Daytona 500 qualifying

Next up, FOX Sports will run a documentary about how Austin's just like Dale Earnhardt, working a job in some mill and rolling coins to get to the track each week while working on his own car until 2am each night.

:D Some of you will get it.

:XXROFL:

I'm not sure when Chase Elliott will be moving up to Cup, but when he does, I bet he "miraculously" wins the pole for the Daytona 500 too.

I want to question how convienent this just happens to be for nascar but it is what it is, I'll be happy with the attention nascar will get for it next sunday. At least he doesnt have his cowboy hat today! :D

Hmmm... has there ever been two years in a row that a rookie took the pole for the 500? .. and juuust happened to be a new big name coming to NASCAR? Seriously.. has this ever happened. I have my doubts about the legitimacy of it.. but I think just like last year the pole sitter probably won't lead the first.. or last lap.

Well.. 7 Fords in the top 15.. fastest JGR car 17th and not many Hendrick engines near the front. Looks like it went from HMS/TRD to Roush-Yates/ECR... Can't say I hate that... Hendrick and TRD's raw power last season in single cars runs seemed to set the tone for the season. Hopefully this does the same.

Well that's a bonus.

Have the Ford's changed their grills at all this year...anyone?
Yes, they did.
From Jayski...
Ford Racing dicusses new Ford nose: NASCAR got the 2014 season underway in earnest Thursday at Daytona International Speedway with the annual preseason testing. While mother nature delayed the start of the day, Ford Racing caught up with NASCAR program manager Pat DiMarco and Ford Racing aerodynamcist Bernie Marcus to discuss changes to the Fusion race car and how the new NASCAR rules package affects the Ford cars for 2014.
PAT DIMARCO, Ford Racing NASCAR Program Manager - CAN YOU EXPLAIN WHAT THE CHANGE IS TO THE FRONT NOSE OF THE FUSION FOR 2014?
"There were concerns in 2013 about debris collection on the lower radiator inlet on the Fusion. We have addressed that by moving the radiator screen out to be more flush with the bumper. There is no performance advantage which has been verified in the wind tunnel with the other OEMs. This is purely for debris collection and to eliminate the need to pit in case we have a hot dog wrapper or something on the grille and it makes it easier to get the debris off from behind another car."
WERE YOU ABLE TO QUANTIFY HOW MANY TIMES THAT WAS AN ISSUE LAST YEAR? "We never lost a race or lost positions on the racetrack because of it. We did have a harder time and there were concerns at points but just from a pure safety factor to be 100-percent sure that we dont get into that situation since these cars will live on for awhile we addressed it early on with NASCAR and the other OEMs and it is a non-issue."
TO BE CLEAR, THIS HAS NOTHING TO DO WITH THE COSMETIC LOOK OF THE FUSION GRILLE?
"The grille bars on the car are staying identical to what they were in 2013. It is only the lower inlet which is the dark black area on the car which will be flushed out. To the average Joe sitting and watching, they wont even really be able to tell on TV what has changed."
BERNIE MARCUS, Ford Racing Aero Specialist FROM AN AERO PERSPECTIVE, WHAT DOES THIS CHANGE DO TO THE CAR?
"Nothing. It was purely done for debris purposes and the aero numbers did not change. Nothing on the aero side changed by doing this."(see the full PR at FordRacing.com)(1-10-2104)

Great, thanks for that Bud!

The conspiracy theorists crack me up.
As if nascar would ever do anything to manipulate the outcome of something for dramatic affect.

Thanks Sliced
I'm thinking this new grill is a positive move.
Me too.. They're definitely faster in comparison to the rest of the field than last year.. and apparently the new rules for the intermediate tracks will make the cars faster through the center of the turn so I'm hoping that Ford horse power comes into play there too.

RCR got the Danica plate the day after the Dillon/number 3 announcement.

They should start calling this the CashCow Pole qualifying day at Daytona.
Did the entire engine department get them? Truex Jr. isn't even in a full-fledged RCR car and almost won the pole.
