Cup "rainy" RACE thread --- COTA

One of the worst things you can do on the highway is stop, even if its in the emergency lane. If you can’t drive in a storm, you really shouldn’t be driving at all. Go in the slow lane and be vigilant, but don’t make yourself a sitting target by someone who isn’t paying attention or who has lost control.
Highways have exits. Find a McDonald's. Not an option for these guys.

I had no idea that a lot of this boards members have never driven a car in heavy rain on the interstate. Never pulled off and set out a downpour because they couldn't see. Just really surprised.
I have literally drove millions of miles and have never pulled off to set out a downpour.

Right!
We have the world famous dust storms here, and every year the state/media remind everyone if you get caught in one, DO NOT PULL OVER TO THE SIDE OF THE ROAD, and if you do, don't put your hazard lights on, but to just drive slow and cautious.

Well something amazing is going to have to happened by the end of this to get the bad taste out of fans mouths from this ****show

I have pulled off in Florida.. a hell of a time getting back in.

Reconisecence laps I think would be a massive help.

Use the pace car to find out of visibility is good enough to go out. If the track is too wet, etc. Limits can be found quickly, even with street performance cars. That would be a massive step to be prepared for racing in the rain.

This is why F1 is able to find out if a track is safe enough to go out in the rain with these laps.

You know the drivers in the last wreck have got to be livid right now. NOW they decide to dry the track and clean windshields and give a visibility advantage to the drivers that have survived so far?

This is NASCAR just making **** up as they go. These safety protocols should have been figured out before the race started, rain has been there all weekend and predicted all week long. Make it fair for the entire race.

The leader isn't the problem. It's 10 cars back that can't see. This isn't even remotely hard to understand. Ghoulish. Let's see who survives!

Check the track surface on non-race weekends. It shouldn't take long to find the worst spots. Drop a couple of sensors on the shoulder in those areas. When they report a certain amount of moisture, throw the rag.

Today’s cluster almost makes me miss the All Star Race which is the race that traditionally took place on this weekend

Ok, lets shut it down! Ok guys, put them in the trailer!! You NASCAR drivers are novices and shouldnt be in the top line of the sport!

Single file restarts......let's just make things up again as we go along

This wouldn’t have been so bad if the rain wasn’t so bad. I hope the track stays for many seasons to come.

I think today’s experience can also be canned
NASCAR has found out the absolute limit of these cars in these conditions.

They have to make changes with the car in the future, if they decide to come back here. I like COTA for the series, but I think the next car will be a better fit here.

So which is worse this or the indy tire debacle?

I said this before the race. No way should they try to race thru a tropical rainstorm. Just dumb

Why do you think the next gen car will be better here?
