Daytona 500 --- RACE thread

What do they gain from this? Track position at Daytona is all but meaningless, and they'll have to pit again at the end of the stage
The idea is to be at the front after everybody else stops. It worked for the 18 in the first segment.

Points are not meaningless.

The stage setup has potential but 7 laps of caution is TOTALLY UNACCEPTABLE! No reason to stop the racing for that amount of time. Better get this right or more fans will LEAVE!

They need to update how many laps are left in the race along with segment laps for the casual viewer imo. They seem to ignore the overall race length.

...Mike Joy finally gave an overall lap update...

NBC frontloads. FOX has a tendency to stay on during cautions and red flags and use up all their commercials during green.
Yeah, I know.

FOX does at times frontload their breaks too but not as often as NBC does.

I guess I don't get it. The gain from newer tires at Daytona is minimal, which is the main reason I know of for short pitting. We'll see how it shakes out.

Harvick keeps asking for four tires. And they made a pretty big difference for Penske in the Clash.

Another thing is if you short pit and don't get lapped you'll lead if there's a caution..

You argued earlier that the segment system eliminated the possibility of fuel strategy going forward so yes, you don't get it.

It's a good race. Just enjoy it for what it is.

I think the manufacturers went to nascar/tv and said we need more recognition because I have never heard so much talk about the manufacturers as I have this speedweeks.

I said other than on tracks where you can pit without getting lapped.

Anyone else hearing the track audio keep dropping off?

A bit belated, but I'm glad stage one ended as cars crossed the finsih line instead of with a caution thrown in the middle of a lap.

I'm NOT a fan of how the announcers acted as if Kyle Busch actually won the race, though.
