Ambrose Vs Mears

Would never have thought that this thread would have lasted this long. Two guys got in a fight. Neither of them is still pissed as I understand it. NASCAR handed out token penalties. What's left?

Payback. Marco's has some coming for sure, and I think he knows it. Casey will get him before the year is over.

All through my school years I used to get in fights won a few and lost a few.

Then in as high school I saw a fight were a guy really knew how to throw a punch. It was a devastating thing, he hammered the other guys face. Usually when a guy connects like that it is over, the other guy is too stunned to respond. If the puncher is really vicious he can throw a few more unopposed punishing ones, and he did.
Thank God I never pushed that guy's buttons.

Afterwards, I got to thinking fighting isn't such a good thing, Greg is a peace loving man and we can works things out.

I dont think he will, I think their both glad it is over (just my opinion here).
If Casey were to issue some payback inside the 3000 lb. plus cocoon while banking on pit crew protection afterwards, it would truly be the actions of a coward.

I think he is a better man than that, and he will not.

I am not, We have had longer threads on what people have said. The show stopper here probably happens when things get going at Talladega.

IDK. Did you see Casey after Ambrose hit him? He was going to beat the crap out of Marco's, who back pedaled darn fast until a crewman got between them. I think Casey will make some moves that hurt Ambrose on the track, but he won't wall him. I don't have to tell you that payback usually comes in the form of racing a guy like an ass for a few weeks.

I agree with about how they will race each other, we will just wait snd see how things go. I wouldn't have a problem with that.

Its because we rarely get to see a punch in the face lol so ppl want to keep talking about it. Plus the penalties just came down yesterday.

Pemberton said mears instigated the incident and Ambrose retaliated. Yet Ambrose got the larger fine. Mears started the incident. In typical nascar fashion the dog has a sore butt.

I don't think Mears wants another knuckle-sandwich. I think this is just a heat of the moment thing and it's probably over. Do admire them both for talking it over.

That's payback?
Kenseth dumped him out of a top 3 at Bristol. Gordon put on probation after race for physical altercation.
Come Michigan, while on probation, Gordon dumps Kenseth out of the lead & goes on to win.

Just saying, payback while on probation isn't unheard of.

I had forgotten about the Michigan part of the equation. Probably a different deal with those two however. Their sponsors weren't going anywhere. Casey and Ambrose have a lot to lose if their sponsors get pissed. They aren't exactly mega stars, and sponsor loyalty can be fickle. No chance we see payback. Just my gut.

Meh. I don't think drivers put sponsorship guidelines into the equation when their in the heat of the moment. If anything, this has put Stanley & Geico on every sports network for a few days. Easy promotion imo

Marcus is a rough n tough man who uses Stanley Tools

Mears is a driver who needs insurance (maybe health insurance) but insurance none the less

This is the kind of thing PR crisis mgmt lives for. Turn a bad situation into a golden one.

Sell that line of thinking to Mars Inc.
Marcos was driving for sick kids, and decks one of NASCAR's "good guys" after the race. Crisis Management....Go! Casey and Marcos are done with this.

Jamie Mac says there shouldn't have been any fines.

"I'd hoped NASCAR would let that go...they've preached to all of us that they want us to be who we are, said McMurray. "I think it's good that you have some characters in the sport that -- I'm not calling Casey or Marcos out, but not everyone is willing to -- or is the type of guy that would punch someone, right? I think you can count on one hand the guys that would actually throw a punch. Everyone is talking about it. I'm building a house, and when I got up to the home site, that's all the guys wanted to talk about and they wanted to know if I have any inside scoop. I think it's great. I don't want to see anyone get punched, but it's been -- how many years ago has it been since someone actually punched someone? It's got everyone talking about the sport and I think it's good you see those guys' passion. I was really hoping that NASCAR was going to let it go or that the fines would be less because that's a huge -- $25,000 is massive. My opinion of that is that you won't see it happen again because I think people will think about that and be like, it's not worth it. It's not worth $25,000 for me to express exactly how I feel at this time."

McMurray admitted there have been a few times where he's been in the same situation but that it's been a long time. "If it was happening every week, I think it would be different, but if they hadn't fined those guys, I don't think it would have happened again for a long time. I think it's very circumstantial with the two right guys, you know. I don't think Casey had any intentions of throwing a punch. Casey went over there and was wanting to get his point across. I don't think he had any -- when he got hit, you could tell he was like, I can't believe I just got punched, right? I don't think anyone had that mindset going into it."

