothing stuck. Rode down the highway about ten minutes and there was a little bit in the south end of the county.

12-15 miles East ish of Raleigh NC. Maybe 3 inches? 20 degrees now and supposed to be around 30 at daylight.

I'm still up. Down side of occasionally sleeping 16 hours is eventually the body gets even. Got sleepy about 8:30pm and slept for at least 9 hours...or so I thought. Nope. Slept about 3. Now killing time till daylight. Will sweep snow off truck and hit Hardee's for my usual Biscuits & Gravy.

I'm an addict.

 
The rain gauge has about 2.5 inches of dry powder stuff. The wind has been quite strong and has kept many of the higher surfaces clear or with little build-up. Darling Bride and I scraped and swept enough of the deck and steps so the Wonder Mutts could get into the yard. Wonder Mutt #2 went charging out and ran in a couple of circles. WM#1 was more resigned: "Okay, I'm going straight out, doo what I came out here for, and go straight back in." WM#2 was close behind #1.
 
LA getting some much needed rain. Because we all know water helps fight fires.
 
Getting ready for a week's worth of snow staring tonight with 6-8" expected. Then, every other night until next Sunday with 4-6 " each event. The day Temps get up to 36 just enough to freeze everything at night.
The 'ol Ariens snowblower will get its legs stretched this week.
 
Crazy rain cell over the area right now. Those folks in the burn areas might have a rough day. Cool but sunny tomorrow.

17% of California gonna get washed into the ocean. Next emergency will be the environmentalist screaming about the pollution. Not that they wrong, just saying.

A bunch of crap from the Palisades burn zone washed out to sea last night, along with one LAFD fire dude. LAFD guy wasn’t harmed. The ocean is brown.

This Tuesday, we have a forecasted high of 9 degrees with 5-8 inches of snow expected. Next Tuesday, it’s forecasted to be 64 degrees and sunny. Uhh, okay. 🤔
 
Preparing for SNOWMAGEDDON 2025. Possibly 4 inches! Problem will be gonna stay cold for several daze. Normally get 6ish hours of high 20's, SNOW, then 50 degrees by 10AM. So I wait with baited breath. (had anchovies for breakfast)
