Bonehead of the race: Daytona 500

Not only are they in charge of the start times, but they are also in charge of the ridiculously long pre-race shows, excessive commercial breaks, and hiring buffoons who shouldn't be in front of a camera.
 
NASCAR.. That entire sequence when they told teams to uncover cars and drivers to return to their cars when it started pouring, especially when the radar showed more cells coming was beyond bush league bull****.

I mean come on, how you do expect to attract new fans when, thanks to whatever **** that was, they won't take you seriously
 
Yes NASCAR **** the bed.

But yes, there is still a race tomorrow.

And by Tuesday y'all will have forgotten about when this race was, the radar, the forecast, the start times, the underwear you're wearing, and what time you ate dinner last Thursday.
 
The fans. If they ran the race at noon it would have been shortened by rain anyways. Let's attempt to get it all in.

Very true. Unless the race ran under 3 hours (unlikely) the finish would've been rained out

Absolutely right! All 328 fans in California would complain, well actually 313, because the others enjoy the race being over at noon.;)

They can start the race at 10.00 am as long as they start the pre shows by 6.00 am and there will be no complaints here.

The GT cars weigh far less and have far more downforce for one thing. The banking doesn't hold water very well and the rain tires would wear completely out in no time under the weight and speed of the Cup cars. If you also notice, the laps times are slowed quite a bit, it's very hard for anybody to see worth a damn, it's hard to actually RACE anybody and most NASCAR fans wouldn't sit in the rain to watch it anyway. Sports car fans are generally a different breed. Although it is perhaps possible in technical sense, I don't think it's the kind of show ANYBODY wants to see all that bad.

Yep, it would be as bad as watching a top fuel car in the rain or a funny car in the snow.:)

yeah the 8 to 10 million people watching on TV would be sopping wet.
 
The driver must be able to see beyond the middle of his or her hood.

There are so many varibles that make it impossibile to know.

1. Impossibile to know what a one hour worked in sustained Vortex presented by Coca-Colas family of drivers could have accomplished. It may have walled off the rain or slowed it down.

2. A rain attracting inverted Vortex Vacuum could have actually been created with the red flag.

3. Air Force Ones departure could have horizontally shifted the Vortex.

4. More Ashley Judd Indianspolis rain shirt type moments are needed.
 
Alternate solutions:

1. Pop-Up Vortexs are made to battle the Pop-Up Showers strategically deployed to cancel themselves out.

2. Pre-built NASCAR Air Towers are spread across the Florida landscape to disrupt barometric pressure and make the clouds go away.

3. Organic Bio-Dome that can close over the entirety of Daytona in 3 minutes, all driver's switch over to their high-pitch electric rain backup car.

4. Brian is consulted.

Excellent approach for dealing with the simultaneous multiple Vortex issues that can occour at an RP track.

Lake Loyd may need a greenhouse enclosure to limit humidity.

Reevaluate the rear deck lid spoilers. The extra tall spoilers and downforce could actually be working as Vortex defusers. They probably are creating degrees of negative Vortex and even attracting the rain.
Brian would not have missed a self inflicted technical issue like this one.

Eddie Gossage should trademark the VorTexas brand. The name itself would serve so many future promotional initiatives.

I look back and see how things were done when this sport was a hell of a lot more popular than it is now. It's not a cure all for everything, but it would be a damn good start. Common sense is that the earlier you schedule a race start, the better chance you have to get it completed on the scheduled day, which is a LOT better for EVERYONE involved. It's not rocket science.

You really dont think that they know that? Theres clearly more at play here than taking it at face value. We really have no idea why the race was scheduled for that time.. but there is a reason.

It's done primarily for TV at the expense of people who actually PAID to see the event, and it's done under mostly mistaken impression that later races will draw higher ratings, which has generally not been the case. While it IS true that races that were delayed into prime time on Sunday evening tended to have higher ratings, events that have been scheduled for later starts generally have not, and it puts an unreasonable burden on those that actually attend the event, and increases the chances that you will be racing on Monday afternoon before sparse crowds and and sparse TV ratings, the worst of both worlds.
 
NASCAR for starting the race today at 4pm ET. It being "President's Day" and all I'll be celebrating - I'll likely be toasted by the time they throw the green flag :cheers:

From experience the people who actually run NASCAR have not always made the best decisions. One easy example, NASCAR gives California Speedway Darlington's traditional Labor Day weekend date. How did that work out for them? I am sure a few of us might have thought that wasn't a great idea.

You're right nascar is obviously in great hands with the brain trust that has relegated nascar to an afterthought..

Never heard of #4 until now. Ain't the internet a wonderful thing? Yeah for sure we need more of this in rain delays.
