All Star Race ratings plummet 15%

DTM America is going to be good. They're probably going to grab a few of the Japanese Super GT manufacturers too and are probably going to run at places like Daytona and Sebring.

just what imsa needs..........mo alphabet soup.
but i'll watch ! ha!

I went to the first two races of the year and would've had a hard time telling the difference between some of the GTD/GTLM cars if not for the leader lights. Splitting the race at Long Beach and the two at Laguna Seca was a lot easier to follow.

Thankfully, DTM isn't that tricky.

Putting stuff on FS1 and FS2, ESPN3, NBCSN alienated a lot of people. These channels are in upper tier programming, that means you pay more to get them.
The greed of the brain and nascar in general is sickening. A lot of people are making the hard choice to pay their bills or enrich a fat gluttonous pig even more. Only reason I have FS1 and 2 is it's part of the package I got with FIOS. I'll be damned if I was going to continue paying Cox their exorbitant fee for their crap.
Going back to the pre 2001 TV contracts where most of the races were on cable , I think NASCAR and most of the Cup races being aired on OTA networks has run its course.

I lost alot of interest when they allowed toyota in! I know of alot of others who did as well!
This thinking by a lot of the fans is something NASCAR does not need, and I say good riddance to all the ones that left over Toyota joining NASCAR

this sunday...........f1...indy....nascar .......... nbc will have all 3 series -- 2nd half '15.
maybe then ...after many bl's durin nascar race ........
.....you-n-johali will accidentally stay tuned ta indy race .....an like it !!
Pretty sure NBCSN also has AMA Motocross and Global Rallycross too, and I know for sure they have Pirelli World Challenge. It will be greater than SPEED ever was.

Again, not an IndyCar Series fan typing here but I am a NASCAR fan. As long as they're on I'll be watching them. I really don't give a crap what others are doing with their Sunday's.
Ratings help drive the sport. At least in IndyCar's case, better ratings would probably mean more venues wanting to host the series, a third (at least) engine manufacturer, and more sponsors. The same logic can be applied to all series.

Starting 2015
FOX- 9 Cup races
FS1-7 Cup races
FS1-14 Nationwide
NBC-7 races
NBCSN-13 Cup races
NBC -4 Nationwide
NBCSN-15

Plus NBC will do be doing live streaming of Cup and Nationwide series races

A difference of 9559, pretty darn close

not.....if ya add tha 3 zero's on tha end.

by '15 ....fs1-n-nbcsn oughta be built out ta prediction.
att just bought directtv.......dish is next minnow.
move is on.

Glad to see ratings are down across the board this year. Too bad stupid NASCAR won't realize it's because of the effed up championship system.

Too bad I'm not contributing to the ratings decline. I will not watch the finale at Homestead, however.

Then don't. The nets don't want nascar without a GUARNTEED level playing field title race. Pts racing had run it's course. The original idea of the chase had run it's course. Probably time you moved on to something else. It's never going back to the "every race counts the same" system.

NBCSN and FS1 were desperate for content. They signed long before even preliminary discussions for the new Chase system started back in January.

Through 2024.
Sooooo then this is about as relevant as the Josh Wise thing lol

Clearly NASCAR will do something to change this... Im sure it has a lot to do with Canada, FS2, and NBC. I don't think its really something we need to worry about. Its not like theyre going to stop airing races.

God I cant wait for tomorrow... we need some real things to talk about lol

new chase talks only started in january ? hardly.
don't ya remember brian talkin bout "partnerships " back last summer / fall ?

format talks prolly more so w/ fox than nbc initially.
when nbc jumped in .....$$ went up.

If you don't think those discussions were happening going back to when NBC signed on I've got a bridge to sell ya.

NASCAR started talking new TV deals back in 2012. Revamping the Chase was hardly a blip on the radar at that point in time. None of the drivers even heard about it until January.

