Apple Products = POS

Android has been great to me. My LG G8 phone still working flawless. I've had the G2, G4, and G6 before this. All very good phones that never gave me any issues.

I also have a company cell for work and it's an iphone, and although the 12 is quite a bit better than the earlier versions I had, I still don't like it. Android has a MUCH better interface, more options, less restrictions. You get a lot more for your money.

Yep, someone gets it.

Don't get me wrong..... iPhones do the job they were intended for and are simple to use. Their only problem is that they're pretty much a locked device. You're bound by the confinements of Apple. I started this thread because of being asked for a long forgotten password to download a free app. Sure, my bad for forgetting a password but it took days to get it rectified. Completely asinine in today's world. Something that should have been a few minute ordeal at the most.

I didn't get the 5G option. 1st because it's much more expensive and 2nd, the ongoing monthly expense through whatever service provider. I've got the larger S7+ model. Can't imagine using something that size as a phone.
 
Have a Samsung tablet running Android I was trying to get to turn on to reset and all that. Finally got pissed and threw it out the window.

I've been using Apple products for nearly twenty years and my laptop is nine years old. Two years ago I decided to replace it after some issues and an inability to find someone who could repair it, purchased an HP Pavilion. It was my first experience with Win10 and confusing. Relearning mail and different typing formats, or finding my way around the basics became a chore. In the end it was learned, somewhat, and like the man said, "a lack of knowledge can be a frustrating ordeal."
However, continued frustration finally won out and I ended up selling it at the same price I paid and later found a repair for my MacBook Air.
Now having small issues again, unrelated to the last problem, and thinking of purchasing another laptop and getting another MacBook Air.
Like a old, worn pair of work boots, and the same Bride to come home to after a long, hard day, that sorta tells it in a nutshell.
Familiarity with Apple products overcame the drawbacks and I'm a happy camper. Until another issue arises ........................ :idunno:

Certainly understand that. My reason for starting this thread was through the frustration of simply trying to install a free app on my old iPad. A password was required, that had been long forgotten, to download the app. The avenue to reset that password was extremely time consuming due to apples grasp over their products. Something that I've never encountered on an Android based product.

Many people swear by apple Products. With over a 36 year background in writing code for a living, my preference has always been the open architecture of Android. It allows for far more flexibility and compatibility across devices of all kinds. Whether it's my Android phone, my Android tablet, my multiple Firesticks or Fire TV's, flexibility and the availability to do anything I want with the products I own is welcomed. I have found workarounds to manipulate my iPad to load 3rd party apps and the like but it's far easier on the Android side.

When it comes to computers, I stick with Windows. But Apple products just work, it’s really that simple.

They work until they don't.

I've had iphones and ipads (forced on me by my employer at the time) fail. A decade ago, I had an ipod fail after less than a year. Yet my Zune from like 2007 still works like new.

Windows 10 Pro works well enough, but nothing will ever top Windows XP in my opinion.

Those NT based operating systems were unbreakable.

I love my Microsoft products and wish they were still in the smartphone market. I had a Windows Phone and that thing was badass.
 
Against my better judgement I got sucked into a deal for one of those free iphone 14's last September by AT&T's Lily, Milana Vayntrub, during the endless commercials at the start of last year's NFL season. I figure 9+ months in I can give it an educated review.

The phone itself is of great quality. It's downfall remains it's closed architecture. I know that long time Apple fans will disagree as they love their phones. Apple's iOS continues to have virtually everything locked down.

Problems that I have with the phone include.....

Bluetooth connections - The operating system has a tough time handling multiple simultaneous Bluetooth connections. Not a problem for the average user but as an OTR truck driver it's quite frustrating. I have at least four connections that I need to maintain throughout my day. My headset, dual GPS connections and trucks head unit often disconnect when a call is received requiring a reconnection of all devices.

Streaming wirelessly - It seems that you can only stream to a device if they share a common network. Works fine if your at home and are actually on a network but not so well over the road.

