Cup RACE thread --- Chicago Street

Just saw this on Twitter. The networks really have to look at starting races at 11am central/12pm eastern time like in the past. Theyre all about attracting new fans which is great but how many of those fans are you driving away due to getting trapped into a weather delay or postponement because you start so late?

Bingo. It’s literally common knowledge that instability builds during the day leading to thunderstorms in the afternoon. 1 PM starts can help dodge that for sure

Starting a race at 3 PM on a “track” with no lights and no way to resume tomorrow has to be the stupidest ****** decision I have ever seen from an event management perspective.

Just mind blowing how stupid NASCAR and/or NBC are here.
It’s a novel idea, the execution of it is stupid by starting this late. It’s undeniable the last two years of this has been a circus. Just a colossal letdown

Lord have mercy, I wish I could buy you for what you are worth and sell you what you think you are worth. lol.

If you know you have minimal margin for error, you have to start your event as early as possible. This should start at noon local time.

Is this even worth a Rate the race thread?

To be fair, no. But it'll at least get to halfway, so it'll technically be official. It's just hard to judge the race for what it was while they were actually racing without letting our frustration/disappointment get in the way.

This is the best insult ever lmao I’ve never heard this before ha ha I’m stealing this for real life lmao sorry Naitch, I get along with him but my gosh nothing against you at all ha ha but this made me laugh. I’m also easily amused in your defense

My buzz wore off and now I’m just sleepy and hungry

Agreed. Your window for error is dramatically cut with these late starts imo

I mean…if my worth is determined by my ability to criticize basic event planning mistakes, you might be able to sell me and buy the new $5 McDonald’s meal. Even Forrest Gump can comprehend NASCAR and NBC’s mistakes.

Ah McDonald’s is a sponsor of this race, I see what you did there. I think your main point though is valid imo

One more time: the networks are on record as willing to accept a couple of rainouts each season to get the larger audiences that come with later starts.
Well they’ve had a lot of weather related issues this year

1 hour shootout. Whew. It’s going to be crazy racing

That shot of Navy Pier in the background was way cool

That's correlation, not causation.

It shows that earlier start times aren’t necessarily a hindrance.

In this case, NASCAR designed a race to appeal to the casual fan (a street race in a major city) and has to deliver a subpar product (thus hurting the ability to convert them to actual fans) in order to satisfy the network.

I believe NASCAR should do whatever they can to deliver a full race. The networks are actively pushing NASCAR to deliver a subpar product, which I think hurts the long term growth of the sport.
