Aric Almirola announces he will not return to Stewart-Haas Racing

That doesn't surprise me, because you have said numerous times that you don't like the direction NASCAR is going so you don't watch that many races anymore. ;)

I have never understood the rationale behind the “team owner must be at the track” thing. Normally owners are overseers and have valued employees to take care of day to day operations.

Some teams probably do better when the owners stay away and let them do the job they were hired to do.

Besides driving the car I'm not sure how much smoke was ever involved in the day to day of that organization. If anything be had at Zippy, he's the competition director

Back to the original question. For this case alone I can't belive Ford let a talent like Zane get away. Sounds like Noah is the leading candidate for the ride, which seems odd to me. Right now I guess I have custer penciled in because I can't think of anyone decent that's still available? I'd love to see Justin Allgaier get a shot but I think those days are long gone and he's signed up for another year at JRM

I wouldn't cut out Custer either. SHR's history is not telling anybody what they are going to do, so these rumors don't hold much weight. They sure are taking their sweet time about it.

I also love home everyone blames smoke but doesn't mention how much time and money Gene spends playing in F1

I have mentioned that, but Tony is the difference maker, haas racing sucked until it became stewart-haas racing.

There is some truth to this, but apparently SHR is not one of those teams.
There are a lot of things that will cause teams to stumble. But for some reason you are stuck on just one. I don’t agree that Tony is the reason.

I personally believe that Herbst will get the #10, & people aren't going to like it. It is what it is, he has funding. I personally think he's got some upside. I like him more than most though.

Well the team was a top tier team before Tonys interests went elsewhere. Maybe that's not the reason but it's the biggest thing that has changed since SHR was a top team. I think briscoe and preeces are better talents than bowyer and almirola so why aren't they performing as well? Penske and RFK haven't been so bad.

They just signed Herbst a little while ago for more Xfinity shots, IDK if they would go that far.

I think there is lack of leadership at SHR. Either they haven’t hired the right people or they themselves aren’t the right people.
The reason Penske is successful is because he’s always been very good at hiring the right people.
Something is off at SHR and has been for a while.
It is about to get worse there with Kevin retiring.
Is Kevin going to take another position at SHR or is he done at SHR? I admit I haven’t been following the sport as closely as I used to.

Kevin will be on the fox broadcast next year.

I don't think it's a thing you can prove one way or another, but I think it would send quite a messuage if Tony started showing up every week and taking a more up front role with the team the way Jeff Gordon has. I personally don't believe Tony has any real interest in doing that, but that's just an opinion. Like I said, I don't think it would be such a big deal if Gene Haas was more out in front as an owner, but he has NEVER been that guy.

Can you blame him for not wanting to be around on a regular basis? Nascar isn't exactly pleased that he owns the SRX series, which uses their stars. He's openly expressed his displeasure with the way Nascar operates. And most importantly Nascar really screwed him over when it came to dirt racing, he really went out there to help get Nascar on dirt and when it came to cup running dirt he was thrown aside.

No, I can't blame him at all for not wanting to be around, or for having things he would rather be doing. All I'm saying is that his team could REALLY use him. If he doesn't want to be that guy, maybe he should think about selling his interest, or at the very least sell a portion and bring in a partner that DOES want to fill that roll. Kevin Harvick would be the most obvious candidate. Kurt Busch would be another guy, but he seems to already have a gig.

Smoke is at the track this weekend so according to RF logic they should all run top 10?

Well they won tonight so I guess having the boss around did the job.
