cup / road america next yr.....put sonoma in chase ?

I haven't gone back to read all of the posts and I am kind of suspect of Mulhern stories but where is this date coming from? Who's losing their weekend?

Oh, I'm sure it's being "discussed". A lot of things are being "discussed". I'm sure they've "discussed" moving the finale to Daytona and running at Bowman Gray Stadium before as well.

Article says Dover would lose a date. Personally, I think either Dover or Richmond will lose a date on the schedule in the future if/when NASCAR has Sprint Cup visit a new venue - but not next year.

Moving the finale is something that should've been done years ago. Homestead's cool because of it's proximity to Miami but the only way the fans will support that race is if they play a Miami Heat basketball game in the infield during the race. Phoenix would be an awesome finale.

If Darlington wanted to move back to Labor Day Weekend, it would've happened by now. Unless the track changed their mind recently. The experiment to move the race to the left coast failed and they made the right move giving Atlanta the Labor Day Weekend race. Darlington Raceway likes the Mother's Day date though. The weather is better all around. Unless they've decided that having a night race on Labor Day Weekend takes care of all their hot weather woes - and I doubt that did alleviate their concerns because it's brutally hot in South Carolina in the summer.

not ta get in tha weeds on this.....but all contracts are basically "perform fer consideration" docs.
nascar has "performance clauses" in new fox/nbc $8.2 billion / 10 yr contract......startin 2015.
as well as current contract.

"you'll get us x,xxx,xxx viewers tuned in....fer $$$ ....average....per race" or....contract is void.

bruton / france tracks are a forest........dover / pocono....2 trees.

nascar's gotta keep puttin out new soprano shows.....that people watch. ....or party's over.

the way they are shifting the programming around, I think Nascar has a case if there is ever a dispute. Kinda race only right now on FS1, and the programming before and after is a joke if you are a race fan. Espn isn't much better, you have to wait on podunk u vs. nobody tech to get thru with their game. Taking timeouts when they are down three touchdowns. with 5 minutes to go. funny stuff. But the article has good merit in my opinion, you want to continue to build interest and even if you don't do anything, it keeps the fans involved and also show they are talking about tracks that fans want to watch a race on.

This college football analogy is a bad analogy. NASCAR on NBC will easily be the premier sports programming on NBCSN when the contract goes in to affect... unlike current deal with ESPN.

And, as it stands, if NASCAR wants someone else on board for next year, that can happen tomorrow if people bring money to the party. ESPN and TNT want out of their current deal.

soi.....dispute would be in new 2015 contracts...not these.
only major $$ contract fox has w/ nascar now is trucks on fs1.
practice / q / raceday /etc is filler stuff......an attempt ta get viewers ta demand fs2 from providers...
..at premium level in most cases. ....since fs1 went basic level...like espn.

fans involved ! very major component. mulhern article may be trial baloon ?

Matters to the tracks - that's about it. Doesn't matter to NASCAR anymore though.

disagree. why ya think daytona is gettin makeover ? fewer seats / etc

nuthin worse on live tv than a sparse crowd w/ no energy. tv shots next yr at daytona will show fans havin fun.
race may be snoozer......but ....

Exactly. To please television cameras.

I'm not convinced that this is the case. I believe that the ratings would come into play when the next contract is signed but not in the middle of its run.

I doubt that's the case as well. I'm pretty sure NBCSN's pretty happy with what they've got. Even if ratings drop in half (which is doubtful), it's still NBCSN's premier program.

And if Hawg's saying NASCAR put it in (I'm not fluent in hawgese), I seriously doubt Fox or NBC would sign a deal saying they're obligated to bring viewers in to the sport.

I've reached out to a couple tv people and several media members that covered this back when the contracts were announced to see what their thoughts on this were. I'll post what I find.

Current NBCSN sporting events:

NHL hockey (All of Canada and six Americans watch this)
Barclay's Premier League (All of Europe, Mexico and 12 Americans watch this)
Formula 1 (All of Europe, Asia, South America and 10 Americans watch this)
IndyCar (three people watch this)
Ivy League football (the 1% watches this)

I think NBCSN's pretty happy with the millions of NASCAR fans who will watch their channel each week.

There's six of us now watching the NHL? I'd better by more beer then. Thanks for the head's up.

I sent the following to Pete Pistone. If you have to ask who he is then you're a little out of touch with the sport. He covered the contract story when that news broke a little while back. I asked others as well but have not gotten a response back yet although it is early.

@PPistone Hope you can answer. Is there anything in the new tv contract that would void it if ratings decrease or is the money guaranteed?

response

no - like all sports TV rights fees are guaranteed

nascar "performs"......fox/nbc provides "consideration". basic legal contract language.

nuthin is guaranteed........else why a contract ?

if nascar performs per tha contract.....then yes ....consideration ....$$.....is due.

