Biffle Says Goodbye To Roush

Wouldn't a life insurance company be better off with an older driver as their spokesman? This is like if Viagra got back in the sport with William Byron.

There's a lesson here regarding the NASCAR audience and the target demographic for life insurance companies, but I just can't quite make it out...

A life insurance company would be better off sponsoring a younger driver. The driver could help promote the importance of getting a life insurance policy at a young age. When you're older, signing up for life insurance doesn't help you much.

Especially one with MS

I swear..... I am not a ''hater'' on Roush.... I have been one of his most avid supporters even before he came into Cup in '88.... I go back to his Gapp and Roush days drag racing.. I was never so proud when he started his Nascar team...... you might see that in my screen name..... It has just been really hard these last few years to see how this dynasty has slowly evolved into backmarkers.............I started out FoMoCo in '64....... followed them all my life...... I am just so proud of all the teams over the years who were affiliated with them..... like Bud Moore, the Wood Brothers, Robert Yates, Jr. Johnson, Jack....... and all the others who carried the Blue Oval.... right now..... I am most appreciative of Penske ...... and SHR coming in.... I am not a ''hater'' of Jack.... just the opposite..... I admire him..... I just don't think much is going to happen to slow this tailspin ........ maybe they made improvements..... I hope he is correct...... It seems like after the blow of Mark, Carl , Kenseth and now Biffle leaving..... regrouping at his age and with what he has to work with (not just drivers but John Henry).... might be too much to overcome..... I look for his exit from Nascar in the coming few years...... (Very few)

We're talking life insurance, not a 401K plan.

I wonder if Biffle will have a career resurgence going to another team? The mayor was in the same position at Roush with no sponsor and then had a few good years at RCR and Cat.
I'll bet there is a team out there who hopes he can do for them what Kurt and Junior did for Furniture Row taking them to a respectable position for a one car team.

Shame. I always hoped biffle would turn things around and return to victory lane. Hard to do that with a dying race team.

I remember his rivalry with Harvick. After one wreck (I think at Bristol), Biffle predicted that Harvick would never win another race. Of course, Harvick has gone on to win a lot of races and a title while Biffle's career has tanked.

That's a little revisionalist history. I mean up until Roush tanking and Harvick going to SHR they had similar win totals.

I wouldn't call that revisionist, I would call it the point I was making :D

Biffle is a quality driver, I'm disappointed none of the 2nd tier teams didn't ditch their current driver to bring him in... Which speaks to my 2nd point, which is the widening gap between top tier seats and 2nd tier teams is quite significant now...Obviously no top tier team is going to replace their current driver with him now, too much investment and commitment, considering sponsorship and all. If this was 25 years ago, Biffle would have no problem finding a decent ride...just my perspective though.

Yeah.... 25 years ago there were a lot of 1 car teams..... and GOOD teams at that...teams that were a viable threat to win a race... they have been swallowed up in the corporate jungle of Nascar......

I think the great divide between top teams and lower teams will be on full display this year with Bowyer being in the 14. The fact that he qualified 4th in the SHR car this week vs barely finishing in the top 25 in races last year is kind of a black eye for nascar. This kind of proves that NASCAR has everything to do with the quality of the car and almost nothing to do with the driver.

In what form of motorsport would this not happen?

What this "proves" is something we already know. One team has more resources which yield better cars.

Didn't we learn this when Kurt Busch drove the 51 car?

That being said, we've seen enough poor drivers fail in good cars to know that driver talent has something to do with it. JJ Yeley can talk to you about that.

Oh gosh, he was so good in USAC. He won the silver crown twice, no?

Havin’ not been familiar with Yeley, apart from what I saw of him in NASCAR, I didn’t think he was much of a driver.

After expressin’ that opinion on this fine forum I have been corrected by at least one student of the global show that is racing. He’s a great driver. I don’t understand why I thought differently………………………...

He's certainly a great driver, but not a good NASCAR driver.

Thank you. If my confidence in him slips I'll remind myself of your declaration of greatness. I only have opinions.
