Cable cutters, rejoice

Even if I’m subscribed to services such as Disney Plus and peacock, I usually still watch free Youtube instead. I canceled Sling now that the NASCAR season is over. I’m just way too picky with what I watch. Even with a full cable package, I’m more than likely not gonna find anything to watch.

Glad someone found the info useful. We were able to save some $'s as well by selecting the 'Cancel Service' option on a few of the services we use. We were immediately prompted with discount offers to stay. It's the same story every year around this time.
 
Since when does Prime Video have ads?? I never remember them having ads previously, but I resubscribed for a month during the holiday season and have noticed they now have ads, including in the middle of movies. Do they even have a no-ad option??

Select account. Scroll down to "Ad Free". Think it's 2.99 month. I have it.
 
YouTube TV just went up to $85/month or something.

I just canceled. So add me to the list of people who won’t be watching NASCAR next year since only 14 races are streaming.

Quietly as it has been kept, some are reporting that streaming is losing billions in their takeover to eliminate or severely cripple cable TV. Sooner it seems more than later the creepy billionaires are squeezing more money out of the customers. So excuse me if I never have been excited to see one more game rigged for the oligarchs.
BTW, I am not defending cable TV either. That was supposed to be commercial free HBO with an up charge. That didn't last long either.

Cable TV prices are outrageous.

It’s the same forces driving both though. The networks and studios want more and more and more.

I get Max for free, but WBD wants to make everyone pay extra for sports even though they’re going to have less content next year so that’s gonna screw NASCAR fans over.

If Fox and NBC would put all their televised races on streaming also, it would still be cheaper than paying $100-$300 for cable.

I’ve been accepting of a lot of price increases thus far but this might be the nail in the coffin for my subscription as well. When I first joined in late 2019 I think it was $45/month. And all the content and programming I use YTTV for since has remained the exact same, which is almost exclusively live sports.

Last time they went up, I told myself this was the last one I would tolerate. This was it.

I looked at Sling and $55/month is better than $85/month, but it doesn't include local channels here. If I could pick local channels up with an antenna, that'd be fine, but I can't. Even then, I don't think I want to pay $55/month either.

I'm actually so damn close to canceling my home internet because it's gone from $45/month in 2021 to $100/month in 2024 and they're gonna raise prices again soon. My cell signal sucks, but at this point, I'm thinking how much money it would save not having cable, internet and streaming AT ALL. I can buy DVDs for $2 each. Hell, I can probably buy one of those cell signal antenna things and save money.
 
It's pretty simple for me, If I want to watch all of the races, Fox and CW are the ticket. I'll catch what Cup I can. I ain't playin. Flo is a better deal for around 13 bucks a month at this time.
This stuff reminds me of the credit card monte scams. Switch to this card with zero interest...and 6 months later your rate is higher than the card you switched from. I ain't going for it.

I'd love to see enough people will get fed up to have a major impact on the providers but I'm not holding my breathe.

I acknowledge our requirements are minimal compared to other people. I'm content with the app my co-op provider offers as a replacement for the set-top box. It's over $100 less than what Spectrum was charging before we moved. We didn't use premium services so we're not missing what we never saw. Peacock is the only streaming service we've used and I think it's still a bargain.

So overall I'm probably more satisfied than most people.

I can't pick up any local stations with an antenna. CW has the app, and NBC has Peacock which is actually very reasonably priced. And you'd be astonished at how many people in rural areas can't watch TV with an antenna because they are surrounded by trees and forest, live in mountains, or don't live within 30-50 miles of their local stations.

Fox moving the overwhelming majority of their races from Fox to FS1 on cable is the very worst aspect of this TV deal, followed by NBC moving three races off NBC and making them cable exclusive.

Fox and FS1 are available on streaming services like YouTube TV at $85/month ($90/month after taxes) if you don't have cable, lol.

You can't just pay $10-$15/month to watch Fox Sports programming like you can with NBC Sports on Peacock, TNT Sports on Max, CBS Sports on Paramount+, ESPN on ESPN+ and Disney+, and Sports on Prime Video. You can't download an app and watch the races for free like CW. Fox is the only one that does not offer a way to watch their events on streaming.

Fox Sports and NASCAR on USA are THE outliers here. THE outliers in all of professional sports.

Oh, and guess what? The NFL, which is the largest professional sporting league in America by a lightyear, offers a solution to their Fox Sports problem. For $15/month, I can get NFL RedZone, live coverage of local games on Fox and CBS, and live coverage of primetime games.
 
I've been a DirecTV subscriber for a long time. I get what I want (sports wise) while others complain about not getting certain things. But it comes with a price. I'm currently doing a free trial of their streaming service. It's cheaper, especially since they don't have to charge for RSN channels and some other fees. I'm close to switching.

I'm curious if there's a substantial discount for existing AT&T customers.

I am officially at my breaking point and really don't want to spend more than $50 for any of this.

All of my posts have explicitly said as much. NASCAR on USA is THE ONLY sports property NBC has that is not carried on Peacock. THE ONLY ONE.

Because NASCAR negotiated deals that prioritized a dying medium (cable TV) over OTA and streaming because they were in a hurry to get the bag.

When it comes to sports as a whole, Fox is the only one without an OTT presence. If you want to watch a Big Ten game on Fox and can't pick it up with an antenna, you have no choice but to have cable TV.

Fox Sports does NOT have a standalone streaming service. They are the only ones who do not. The only way to access content on the Fox Sports GO app is to have an account with a cable provider or outlets like YouTube TV, Hulu Live, DIRECTV Stream, etc.

You can't just pay $10-$15/month for Fox Sports GO and watch the races like you can with Peacock, TNT Sports on Max, Prime Video, etc.

If you say you can, you're either using a pirate service or you're lying.
 
The cheapest thing I've found is Sling, which is $55/month, but does not have local channels. Since I can't pick those up with an antenna, nothing's changed. I'm not spending this kind of money for this anymore.

Y'all enjoy Clint Bowyer. I'll catch NASCAR when it moves to Prime Video in May.

I see where you are coming from, but again all of these places stream the channel. Hulu and Youtube stream it. I haven't a clue if any of the others here are streaming services, but my point is made. :idunno:

I can't speak to the others but Spectrum requires having an active cable subscription to access their streaming service. At least, it did back in March before I moved and dropped them.
 
I too don’t see a point where enough consumers ditch the services, forcing the companies to lower the price of their services. Pirate services are illegal, but you can’t blame the consumers for watching them when streaming services are as expensive as they are. It’s not simply the pirate sites that are driving up the cost of streaming services. Rather, it’s the continuing rising of prices that are driving people to turn to pirate sites, which then may result in even bigger price hikes for streaming services.

Me personally, live tv services like Sling, Hulu live and Youtube TV don’t even fit in my budget, so I couldn’t subscribe even if I wanted to.

Sure I can. It's stealing, plain and simple. Cadillacs are expensive too, but nobody makes the argument that stealing cars is acceptable and justified. TV isn't a necessity.

That’s my bad. I’ve lived in the city for too long and based on my observations, I have been brainwashed into thinking stealing is in fact acceptable.