"performance clauses" might include moral..ethics clauses.....etc. ie---cheatin .

Since it doesn't look like the chase will ever go away, I would love to see the schedle more diversified, starting with a new road course. If the rumors are true and this happens, I will be very happy.

I'm not sure COTA in Austin is doable though. The turns are very tight at that track.

Good example... just happened. with NAPA/MVR. Lost Nationwide yesterday and NAPA today. I think NASCAR has a case with Fox for lost programming if that wasn't spelled out in the contract. I think more sponsors will pull out ASAP because of lost TV audiences.

IF Fox exited NASCAR, NBC would be more than glad to step in.

nascar is grinnin ear-ta-ear w/ new 8.2 billion/10 yr contract...startin '15. no reason fer legal action now / '14.
an fox/nbc expect ta have household count way up by '15 too.

i'm bettin france got so ****y w/ 8.2 fox/nbc deal.......they upped 2nd tier namin rights '15 forward by 50-100 %. ?
so nationwide lookin at $12-16 mill vs 8 now. ??
an....how many times ya gotta hear "nationwide" series before that marketin angle is saturated. ?

plus....note how many cup guys in nns made sure ta super thank nationwide in post race interviews this yr. bet their cup car maybe sponsor deal has been shopped around all yr ?

that is pretty far out there from my way of thinking. camping world is looking to pull out after this year, said publicly they were going to see what happened with the Fox and no speed tv anymore, going to see if they got shuffled to the bottom of the barrel...well they did. bunch on here didn't watch too much speed aparently, I did, and sponsors got a lot of free exposure all day and night long with all the numerous Nascar and racing news shows highlighting teams sponsors and drivers. No reason to keep paying big money and loose exposure..Only way to prove that is to see if more sponsors jump ship. Two big ones in two days so far.

same w/ truck series. lemonis had good 6 yr run as cw series sponsor. now he thinks he's trump. ha!

speed had trucks.....still do as fs1.....but now its basic tier...like espn......an fs2 is premium.
no fewer households.....prolly added sum ?
only diff.....other sports....vs goofy crap shows speed ran last few yrs.

bet france raised truck series namin rights cost too ?

yeah you can tell you didn't watch Speed, so you really don't know what I am talking about. And also FS1 isn't basic tier, and fs2 is non existent many places. So I can see where you would think that, but like I say, hide and watch, the end of the season is near, and I am predicting that many sponsors are leaving. Two down and counting. Going to be watching what NAPA does, Nationwide is pretty much gone, and camping world doesn't sound like they are returning. 5 hour energy? they are making noise as I post, reviewing at the end of the year.

??? speed ---ch 732 on comcast. paid premium ta get it.........yrs.....is now fs1 !
fs1 is basic now...like espn.....BUT....fs2....ch 740 ..w/ practice..q..etc is now premium .
same tune...same cost.....diff band.

yes in your world it is so. not everywhere else. bottom line... anyway you want to slice it..reduced coverage. loss of sponsor exposure. Here is the coverage that is either completely missing, significantly reduced or on only once a day Can't say for sure it is all gone, hoping for some that have already been run this year to return next year somewhere. But is is gone from SPEED at this point.
Totally NASCAR
Trackside
NASCAR RaceDay
NASCAR Victory Lane
WindTunnel with Dave Despain,
Rolex Sports Car Series
24 Hours of Daytona
American Le Mans Series
Formula One World Championship

minimizing my good man. good try. rollex for instance has some races shuffled to FS2 like I said coverage significantly reduced, jack all ya want FS2 doesn't have the TV exposure that SPEED had. And shows you say B.S. too, no TV exposure. I am done proving my point. Enjoy your dish and especially the bill after their cut rate deal expires and the PITA they are when it is cloudy and snows and they ice up. oh I forgot you probably live in sunny cal..guess I need to move there for coverage. :)

ha! bs ? shoulda figured yo azz as a trackside fan ! glad i finally know one !
no dish.....as i said earlier...comcast.......

yeah comcast, never head of it around here, thought it was a dish, have two of the relentless dish rip offs around here and rural cable which I have because I can get a people on the phone that are only about 10 miles away..they are much better to work with because of that. despite your obvious not watching speed viewing habits, it has better ratings with all the junk you think it had, than the latest rip off..Hard to advertise Napa car parts, performance tires and fishing and camping equipment on a talking heads sports show when they are selling tennis shoes and bats n balls.

Totally NASCAR is essentially NASCAR Race Hub now and runs an hour each day on FS1
