Cup RACE thread --- Phoenix

That was some pretty detailed cooling info on Junior and the other drivers. Sr. would have said - "stick and ice cube up yer ___ and let's go racing" ;)

If stage racing caused the great finish in segment 1, what role did it play in this blowout? Could it be the stages sometimes coincide with good battles and sometimes don't?!
Think Chase's car is that good. Larson was only behind Logano like a second the whole 1st segment

They should have kept the pits closed on the last caution, inverted the first five then put 'em behind all the lead lap cars for the restart.

That would have been AWESOME!

Broken track bar adjuster on the 21.

Aaaaaand there it is

If they want to sell these guys as athletes (which they do) they really should limit the driver blowers. You don't see football players with air conditioning in their helmets. I understand the the Carbon Monoxide concerns, but these go beyond that.

Football players have giant fans blowing water and oxygen tanks on The sidelines. It's also never 140* F on a football field

How about no. Thats beyond stupid.

STICK AND BALL ALERT

You don't see football players keeping their helmets on for the entire game. You don't see football players playing in closed-face helmets. You don't see football players PLAYING the entire game.

More reasons why it's pointless to compare racing with other sports.

When I played high school ball on hot days when we would get to the sidelines and the trainers would be handing out rags soaked in ice water. It was a good relief for about 15 seconds then it felt like you were in a sauna.

Driver survived for the first fifty years of this sport without massive blowers. The ostensibly better conditioning of the drivers today should help them overcome the heat. I like things that make the driver play a bigger role. Again, do what is needed for carbon monoxide. Everything is else is just about comfort.

Last time I checked, football players don't play in 140 degree race cars.

$2 says we're gonna hearing cryle bitching about the 24 on that restart

You may have a point, but you lost all credibility when you made the football comparison.

For 50 years drivers didnt have the safety they have today, which causes much of the increased heat in the cars. Read a book.

OK, let's not continue the eternal struggle between "stick/ball" and "racing". Please.

All I know, the inside of those cars are HOT. As a driver, I'd want all the stuff available to keep me reasonably cool.
I've never heard of anyone smashing out the windows of a football stadium because someone locked a football player inside ....

So I guess we oughta just chuck the whole thing and go back to this.

Haha...I remember those August High School football practices when they kept a garden hose on the field - we would run a lap or so and then everybody would go for the hose. Coach would yell but we had him outnumbered.

None of us got scholarships but we didn't get heat stroke either :D

For those not watchin’ the leader board, Almirola has just overtaken Bayne for 25th!
