Heres some new history for you.No, it really isn't. DW only drove the 17 for a few years at HMS. He ran the 17 for many years as his own team. Tide went to the 5 when he left. The 5 was the first number for HMS, it had been around for over 30 years. The first HMS win, the first Daytona win, all Bodine's #5. The 5 won a title with Terry in '96. And the 25 was the second number at HMS, while not quite as accomplished as the 5 was still a big part of HMS history. I see no reason to continue the 88 when it was specifically changed for Dale.
I guess I'm just a sucker for history.
The 5/25 has 1 championship to the 24/48 having 11 championships.
IMO the 24 & 48 are far more significant than the 5 or 25.
