If the OEP is used, the driver/car owner will NOT be eligible for race points, playoff points, prize money, or any tiebreaker benefit of finishing position.
Only problem is what defines an open exemption provisional driver? LolOne thing that caught my eye was the 'Open Exemption Provisional' does not earn prize money. From Jayski's summary:
They possibly loose all playoff points...if they have any.Still no explicit denial of waivers for drivers who were suspended for on-track actions, I see.
Larger field under the "right" reasons.
No, Mr. Gluck, Helio is NOT already in. The 'Guest Star' provisional has to be applied for 90 days in advance. That deadline for the D500 is well past.
Pop Quiz: One of these could be considered an 'Open Exemption Provisional' driver. Is itOnly problem is what defines an open exemption provisional driver? Lol
Gracias.Confirmed from NASCAR: Trackhouse requested this new "OEP" for Helio Castroneves in time for the Daytona 500, and he has been approved. He will be in the race no matter what. It was in new charter agreement, so charter teams knew about it (even if we didn't until now).
You're guess is as good as any. They need to spell that out more IMO.If Helio ends up racing his way end, then he would get the prize money correct? Like the rule doesn’t apply unless he has to fall back on it, I would think.
As I understand it, it's not a rule he'll fall back on. Having the application accepted locks him into the conditions. If Helio ends up racing his way end, then he would get the prize money correct? Like the rule doesn’t apply unless he has to fall back on it, I would think.
Well dang. I’m sure he doesn’t probably care about the money anyway tbh.As I understand it, it's not a rule he'll fall back on. Having the application accepted locks him into the conditions.

With no payoff?I could see multiple drivers/teams applying for an open exemption provisional for the Daytona 500
I guess this fits here …
I looked but could not find a definition of "prize money" in the context of OEP. Not sure if that is a significant factor. With no payoff?
Yeah some of these rules are pretty vague. I don't know if they should call them rules, they probably should say "At Nascar's disgression"I looked but could not find a definition of "prize money" in the context of OEP. Not sure if that is a significant factor.

The way I'm reading this the provisional would only be used if the driver in question fails to qualify. One thing that caught my eye was the 'Open Exemption Provisional' does not earn prize money. From Jayski's summary:

If he qualifies on time or in the duel ge won't need it though. And he and Trackhouse would get prize money.Helio already has it. Maybe there is stuff we don't know like reduced entry fees or other reductions

I may have misunderstood how it works. That shouldn't surprise anyone who's been here more than ten minutes. If he qualifies on time or in the duel ge won't need it though. And he and Trackhouse would get prize money.

You could be right. Give it a shot at qualifying, but uf that doesn't work take the provisional. My question is he was already named for the spot, what happens if someone else comes along? Time for Nascar's rubber rule book I guess. If he qualifies on time or in the duel ge won't need it though. And he and Trackhouse would get prize money.
Probably would be too late I would guess. I’m gonna guess they asked for it for him way before it was announced, because the rule is asking 90 days before the event. So anyone who hasn’t asked yet is late to the party. You could be right. Give it a shot at qualifying, but uf that doesn't work take the provisional.
