2025 Rule Changes

One thing that caught my eye was the 'Open Exemption Provisional' does not earn prize money. From Jayski's summary:

If the OEP is used, the driver/car owner will NOT be eligible for race points, playoff points, prize money, or any tiebreaker benefit of finishing position.

Somebody woke the f up.

No, Mr. Gluck, Helio is NOT already in. The 'Guest Star' provisional has to be applied for 90 days in advance. That deadline for the D500 is well past.

Confirmed from NASCAR: Trackhouse requested this new "OEP" for Helio Castroneves in time for the Daytona 500, and he has been approved. He will be in the race no matter what. It was in new charter agreement, so charter teams knew about it (even if we didn't until now).

If Helio ends up racing his way end, then he would get the prize money correct? Like the rule doesn’t apply unless he has to fall back on it, I would think.

The way I'm reading this the provisional would only be used if the driver in question fails to qualify.
If he qualifies on time or in the duel ge won't need it though. And he and Trackhouse would get prize money.
I may have misunderstood how it works. That shouldn't surprise anyone who's been here more than ten minutes.

You could be right. Give it a shot at qualifying, but uf that doesn't work take the provisional. My question is he was already named for the spot, what happens if someone else comes along? Time for Nascar's rubber rule book I guess.

I see it as losing the chance to make it on time (and the benefits of such) etc as the cost of getting the guaranteed spot it provides without having a charter. I could be wrong.

Probably would be too late I would guess. I’m gonna guess they asked for it for him way before it was announced, because the rule is asking 90 days before the event. So anyone who hasn’t asked yet is late to the party.

I understand car counts aren’t really high enough for this to be necessary often, but do we know if there’s a limit on this?

Just for example could Trackhouse come with a new Project 91 driver say once a month and use it if they wanted to? Or can they only do it say a couple of times a year?

Also we got a “Kyle Larson rule” regarding waivers. Maybe this is the “Trackhouse rule”, though there are definitely other times I could see it being used, for example with 23XI last year and Kobayashi.

As history has shown us, if NASCAR wanted to bend the rule they would.
