Yep. Could’ve honestly happened anywhere. Start of the race, cars still would be pretty bunched up anywhere you go. Seen it happen before other places that aren’t the “plate tracks.”

As much as I look to blame plate tracks, I agree with you. The field would still be bunched after 2 laps at any non-plate track on the circuit.

Although the urgency to get to the top line didn't help.

They could do away with todays six or seven inch ground-effects spoiler to minimize the pack race effects.

There have definitely been times at other tracks when a guy has checked up to let his teammate into a preferred grove.