Volume - Lack of individual volume controls. Something probably confusing to the long time iPhone user but quite useful to those that know its uses.

Camera - Not sure what the numbers say but the eye test doesn't lie. Seems like nothing more than a basic camera when compared to other devices. I'm not saying it sucks. It's simply lacking.

Photo/Video sharing - Photos/Video sent to non iPhones are downgraded in quality. Not sure why unless they are trying to use that as an incentive to purchase their products.

Using the 'Swipe Typing' - Can't seem to get through a sentence without having to make some sort of correction. I've tried multiple keyboards but something is always off on this phone.

Siri's complete takeover - I use Siri a lot because I need to stay hands free while driving. Most times, not all, Siri does not relinquish control back to what I was doing or listening to. Many times I have to interactivity set up my Bluetooth connections again to pick up where I left off.

Those are my biggest issues with the phone.

Great review from someone who has no dog in the fight. I have an iPhone 13 and get frustrated when it refuses to allow me to swipe up to clear things out. That's just for openers. Often thought of going to android phone but hoping this one will last my lifetime since I am now closer to 87 than 86 years of age. Not sure how much time is left before my expiration date which begs the question, do any of us know?
 
Beyond the stuff I mentioned earlier in this thread (limited options/customizability, unnecessary restrictions, etc) there are still so many reasons I can’t stand my iphone. Just off the top of my head, these are some of the things that annoy me the most……

Apple’s keyboard is beyond terrible. Typing/texting takes so much longer than it should. There are times when I try and “backspace” and it deletes the entire word instead of the last letter. Need to go back and edit a word somewhere? You can’t just touch it, you have to hold the spacebar to locate that word with the “cursor” or whatever it’s called. Swype is so inaccurate it’s completely useless. Talk-to-text is just as bad. Autocorrect sucks. I can type a paragraph without errors on my Android phone MUCH faster.

Some of the iphone’s most basic concepts, like the gesture for swiping the screen to locate the notifications tab or recent windows/apps, requires pinpoint precision and frequently multiple attempts in order to function. Never an issue on my Android because the design is much better thought out.

No back button always has and always will annoy me. Not a problem with Android.

Apple’s process to change settings for the most simple tasks is cumbersome. Way too many steps, not nearly as accessible as they should be. It’s extremely quick and efficient with Android. The layout of the menus just makes sense and everything is easy to find.

Many times I will try and silence an incoming call and end up taking a screenshot because of the iphone’s button layout/assignment. Also will take random pictures because the camera app opens when you are fumbling around with the phone in your pocket or whatever. Never had these problems with any Android.

I can’t tell you how many times my iphone calls someone by mistake because the person I’m talking to hangs up a split second before me. As I go to press the “end call” icon, the call screen instantly disappears, frequently reverting back to the recent call list and ends up calling whoever was on that part of the screen when I went to touch the icon. On my Android, the “call ended” display holds on the screen for a couple seconds to avoid this.

Every time I try and listen to a voicemail, it pauses after the first couple seconds and I need to hit play again. Works flawless on Android.

Most people who love Apple and hate Android just don’t know any better because they are used to the terrible interface of their iphones and have no idea what they are missing and how much better it could be. They probably judge Android from their experience with a POS Samsung Galaxy S2 a decade ago and think all Android phones are still buggy with no battery life. Take it from someone who uses both phones every single day (iphone 12 at work, LG G8 for personal use)…..the Android phone functions 50x better, in my opinion. Every aspect of a phone, the difference is night and day. My G8 does literally everything better (and costs wayyyy less money).

It's all just personal preference, but that’s my opinion from years of experience with both operating systems.
 
I just have always assumed that Android has more downloadable
porntential so as a result I have never considered an Apple product.

I also like being able to put extra storage on an SD card. I already have the stealth colored helicopters spying on me everyday, I aint putting stuff on cloud for them to easily see.
