Interesting interview. Always kinda thought she has jumped from one relationship with one man to another too quick. She also said Aaron Rodgers pays for dinners etc. I guess Ricky was cheap.
She comes across as really bitter. It also struck me that NOTHING was ever her fault. From Formula Fords up to Cup, it was always “someone not believing in her enough” or “not giving her as good a car.” Her ex husband was to blame for every failure in their marriage and family. It goes on and on. The only time I almost felt sorry for her was about her father. He seemed to me to be a “little league dad” pushing her to race and putting too much pressure on her. She almost said that but then went out of her way to explain that he didn’t, which seemed to be overcompensating a bit.
The whole “I could’ve won a bunch with Andretti except for team orders” was also hilarious. Like her winning a bunch wouldn’t have been encouraged for the boon of media and coverage it would have generated...
It’s a solid interview and this is why I like Bensinger. You get the see and hear sides from athletes that other journalists fail to bring to light. His interview with Dale Jr. was just as fun.
Narcissism. I like the part where she said Aaron called to tell her "good race." I guess he doesn't understand racing.
The Dale Jr one was phenomenal. Dale genuinely opened up about some wounds due to his “relationship” growing up with Sr. If you haven’t heard it, check out Jr on The Joe Rogan Experience as well.
This one had that type of potential for Danica to open up and be real, but as Rev said, her narcissism is simply too strong and it was yet another bitter bitching session. Her appearance, coincidentally, on Joe Rogan’s Podcast was even worse than this one. At least she admitted there that she didn’t know crap about the cars and really didn’t give a flip to try and learn. But, hey, it wasn’t her fault because SHR wouldn’t give her good cars.
Especially with the pressure of her father. Going to school to become a clinician, I have mild experience with disorders/diagnosing and can recognize features/traits of some. She is absolutely narcissistic, the inflated reaction formed self worth shows that..but the shifting relationships, always shifting blame, the mood swings etc , she honestly seems a bit like a high functioning, very high functioning borderline personality. Probably not diagnosable, but she definitely has the features. She's a bit much

Thank you to everyone that watched this and posted about it. You saved me the pain of watching it.
I didn’t watch either as she cannot take any responsibility for her shortcomings and listening to her speak is like nails on chalkboard.
I used to like her in Indy Car, I thought she had some talent. I rooted for her to win that Indy 500 she almost won but each time she spoke she became a bit More unlikable each time. Someone said the same interview with Dale Jr was phenomenal and it was we learned a lot about his relationship with his dad and what made Jr himself tick. Every time I take the time to listen to a Danica interview, her failures are someone else’s fault and she always deflects blame. The part where she blames SHR for jettisoning her for a paid driver.... paid or not that moved proved to be the right one look at what Aric did this year compared to what she did her time in the car.
Danica has truly showed her colors after retiring. Its a shame because I think if she stayed in IndyCar with the new cars, she would have been very competitive. I enjoyed watching her drive, but her bitterness really is frustrating to see. Did she forget she was a pay driver as well? Go Daddy and to a lesser extent Nature's Bakery were the only reasons why she was still in NASCAR. Seeing how Billy Scott performed with Kurt Busch and how Aric performed in the 10 car pretty much said it all at the end of the day.
With this interview, I'm truly happy she's gone. I'd never thought I'd say that about Danica.
Pot, meet the kettle.
I'm not going to listen to it, but that is the funniest thing I've read today.
You guys are harsh. Look I think the hauler driver could have done better in the race car but I thought the interview was cool.
Sure brings back memories of the old times when we bashed Danica each week. It's good to see we can still have some fun .
I cheered Danica on the first 2 years or so, then her act became tiresome, she was all about Danica, always blaming other people for her short comings. After awhile that becomes old, her and Rodgers are a good fit, two narcistic individuals, hope they have a good run.
Followed up with it might be a year between calls.....
I have never appreciated Danica's presence in this sport. I don't like the driver-centric nature of NASCAR promotion, and I don't like "storylines" when the racing is the only storyline you need. All Danica was was a driver and a storyline. Enough said....and BTW.... relationship advice from her? That's funny.
Were being harsh now because she's just being outrageous and the blame game at this point is pointless. Nothing wrong with being honest, but everyone that has had Danica has tried to help her in every facet possible. She just couldn't execute.
She wasn't good, but we live in a world where this is not tolerable. Simply put, an intelligent (which she is) woman (which she is) simply has to succeed in this male driver good ole boy sport (which it is). The "storyline" was there. She couldn't execute, and now we are left with the last remnants of justification, but in this media driven world....the storyline has to work. It just has to. So, we turn to the it would have worked, but she got screwed angle. So much so, she is going to take down the personal relationship (which I couldn't give a sh!t about)....because if the only storyline is the personal piece....and that didn't work out...well, we have to make this storyline work. It. Has. To. Work.