This is definitely a transition period for nascar. Some fans will walk away. Nothing they can do to stop ya. Trying to chase them and get them back proved to be a losing battle. I like and agree with the grandstand downsizing that's going on and still needs to happen at a few joints. The new system for getting in the chase has produced great racing. The new qual system is very entertaining to me. I like the 4 drivers on equal ground at homestead for the title as well. I love this sport. The fanbase IMO has become very whiny over the past decade. As if nascar is supposed to cater to their individual needs! It used to be that nascar fans banded together to bash outsiders who bashed nascar. Now "fans" get in line to bash the sport they supposedly love.

I have a feeling it will change again. I guess the ratings during the Chase will tell the tale, but the TV ratings so far this season indicate that the new format isn't going over so well. Brian isn't going to just sit on that, but I'm afraid to see what he'll come up with next.

Nah. Has to give it a few yrs. has 2 partners on their way out and many races going to 2 channels that aren't household names. Ratings will be lower next yr for many of those. What the ratings look like after 2017/18 are more important

The last format only lasted three years, if this one doesn't take off by 2016, I'd be willing to bet it will be gone too.

think fox / nbc didn't start talkin cable units til '13 ?
espn / tnt weren't gonna pay 8.2 billion
fox neither maybe ...til nbc got involved.

chase revamp was in play w/ tv guys long before $$ contracts signed.
wanna kill that deal.......let drivers / owners / fans know beforehand ! ha!

FOX had already signed to commit $2.4 billion through 2022 back in 2012, although they didn't specify the broadcast/cable split. All they confirmed was the 500 would stay on broadcast.

Fox had ready re-upped their deal. Nbc did a terrible job valuing nascar. They didn't realize that espn and TNT were just gonna let it go. They overpaid big time. What's funny is that on Facebook and twitter. Racing message boards everywhere TONS of fans think their local nbc is taking over either the whole sport or just the 2nd half. At the same time they blast fox for moving races next yr to fs1. When I tell them how it breakdown I wish I could see the look on their face!

Ratings stopped dropping several years ago and had plateaued until this year.

As long as everyone understands that those highs are no longer reachable everything is cool. If this is the bottom than there's no problem. 2012 ratings are about what nascar should be getting

yep...bout 1/2 what they now gonna pay .

We're bashing the idiots who have completely destroyed the integrity of the championship system. The vast majority of fans do not like the idea that the ONE!!! race can determine an entire season's champion!

EDIT: It is theoretically possible for a driver to win every single race in a season except the last, then lose the entire championship if something goes wrong for that driver in the final race.

Ratings do not matter to me. Availability is what matters. It's generally on the weekend. What is the competing viewable content; This Old House?

I thought ESPN and TNT even informed NASCAR before their priority deadline that they weren't interested in extending. NBC paid a nutso amount of money, but it's a good sum for the sport.

Espn played coy. Turner made no secret about their intentions. The heavy Ota amount of races has played itself out. Major market fox affiliates and O&O fox stations would rather not have to air races. They lose $$$. Here in Chicago nascar gets little ratings. NYC,Philly, boston, and others. Next to nothing. They'd rather sell that time for infomercials or movies. Same for nbc. In time fs1 and nbcsn will be as available as espn is.

I am not sure how true it was, but I read , and this was when all the talk about Speed becoming all sports, was that News Corp had been wanting to do a national sports network going all the way back to the late 90's, its just took them a very long time to get it done

Yep. Gotta remember about fs1. Even at 9mos old it's still an infant. It's major programming doesn't start airing until this fall with mlb playoffs and next spring with nascar, the us open golf tourney and the womens World Cup.

21 races between NW and cup. Between 10-20 mlb playoff gms. 1st 2 days of the us open and many wwc gms including team USA. There's like 60-70mill viewers coming between oct 14 and the end of june 15. That doesn't count any gains their Cfb and cbb may get this fall and winter. Also they're expected to gain pieces of the big 10 football and bball and nba in coming yrs. Nascar is only the beginning at fs1

may be good for nbc in '15 ?