Jamie Mac talking about personalities. lol

Did Jimmie chime in yet?

Donnie Allison is on Sirius NASCAR Radio now talking about various things Talladega. They asked him about the Ambrose/Mears dust-up from Saturday night. He said that they shouldn't have been fined and that it will make for some good advertising.

They went on to ask him about the 79' Daytona 500 and the fight on the backstretch. He said that he, Bobby and Cale Yarborough were all fined $6000 back then.

Ambrose on SiriusXM NASCAR Radio this morning talking a little about the Mears incident.

Drama. Doesn't sound like a guy that is going head hunting for the 13 to me. Unreal. Would have never thought that would have gotten the attention it has.

@ Charlotte Motor Speedway today.....

@bobpockrass

Good conversation with Ambrose. He said next time, he'd walk away earlier. Both Richard Petty and Bruton Smith don't think there should have been a fine.

The memories that will last a lifetime :D

Richard Petty & Bruton Smith comment on fines handed down by NASCAR.

RP

“You’ve got to defend yourself no matter what, but if he knew he was going to be fined $25,000, (you) might have let the guy take another swing at him,” Petty said Thursday.

Ambrose is paying the fine and not appealing, but Petty said he wants to talk to NASCAR about it, considering NASCAR has been pushing a “boys have at it” philosophy the last few years.

“No way he should have been fined,” Petty said following an appearance at Charlotte Motor Speedway. “The first thing they done is ‘Gentlemen have at it’ or whatever they called it. … What I seen on the TV was that he was trying to get away.

“The boy kept pushing and shoving and he was trying to get away and finally got cornered and had to come out of that. Is NASCAR saying, ‘OK just lay there and get the tar beat out of you, we won’t fine you, we’ll fine the other guy?’ I don’t know what their rationale was.”

“It used to go on a little bit all the time, but they didn’t have all of the TV cameras and all that stuff, so you could go around behind a truck and do what you needed to do and there wasn’t very many people who knew about it,” Petty said.

Petty, the sport's all-time winningest driver and an inaugural inductee into the NASCAR Hall of Fame, supports his driver.

“I always look at it as you have to defend yourself no matter what the circumstances are, and that’s what I saw in the Marcos situation,” Petty said.

“What provoked it? I have no idea. I don’t even think Marcos knows really what provoked the whole thing, but in the (grand) scheme of things if you can’t protect yourself, then NASCAR is not going to come and protect you, so he had to do what he had to do.”

BS

“I was thinking here earlier about paying his fine,” Smith said after the event at Charlotte Motor Speedway.
Smith said the fine wasn't necessary.

“I am not upset, but I certainly wish they hadn’t done that,” Smith said. “I was hoping that they would just not pay any attention to that. That’s a Saturday night and they said, ‘boys, have at it,’ and this is part of it.

“I think they should have ignored it. I wish they would re-think it right now and refund his money. It would be wonderful.”

from here

I'm really torqued with the Ambrose fine. Nascar has smart people and have done some amazing things, this year's racing is proof of that. But this is the second obvious blunder I've seen this year that's mind boggling. First was at Daytona when Kasey Kahne sped up to avoid getting smashed by an out of control car and got penalized because of it. Nascar's answer was he should've slowed down and got smashed. But hey, at least he would've avoided the speeding penalty.

And now this. Ambrose, who wasn't the instigator, was just supposed to continue to get pushed and pulled around in order to avoid a fine. The man has a right to defend himself. Maybe someone should do the same to Pemberton and see how long it takes him to swing. If they want to fine someone, how about Brad K for hitting cars after the race. I really love this sport but can't stand injustice bs like this.

I respect Mears for handling the aftermath well. I have always thought he was a good guy. I dont think the confrontation was typical or representative of him.

Racing is a passionate thing and emotions are strong and he just picked the wrong guy. There are probably 38 to 40 other drivers he could have safely swatted flies with, the percentages were on his side.

Brad K deserved a shiner much more for his post race BS imo.

I agree with Greg 100%, Kosheslouski earned and begged for a thumping but Kurt kept his cool. Then again, Kurt did have to go a receive that big fat winners check.
