Cup RACE thread ---- Martinsville

Anyone from management in nascar that watched that race and doesn't spend the rest of the night awake thinking of ways to improve the short track package needs to have their head examined

Post race show shills it.

Honestly, NASCAR media, Larry and JMac need to be calling it out as well - put pressure on NASCAR to do something.

I watched the 2010 Martinsville spring race won by Hamlin earlier today during some exercise and if anyone wants to say that this race was comparible, or as competitive, they're lying, shilling, or simply are misremembering.

Faster cars with elite talent behind the wheel can pass a slower car. That's how it should be.

They’ve been out to lunch on ovals since they won Phoenix 2020. When Alan does bring a fast car, he effs it up on pit road. I don’t buy the whole “they’ve been fast!” bit. If they were that fast, they would have contended for at least one win in that stretch.
Willie B stayed composed and was able to maintain P2 until he got the lead. Chase couldn't do the same while running P2 and that absolutely has to be all Alan's fault.

Do you ever give Alan any credit for anything. It all seems like a one sided calculation to me.

Good stuff by Byron.

Not his biggest fan, but he's coming into his own. Best race he's driven in his career. Had the fastest car, did everything right, drove like a champion.

Again, and honestly I've said similar for years to my family, but maybe Kyle Petty was right about him and his future at HMS.

Larry and the rest of the clowns are NASCAR shills. They care about the paychecks. No way they will tell the truth.

I might tune into speedway Monday just to see how Moody tries to defend this one

I think Alan has given him winning cars, especially Martinsville and Phoenix 2020. Chase has had his fair share of chokes, and I think I've been pretty blunt in acknowledging those. Alan's race strategy has been horrid, and they rarely improve a 10th place car into a winning one. Ask the Gordon fans on here, Alan has quite the reputation. Right now I think the problem is a two part one, with Alan and Chase to blame. They're not clicking, and you can hear friction on the radio. It was not that way until later last year. Tonight was the first time I truly heard Chase snap at Alan. And, let's be realistic, if Mr. H let's someone go, it sure as hell won't be Chase. Whether that's right or wrong is up for debate.

Alan could be the best CC in the world...if you can't click with him, he's not your guy. He's not your leader.

Mark Martin was just happy to be there in 09, and, tbh, drove when faster cars could pass and HMS had the field by the balls that year. And without offense to Elliott, Martin was a better, more confident and reliable driver at 50 in 09 than Elliott is today. Martin made Alan look better. Gordon fans didn't like him. Chase made him a champion. Not sure what else he's done.

But Chase needs someone different.

Shifting results in more available / useable torque.

That can’t possibly be a bad thing.

Dale Jr criticizes it in responses, and Kaz more or less jokingly says that he's shilling because he's still trying to have a job in NASCAR.

Look, I get it. But can you honestly, and I mean this kindly, consider just being receptive to how loud the criticism of this race was without just dismissing the complaints?

Watching the race, they basically ran like IndyCars at Gateway. Just way too much speed and control through the corner. Just couldn’t get enough of a run on these short straights

Listening to Joey it actually sounds like there was a pretty significant aero issue as well

Kyle is a bit loony but he's brilliant at evaluating talent. Can't think of any time he has been wrong

A combination of factors led to the type of racing fans saw — or didn’t see. The race featured only four cautions, including two for stage breaks.
With temperatures hovering around 40 degrees during the night race, tire wear was not an issue.

“Anytime it’s below 40 degrees I’d say, the tires don’t even lay rubber,” Byron said. “That was definitely a factor all night.”

Ryan Blaney said after finishing fourth that more work can be done with the tires.

“The left sides just don’t wear on this car,” he said. “That’s just kind of how it is, so I know they’ve been playing around with softer lefts and things like that, so go for it. I mean, go way softer, especially on the lefts and see where it gets you.”

“It just seemed, at least from my point of view, that the cars would actually get a little bit aero tight in the corner,” Custer told NBC Sports. “When you’re back in traffic, it just made it so you couldn’t get to the guy’s bumper and really do what you need to do. Everybody’s cars were pretty equal, honestly, too, and no rubber got put down.”

So funny…when they win it’s the driver….when they lose, it’s the CC…🙄. Sound like Kyle Bush fans and driver…🙄
For the record, I'm the loner still defending AG lol.

Nobody knows the context of Chase's comments last night. As much as everyone in here was calling the race trash due to how hard it was to pass I have a feeling that was more his frustration than anything else, the guy is usually able to have his way there when he has a car that quick. But you lose 1 spot on pit road and that's your race? Nah.

The slow stop was because the right front was getting hung up when pulling the wheel off. Happened more than once. They lost a spot to KB late in the race on pit road because of it too. That isn't Alan's fault.

As far as pitting him and giving up track position, again, you couldn't pass. They weren't going to win where they were, it was obvious. He was clearly hoping more would come with them or that the tires would make a difference to be able to pass. It didn't work. If it does he looks like a genius.

A grounded CE fan….yes, you are a rarity! 😉

Attended the race so a few thoughts here…

1) Move this to May and switch with Darlington for dates. Saturday night before Mothers Day is far better weather than this. We’ve seen snow before at this date and I noticed there were hardly even leaves on the trees there. Clearly these tires/cars are not built for the cold

2) Need to run F1 “super soft” tire compounds here or even a pure bias ply tire. They have a ton of brake and not THAT much speed considering the weight of the vehicle

3) Part of this is on the drivers. They clearly were not looking to mix it up and it showed. I’m shocked everyone tried racing so cleanly, these things can take a beating so move em out of the damn way. Drivers were extremely conservative last night

4) Passing seemed impossible clean unless the speed advantage was massive. Chase could not pass anyone in traffic. Racing was very parade like

I attended a race at Loudon a few years back and it was the same deal. Reminded of a gentleman's sports car race.

The way some drivers talked there was an aero issue that they couldn't even get up to other drivers to mix it up
