I also wonder if it will motivate him even more not to settle. Or if they aren't already and if possible to challenge the points format even more when they go to trial etc, or even use it to negotiate. I realize that's more on the lawyers, but some extra motivation for him.

He's probably busy for a few days holding a spare crying towel outside their hauler watching from a distance in case it's needed.
 
All the Denny fans that think the system screwed him just remember its the same system that granted him a waiver to even be in the running for the championship in the 1st place

They DID, BUT, under a reasonable point system, neither the 11 or the 19 are probably in position to win anyway, so there is that. I think what happened yesterday just highlights the absurdity of the playoff format. As you all know, I am not a fan of Denny the driver, but I think only a soulless bastard wouldn't have empathy for his situation and how it all played out. I think the compelling moment of the whole weekend was Denny sitting in the car after the race ended. If you couldn't feel his pain, you're dead inside.

Yup, I was thinking that looking at other pics of him from yesterday. He’s been my favorite driver since I was in 3rd grade….I turn 41 on Saturday. Time is a mf’er

I am definitely no Denny fan, but I don't blame anyone except Nascar for there lame drama creating "overtime" finishes. I have hated it since I saw the first guy dominate a race only to have it yanked away because of the gimmick and it has happened many many times since including to my guy Kyle Larson a lot. Now it destroyed a 20 year veterans chance at his first Cup.

For decades if the caution came out with a handful of laps left, that was it. The race ended under caution with no manufactured drama. But no, Nascar has to try and compete with stick and ball sports and use terms like "call an audible", "out of bounds", "overtime" and even "playoffs". It's absurd.

I am old enough to remember when NASCAR instituted the Green White Checkered rule in response to fans bitching about races ending under caution. I seem to recall people throwing seat cushions onto the track at Daytona after the Pepsi 400 ended under caution one year.

Denny and his crew chief screwed Denny. Four tires was obviously the wrong call, especially with Larson taking two. Denny didn't get a good enough restart to make up for the strategy call.
 
Just watched it. It was much better seeing it than hearing about it. You want to play the villain/douchbag then play the sympathy card, you get none from me. He got the villain’s just desserts.

Watching the replay of the last few laps it would be nice to see the SMT data from the 48. Maybe the #5 was that much faster but it looked like he just got out of it to give the #5 the outside. To me that move won Kyle the championship

Regarding who would have taken the championship if a method from previous years had been used this year, this post says it all.

If some other way to chose a champion had been in effect, even something seemingly insignificant, does anyone really believe that each and every race would have played out exactly the same way ?

I'm told that it's sometimes referred to as the "butterfly effect." 🦋

MY Toyotas won five of ten Playoff races, and it should have been 7. As an OEM-centric fan, I am pretty damn proud of that. When you bring your best, WE were the best.....
