Cup RACE thread --- Phoenix

Regarding who would have taken the championship if a method from previous years had been used this year, this post says it all.

If some other way to chose a champion had been in effect, even something seemingly insignificant, does anyone really believe that each and every race would have played out exactly the same way ?

I'm told that it's sometimes referred to as the "butterfly effect." 🦋
Some of them yeah. Especially in Xfinity. I find it hard to believe Connor wouldn't have kicked the ass he did no matter the format. Cup, you can say yeah since it was close, might have.

I can attest from personal experience that the races you lose by your own mistakes are the ones that haunt you for a long, long time. When circumstances beyond your control crop up and steal a well-deserved victory... those are the ones that fade away over time. Everybody loses races that way. It's just part of it. But when you throw away the opportunity to win, well, you never really forget those mistakes. And that is what Denny Hamlin will have to live with concerning Phoenix 2025.

He could have stayed out and done what Brad Kesekowski did. He could have taken two tires and still beat the 5 car to the finish line and the championship. Taking four tires and giving up track position with just two miles to go was absolutely the wrong decision. A self-inflicted loss of the big trophy, yet again in 2025. It makes me wonder if Hamlin has what it takes to be cup series champion.

He might get another chance, or he might not. But he'll never completely get over this one, of that I'm certain.
Watching it unfold last week I thought four tires was the right call.
With Heim's restart in mind, I wouldn't have done anything different. Four tires would've worked if so many others hadn't taken two.

That's what really surprised me. Those who were outside the Top 10 might as well have stayed out.

Landon Cassill said on the Money Lap podcast that he talked to somebody on the 11 team, and that they had somebody down by the 5 team box to see what they were going to do on that last stop. Somehow the message never made it back to the 11 team what the 5 did with tires over their radio.
