BREAKING NEWS: DALE JR OUT AT CHARLOTTE

Supercross is some rough sheet.
Broken right arm (3 times), broken collar bone, punctured bladder, two broken ankles, separated clavicle, fractured neck, concussions, 3 knee surgeries (2 on the left knee, one on the right), cosmetic surgery on my lower lip from a face-plant crash, various stitches....had a lot of damn fun with my dad, though.

I had a hernia once. ;)

I think Dale Jr should seriousley think about retireing from racing completely. Concussions never really heal and sometimes you never know what damage has been done until many years later. There's no cure no fix no repair. Dale Jr's still a young man, he has all the money and fame he'll ever need, he can stay in the sport be an owner or something.
I feel this way because it took me almost 15 minutes to type this.

True thoughts there Flash. I'm sure he will hear that from his sister . She looks out for him.

Your post got me thinking. There's been some drivers who have battled concussions and head injuries throughout their careers and none of them with good success. I think if we were talking one concussion I'd say it was crazy for him to do. But we know he had a concussion at Kansas and was still concussed at Talladega when he was re-injured. We also know he suffered one in Fontana in 2002. So the question becomes how many has he had? How susceptible is he to them? I think he'd have to think about his long term future. I would say sitting out the rest of this year may be a good option. His Chase hopes are over and that give him a couple months to recover. If you think about we're only about four months away from 2013 season.

I've been in the hospital more than I've been out since june. My hand eye coordination is gone and its very hard to focus, takes forever to type.

Wow Bobby, you must be on a first name basis with all the nurses at hospital. You are their best customer.:)

I actually don't see why they don't have some kind of concussion test prior to each race weekend where they can tests drivers who were involved in an accident the week before. These concussions have serious effects later in life and while it may be a pain to see top drivers missing a race or two it is a lot better than just telling them to strap a helmet on and drive it off.

As a fan of his I'm afraid that you're probably right. These drivers don't seem to step out of the car for any reason. To do so makes me wonder just how serious it could be. I'm probably a little influenced in my line of thinking by what we've dealt with here in the Pittsburgh market with Sidney Crosby. He's suffered multiple concussions and has had a hard time dealing with the effects. Only Jr. and those close to him know the situation that he's dealing with. If it has gotten to the point where he's having to be concerned about his health long term then it's probably time to step out of the car and take a different role in the sport. :(

The Crosby comparison is a good one . Those who don't follow hockey may not know that he is the Dale Jr. superstar of the sport who has been out with concussions for some time. He has the money to retire , but team and sponsor pressures are keeping him from doing it . The league is on strike right now , but when they return to work , the main story will be Crosby .Hope they make the right decisions.

This has to be a terribly difficult decision for Jr. He has been part of racing his entire life and to even consider retiring as a driver would be hard for him. I would like to see him retire rather than take a big chance on screwing up his life. In good health he probably has 40 - 50 years to live.

There is a long list of guys from Bobby Allison, Steve Park, Ernie Irvan , Ricky Craven , etc ,who are getting by ok but I'd hate to see Junior stay a day too long.

I also think Jr should just take the rest of the season off. Concussions aren't a joke and he should rest up and come back in Feb.

Sounds like a Lindsey Lohan Friday night..

I have said for about 5 years that Jr. should retire from racing. He lost his touch when he figured out he couldn't see AIR like his Dad. I think he would like to retire but his fans would have a shet fit if he did. I believe he is afraid to drive, he is too paranoid and he simply don't get enough rest with all that beer drinking he does since he opened Whisky River.;):)

I don't know, Jr. had a good year this year, he even won (one) race.

My apoligies, I didn't know. Thought you were messing around and besides,my typing skills are very limited.
Please accept my apology and I wish you nothing but the best. hope you can stay clear of hospitals.

Dale Earnhardt Jr. on track for NASCAR return at Martinsville, sister writes in blog post

Dale Earnhardt Jr.'s recovery from multiple concussions is progressing as planned, and the driver could return on schedule at Martinsville Speedway next week, his sister wrote in a Wednesday morning blog post.

"If all goes according to plan, and he continues to improve to 100%, he will test a race car early next week to be cleared for Martinsville," Kelley Earnhardt Miller wrote in a post on JRNation.com.
