I know, it's real name is something else, but it will always be the Brickyard 400 to this purist. LOL

Here's hoping it has some good racing --- and no major tire problems.:beerbang:

Well, that didn't last long ---- *sigh*
This is NOT going to be pretty.

From Jayski

TIRES: NASCAR held a press conference Sunday morning, there will be a competition yellow Sunday after 10 laps [unless a caution comes out sonner], plus they will monitor the tires for other possible competition yellows AND they have Pocono tires on hand if the Indy tires become a problem, but the whole field would have to switch if the Pocono tires are mandated by NASCAR.(SPEED's Raceday)(7-27-2008)
UPDATE: Goodyear trucked in extra shipment of tires Sunday morning for the Allstate 400 at the Brickyard amid complaints about excessive wear during practice Friday and Saturday at Indianapolis Motor Speedway. NASCAR vice president of competition Robin Pemberton said the new shipment of tires, which were intended to be used at Pocono Raceway next week, could be used during the 160-lap, 400-mile race. If needed, the Pocono tires would be implemented unilaterally across the 43-car Sprint Cup Series field. Pemberton said there would be at least two NASCAR-mandated caution flags to check wear during the early stages of the race, with the first occurring on Lap 10.(USA Today)(7-27-2008)

I was at the track for practice and qualifications yesterday. It was cool. I had never been to a NASCAR event until then. It was so hot and humid out there. That could of played a role in the tire situation.

Personally, I think if they make the "competition yellow" rule to check for tire wear, it oughta be mandatory for everyone, where all cars come in, all cars change tires and go back out where they were were running. I mean, isn't it supppoed to be a safety issue?

good point

this is ridiculous, goin to be a boring race if there's a caution every 10-15 laps

2 wreck already and comp. cautions. Your right, this is going to be a long race. Major pit strategy is what its going to be about.

Wow! the tire situation is really bad! This is going to be a memmorable race for all the wrong reasons.

goodyear should be ashamed of themselves.....this is outrageous.

i agree.

cant believe kenseth car. took out the side window, the c pillar, everything but the battery

normally I am not one to gripe......... but good grief........... this is pitiful. and the broadcast booth keep sayin, competition yellow...... It's not a comp yellow if there are PIECES of TIRES and CARS on the track.......... AAAAARGH..... wouldn't want to be a goodyear rep after the race......lol.

nhra stopped qualifying friday to fix their track...lets red flag this thing, get the situation figured out, fix it, and go back green for good

As a driver, I'd be tempted to park my car in a situation like this. The potential for crash/injury is huge. Goodyear messed up big time, no excuse in a professional sport like this.

i agree goodyear should be ashamed of themselvs. they always in the spot light of angry drivers, after this race i think all 43 drivers are gonna be made at goodyear.

I'm not so sure that this is all Goodyear's fault. Remember, there are only 3 cars in a tire test, and there was no open test for everyone at this track. One of the major problems is the new car --- it rolls over so badly on the right side. Plus the grooved track can't help.

And remember the *****ing and moaning when Goodyear brought a hard compound to Atlanta?

No one is winning in this battle. We are all losing.

Agreed. They mentioned crew chiefs questioning why Indy wasn't on the Open Test schedule...still, you'd think they could have prepared better than this. I like the new thread title :D

thanks franna. i think this is closer to the sprint pitstop challenge than a race.
