Best and Worst Driver Crew Chief Pairing

I honestly believe that the Kyle/Dave pairing is one of the best in the sport. I can tell you this....if Kyle didn't have faith in him, he would be gone. Given that Dave is still there, that says a ton. Kyle is smart. Very smart. He is trusted and respected within JGR and TRD even when his mouth would have you convinced that this couldn't possibly be the case. Looking for a huge year.

How ironic would it be if Kyle finally breaks out in the chase...and the new format hands the championship to JJ?

Don't remember any of that in the Chase honestly. Refresh my memory.
Kyle does motivate his team. They know that in terms of raw speed, he is the fastest driver in the field. They freakin' know that if they get it right, they will be in the hunt every damn week. He could pull some BS Tony Robbins deal on them, or lead with his foot. I like the latter every freakin' time.

I forget the year, but it was with Addington. I remember Joe, JD and Steve walking the track after the race looking for the missing part. Turns out it wasn't tightened properly. I think the same chase they had a fast car during practice, then it just wouldn't go during the race. Turned out someone had left part of the wrapper on the air filter.

Yeah, I laughed my ass off. You would have thought that that would send Kyle through the roof. All he said was, "That doesn't work for me, Dave." After the Richmond debacle, Dave is not intimidated by Kyle. I think that Dave figures if he could make it through that, he can make it through anything. I thought he was gone.
Yeah, I haven't followed the Kyle Busch/Dave Rogers tandem extensively, but I've liked Dave ever since I saw this video from the fall Texas race in 2010 when Kyle had one of his classic meltdowns (warning, NSFW):

lol nascar violated Kyles constitutional rights. Classic Kyle Busch.

Remember when Kyle called nascar to a meeting so he could straighten them out on how to police the sport?

Then why haven't they even come close to winning a title?

A driver with Kyle's ability in Gibbs equipment should be competing for a title more often than not. He's got more talent than Kenseth, but the 20 team was clearly the superior Gibbs team last year.

Because winning a Championship is freakin' tough! Kyle is in the hunt every race. He is in the hunt every year for the Championship. Certainly, the Chase hasn't worked out very well, but with the exception of a couple of years ago (with Dave....missed it a few years ago with Addington) he's there and he is gaining on it.

What is so ridiculous is that nobody ever says this crap about Kahne and Francis. What about those guys? Kahne is a favorite year in and year out, and what have you got? Last year was terrible. Nothing said. Jr. doesn't even win a race, and OMG Letarte is leaving---but if only his motor didn't blow in Chicago....he would have been Champion! How about Carl? How the hell is Fenning still his CC. Didn't even come to play in the Chase. It goes on and on, but for some reason, if Kyle doesn't win the whole damn thing, everything is crap, and everybody needs to be fired. Nonsense. Leave that team alone.

As for the best team for Toyota and JGR? Kenseth had a great year. Ratcliff is an awesome CC and a great person. Nobody internally tries to determine who the #1 is--this I can tell you. That's all external--media and such. Obviously, everybody at JGR and TRD were disappointed with losing the Cup, but I can tell you that overall, they were very pleased with the year. There is significant momentum coming into this year. The 18 team is in good shape.

Yeah, I'm not used to people digging crap up from years ago. Just think, without all of that, we would have the "new" Kyle. :sarcasm:

These guys will rent a backhoe to dig something up about kyle

I think you guys may have missed my point. I actually posted that video because I agreed with what Revman was saying and to show why I liked Dave Rogers and think that he and Kyle are a good fit for each other, not to bash Kyle. Kyle started letting his emotions get the better of him in that race and Dave stood up, told it like it was, and kept him in check as best he could.

And now look, a little over three years later, they're still together, Kyle has managed to keep himself in check somewhat, and he finished top five in points in 2013. I didn't like the Addington for Rogers swap when it first happened, but at this point, Rogers doesn't need to go anywhere. If not for the disaster that was Kansas, Kyle would have been right there in contention for the title.

As I said in another thread, I am no Kyle hater. Don't get it twisted.

I replied to the wrong thread

I think comparing Kyle to Earnhardt is a joke lol

They had very similar driving styles. Lots of people hated Dale when he was racing for some of the same reason's they hate Kyle.

The Kansas incident in the NW race last year between Kyle and Brad is a good example of that.

Touche' I was just sayin' a narrow minded, pig headed driver CAN win Titles. Earnhardt Sr.= There is no substitute.:moon:
Dale Sr. backed up everything he ever said, kybu only talks bad when he's behind his bodyguards and backs up nothing.

I seem to recall Dale Sr. saying "I never hit anybody that was outside a race car" Never seen him act like a bully or an idiot (Kevin Harvick etc)

Dale Sr. didn't have to punch anybody, (he may have I don't know) he was intimidating enough that everybody knew that to push him too far was dangerous but he did stick his finger in a few drivers faces and tell them what's what and the other drivers backed off. Kybu hires people to fight fight's that he starts, plain and simple.

Look at Harvicks crew then look at Kyles, pretty obvious who would win the fight if there was one.

We were talking drivers not crew's, you can't fight kybu because you can't catch him without his entourage of bodyguards protecting him.

kybu is not the man DALE was. DALE"S six foot two frame had a lot to do with the intimidating. kybu needs to hire others to back him up.

Both times I ran in to him on pit road he was walking alone, there were plenty of other drivers nearby including Harvick. anyone that wanted to hurt him could easily have done so

You know better than that, It's in the passion of the moment that shows a persons true mettle not later after all of the cool down he said she said BS.

Ehh, to be fair, one could say the same thing about Harvick - and I like Harvick. He usually has his crew following right behind him to back him up too.

The only difference is that Harvick is usually running towards a potential confrontation rather than away from one. LOL.

If I remember correctly, Harvick sat in his car until some of his crew showed up before he got out to confront Kyle.

What a badass. lol

Right............. Harvick runs to a confrontation that he knows will be stopped before there is much of a fight. Kyle probably isnt much of a fighter and thats fine with me. He can wheel a car and thats why Im a fan. I do love it when he pisses off Harv though :p

I think we all do. That makes for very entertaining television.
