Daytona 500 RACE thread

I don't get it how they race so intensely in the first two stages then ride around single file in the final stage. I guess they figure since they have made it this far, they want to make sure they are around for the final laps?

it's a shut out. the fronts are packed up, nobody's going to make a move up front until the end or if a caution falls

All the guys that race hard the whole time usually take themselves out by this point, mostly just the smart ones left

Both of those wrecks were near the end of stages when they decided to get more aggressive

The guys left are mostly the ones who realize that winning the Daytona 500 is a bigger deal than coming home with a small smattering of stage points.

that would be a good reason to stretch it with unlimited green whites, I don't think coming in early is such a good thing

This is the quiet before the storm that is a brewing and uh a coming.

Off topic question, but does anyone know what the record for the most posts on a race thread, pretty sure this is the longest one I've been a part of

This is how they should be racing the whole time, relatively speaking. I have no issue if the smart single file game. 500 miles is a long race and there's still a lot of variables. RP racing should look like this more often. This is how it was for most of the RP era until guys lost fear in crashing the last 5-10 years.

Much longer. Any race with a rain or other delay of several hours could go into 30 pages or more.

They must have used up all the tape they had and borrowed some to get the rear end of KyBu's car to hold together. I thought he was down-for-the-count when he got hit in the arse after blowing that second tire - but he's still out there driving around

Guys I think everyone is chilling out a bit until after the green flag pit stops. Then with fresh tires it’s gonna be nuts

I've seen this "train" run for many years. Nothing new. Run off some laps and be ready to go at the end.

Sure, but what about ones that dont have delays, it is an interesting question he did pose.
