Cup RACE thread --- Homestead

It’s been a fun season everyone! The season had its up and down moments but overall I enjoyed this season. Nice to see Logano get it done and it really didn’t matter to me who won today cause in my mind they would have all deserved it. Hope to see some of the new faces that joined this season around next season as well. Until then As You Were

I went to homestead the championship race paid 155 for a ticket.. went to the panthers home game Thursday night against eagles.. tickets was 300 a piece for me and my girl.. that’s more than our trip to homestead and hotel all together..nascar is cheap as hell! sh!t Martinsville have tickets for 40 bucks lol

I'm sure you could have gotten cheaper tickets if you wanted. Jets/Giants tickets near me don't cost that much to get in the building even when the teams are actually good. NHL/NBA and MLB tickets are even less.

Ticket prices at NASCAR aren't the issue. It's the hotel costs if you actually want to go the entire weekend, the hours it takes most and myself just to get to the track and countless other reasons why it's better to just watch from home.

I try to go to 2-3 races a year including my home track of Chicagoland. Tickets arnt that expensive if you leave out the pit pass. What gets you is the hotel rooms, rooms are marked up a bunch. Bulls tickets and white Sox tickets are cheap in Chicago right now. When we go to races except Daytona we try to stay 45-60 min away, it’s all bout being smart when you decide to spend your money. Your post is 100% right.

I had fun conversing with (most) of you this year. Good bunch of ladies and gents on this board, enjoy the offseason everyone. The Rolex 24 and then Speedweeks will be here before you know it.
Just remember there is no off season here at racing forums. There are a lot of rumors to discuss for the next few weeks.:)

Truex is a champion in my eyes. Had a chance to wreck Logano and didn't.

That said, what incentive is there to race clean anymore?
He had a couple chances.. but if you are referring to the final pass I have to disagree because he didn't even get a chance to get close to Joey. Joey completed the pass and pulled away before they were out of the turn. Truex couldn't touch him then even if he wanted to.. not without putting them both in the wall anyway.

We will see ya then! I myself like to take a nascar hiatus. That way the offseason doesnt drag on so much lol.

Gotta give Joey credit, he made sure Truex had no shot at taking him out. That was definitely a power move.Like Joey's off track work.Hard to like on it.
By the way where is Revman? Kyle wasn't in the same zip code.

Logano is controversial but the kid drives with heart and does everything he can to win, even if it means using the chrome horn. Nothing wrong with that IMO. He’s been in position to win the championship a couple of times and he got it done tonight.
He did great. Hated to see Truex let him by, but then again, it was nice that they didn't end up with a controversial wreck settling the outcome of the championship.
Did not see this coming! It's like the actual top four of the season, in reverse order.
All three dominant drivers of each national series ended up last of the final four. Confuzzled.

I hope some reporter has the stones to ask Truex how the war went.

Harvick is still out there in the scrap pile searching for his beloved custom spoiler :(
Great daytime car. Didn't keep up with the track. Stark contrast to the #18 though. Garbage car all day. Choked on pit road all day. Restart 1st and finish last of the bunch anyways? Yikes.

Can’t help but think if Rodney had been on the pit box they could have kept up with the changing track a whole lot better.

Yeah had me questioning a what if Childers had been on the box, would they have had the adjustments for a cooler track. Never know. Interesting Joey said they had a short run car. Was that on purpose, or all they could get out of the car. Sure looked like Pearn had nighttime running dialed in.

Yeah, I watched the race, the 18 was a toad all day and the pit stops were poor.

Todd did say that it usually comes down to a short run at the end of these things. Although I have to assume if they could have put a bit more long run speed into it they would have

I go to 2 or 3 races a year as well and what I find with hotel rooms is if you are OK with driving 75 to 100 miles from your room to the track or vice versa you can get typical/normal rates for a room. I can usually get a night for under $100 or 2 nights for under $200. That's pretty cheap for a decent room imo. If you dont mind roach motelling it you can get rooms for even cheaper than that.

Now if you want to a room that's only 5 minutes from the track then you're going to pay $300+/- a night. That's not gouging that's just how it is. I live and die by the sword in my line of work with the ups and downs of supply and demand. There's no such thing as gouging. If you want that room it's there for $300. Otherwise you can get one for $100 that's a little over an hour from the track.

I didn't need to go nearly that far to get a decent room rate. Complainers are going to come up with just about any excuse but the truth. If you want to go bad enough you can go.

Agreed. Last year when we went to Kentucky we spent right at around $300 for 2 tickets, beer, a trip to Waffle House with a generous tip (our little after race tradition) and a room about 2 hours from the track on the way home. And at Kentucky you cannot bring your own beer (unless you sneak it in - we didn't) so we had to pay $7 for tall boys and we bought several. We had great seats too. If you want to get there cheap and not buy the beer, just go for the race, you can do it. 2 people could get tickets, good seats, and rent headsets for under $200. Now some races we buy tshirts and all kinds of junk and spend nearly a $1,000 but anyone that wants to go do this cheap, it can easily be done....

It really depends on my mood to drive when I went to Kentucky in 14 we stayed in Downtown Louisville about an hour from the track. I paid a little more because it was a vacation. When we go to Daytona I expect to pay higher as well because we stay on Daytona Beach. Like I had said, it all depends on what you want to do with your money

Dropped my trailer at a Kansas truck stop, told them I would be back later that night, I had called the track, they said I could park at the casino. I caught a shuttle, bought a ticket from a scalper cheap, went in and found a large section that looked like corporate seating and sat down close to the start finish. Done. :D I used to do the same thing at Texas. Come back to the truck and fix dinner while the traffic cleared out.

Ready to get this settled on the track.
Open at the green for the final time this season.

So, who’s gonna open the Race Threads next season?

Is TRL just taking a break until Daytona?