I thought the interview was interesting, because even if you don't accept Danica's version of certain events, it does give you some perspective on where she was coming from and her state of mind, right or wrong. The story about her not having any friends from her time in Europe was interesting to me. Whether that was her fault or not, you can see how the experience changed her and her outlook and demeanor. Interesting comments about firing her parents. Basically the exact same story for the exact same reasons as Jeff Gordon. To be fair to Danica, do we beat Jeff up for firing HIS parents and blaming it on his manipulative ex-wife? As far as SHR goes, I think they DID give up on her. I'm not saying it wasn't justified, but I DO think they they flat out quit on her towards the end. I think the loss of sponsorship was just the a convenient way to bring an end to the Danica experiment. Most certainly the right move from a competition sense, but lets call a spade a spade.
This. Well said, and fair.
I think the lesson learned out of the Danica phenomena is that the public longs for females in the sport. Danica was able to get a whole bunch of Go Daddy money behind her and get on the fast track to a cup ride. She had a huge bunch of fans, but top level Cup will show the talent skill level really quick. She made a huge chunk of change racing in cup. I don't like the blame game she is using. It isn't the truth. But I never took her seriously in the first place so it is no surprise. Lesson learned? I think the next female that tries to break into the cup level will have to be a really good race car driver and not just a pretty girl in a racing suit.
So where are these women? Danica set that movement back rather than helping it, maybe at the local level there a few who rock, but at the national level I don't think any Cup team will take that chance again and get burned. Money and sponsors are a precious commodity now, to take a chance on a female would be a risk that a Cup team isn't willing to take.
Not trolling here, but you follow a driver that has created more driver-centric events than any driver in recent history and that is a fact. I happen to think that part is good for the sport. Logano seems to be doing his fair share recently judging by the boos he gets. Parallels D.W. Earnhardt, and Wallace to a certain extent. Big difference between all them and Danica, her's were mostly when she ran into somebody, or wrecked herself.
Nascar ratings and attendance have plummeted since DP was shunned but I will leave it to others to determine potential linkage.
As long as pay to play is in force the potential for more DP’s is alive and well. Fortunately most ride buyers are rolling chicanes and essentially field filler.
yep Danica is responsible. Broke Eastman kodak last time I heard.
I bet if you asked DP if her leaving the series caused the worst television ratings and poorest attendance in 20 years she would agree. Hang onto that Eastman-Kodak nugget as it will be valuable in the future
Where were all the women before she came in to the picture? I don't think she set the movement back at all. What chances was the team taking on her? She was the one bringing the money allowing them to run that car...just like Almirola is now. I don't ever remember seeing that car sponsored by Haas or Stewart while looking for a sponsorship deal like they did with Kurt Busch. When the sponsors were gone then she was gone.
yep. I believe Guthrie was the last one that raced in cup 70's 80's? She was pretty good, but again lost sponsorship. I believe young Deegan if she doesn't get derailed is somebody to watch.
What did she do for that 10 team, other than run mid pack? Almirola showed what a real driver can do.
Never make it to Cup, in fact I'll go out on a limb here and say in the next 10 years you won't see another woman in Cup, if it even lasts that long.
She didn't have enough talent...period.
You pay way more attention to those driver-centric things about my driver than I ever have. I will give you some leash on the parallels with Danica on that. Here's where Kyle Busch deviates....He wins. A lot. You pay attention to the drama stuff, and I focus more on what he is doing on the track. I also don't think that you can look at the drama in isolation of the performance. Danica = Drama/No performance. Kyle Busch Drama (Kind of)/Tremendous performance. Honestly, I feel dirty even responding to a reply that includes DW, Earnhardt, Wallace, and KB in the same paragraph as Danica, but you said you weren't trolling....and because you said it, it must be true, right?
The car made Almirola.....and that fancy spoiler.
Almirola drove like a driver who knew how to drive a Cup car.
He drove like a driver who had a car NASCAR/OSS handed to him, and then added a trick spoiler for good luck. Mid pack. That's it.
The post you made and the post I made had nothing to do with talent or who was the best driver, it doesn't take a calculator to figure out that Almirola is a better Cup driver then Danica. I already said this in the previous post but I will say it again just to answer your question...she brought the money which allowed them to have a team.
eh 5th right behind your darling boy spoiler really helped
