I thought the rule was 6 minutes to fix it on pit road, if you make minimum speed you get another 6 minutes and if you go to the garage with crash damage you're done immediately.

6 minutes on pit road to make minimum speed. After that, as long as you want in the garage. If you go to the garage without having made minimum, you're done.

Careful, some people here will call you crazy if you think you can visibly tell the difference in speed.

To be fair, it’s noticeable how abrasive the track is. Just like Darlington, it gets quite a bit quieter deep into green flag runs
