Bristol Pre-race Race Thread

I was referring to contingency sales as opposed to wins. Jr isn't in a racecar because he's championship material; he's in a car because he sells hats and shirts.

27th on the all times win list and finished in the Top 5 in points 4 times. You're right. He clearly can't drive a race car.

Danica can't do good if she can't qualify above 30 *Daytona was a fluke*
I totally agree. Daytona can be the great equalizer, giving a shot at a good run to those that wouldn't normally have one. Danica turned a hot lap there and started up front, and was able to stay there because passing was so difficult in that race. Talladega will probably be your next chance to see Ms. Patrick in the top half of the field. Her boyfriend is 11th in points right now however, I wonder how that's going over?

Dislike the situation or not, Patrick likely isn't going aywhere but Nascar for a while so as she's been given some of the best equipment with a rich sponsor, it'll be up to her what she does with it - what the fans (for AND against) think have nothing to do with that. If fans had any say in the success of a driver, Eranhardt Jr. would have 13 champioships by now and the Busch bros. would be working in a Mars factory.

But Joe has 20 wins between cup and Nationwide. Do you see Danica ever hitting that mark?
Really , how can you tell after 13 starts ? I've seen so many drivers come into this sport that didn't do a thing but wreck racecars for the first couple of years . I couldn't tell .

I recall her boyfriend tore up some hardware in his N'wide days. She should have spent more time at that level, but it's too early to tell.

I like Danica and I hope she does well. The level of competition today is so very close she is really going to have to step up her game.

JGR is looking like the man with plan right now. How the heck did Kasey get 2nd?

At age 30 and with what I've seen of her career in driving race cars, no. I think that her skills/abilities will have to improve significantly for that to happen. I'm not saying she can't do it but it's a very tall order with what I've seen so far.

Stenhouse had a chip on his shoulder when he was tearing up cars but seemed to have received the message when Roush set him out.

I've said it before. Danica hasn't caused any racing wrecks, and that's good. She does need to stop intentionally wrecking drivers though, but she's talking like it may happen in this race if she gets disrespected.

Danica has no business at the cup level. She is there because of her gender and sponsorship not her driving ability. I knew just as sure I was sitting here that after daytona (mechanics race) that she would show her true colors. She is so out classed at this level its funny to watch.

There was an article in USA Today a couple days ago still shilling for DP and attempting to keep a little mo going from Daytona. They couldn't rave about her last two races so they didn't mention them, just Speedweek and how she's dominating at social media. They even had a quote where her business manager said "We're in an enviable position vs. most of the teams in the garage". And oh yeah the same writer at USA Today followed that the next day with an article asking if she might jump to F1, I'm serious. Her pub machine has a stuck throttle.

During and after Daytona I read all sorts of articles about how anyone who doubted Danica was a "hater" and how they now had to admit that she was an elite NASCAR driver. Now it's just crickets.

I heard someone speculate that Danica was given a doctored restrictor plate to boost her and goose the pre-race chatter. I still don't think they'd be that stupid but the guy who said it is more convinced than ever.

This is such a load of crap. She is a 13 race rookie . High points will be finishing top 30 , low points will be dnf's .Trying to read something into each weeks performance is doing exactly the same thing as the USA Today reporter . Let's wait till she has 100 races under her belt and then give her a hard time.

I knew you had a number, Ted ;)

Danica only get's all this hype because she's a woman.

Let's be real here, she won't compete for the cup for a long while now.

How about 58 in the minor leagues? Her average finish after 4 seasons in Nationwide races is 21st and she got handed a premier ride in the majors. Elliotfan nailed it.

If she ever learns to drive like an elite Nascar driver I'll be happy to eat my words and she'll be the biggest thing on the planet, but right now it's all hype and getting a ride she didn't earn on the track but because of her marketing value.

4 wins in the past 8 years, in top tier equipment.
Only finished in the top 10 in points 5 times in 13 years, in top tier equipment.
Not exactly stellar.

So what would you call a driver who in his first 36 Nationwide races had only 8 lead lap finishes and an average finish of 23rd .

Listen to Allgaier whine. Next time, hold your line dummy. Why the hell should Beuscher check up for you?

sounded like Trevor Bain last week when he took out Larson. Allgaier isn't going to be in the top five, be lucky to be in the top ten. Beusher can out drive him every week he is running Nationwide
