Dumbest ending to a race I've ever seen

Oh, I forgot....A Roger Penske run Indy.....Three races back to back...and cars were launched on each of the three days. Optics not optimal as they say.

The Nascar drivers went to the well one too many times, but nobody wanted to yield, so they got bit by the racing gods. Just like a herd of lemmings. The everybody gets a participation trophy crowd has a problem with it.

I've seen tracks tear up cars before, and I've seen cars tear up tracks before, but DAMN I've never seen the back and forth between cars and tracks we saw at the end of the race today! The cars may have won but the track definitely got its shots in before it's curb carcass got scraped up and dragged of the surface!

many times they have continued to show some stick n ball program like the amateur Golf thing while shuffling the start of the race to FS 2 that I couldn't get, so I am not surprised Nascar takes it in the shorts for Amateur golf. I still cry for the loss of Speed network

USGA has some SERIOUS pull. That’s why any US Open type event, even the Senior Open is played on NBC. It’s wild but the US Open gets around 6-7 million viewers for the final round
 
I've gone at it with Bobby thousands of times, and he's annoyed me as well, but he's still one of my favorite posters who belongs no where on my blocked list.

Probably not the best way to make friends man XD

Race was fine before that. That said, I don't like the Indy road course at all. I'd prefer the oval.

I'm sure this has been discussed already in the race thread or whatever, but I don't understand why Briscoe was penalized. What rule did he break? If you're forced off of any part of the course and manage to gain any track position, you're supposed to give it back and you're good. That's what he did, so why the black flag?

I’m trying to remember I don’t think I have anyone blocked. Been close a few times but thought better of it. I figured if I did it once it’d get easier each time and then before I know it I’d be talking to myself on here

It's one thing to run off the track if it your choice, but Briscoe didn't have that choice...at least Hamlin paid the price for what he did thanks to Briscoe, he would have got away with another one if it wasn't for Briscoe.

Originally I thought Briscoe got bumped off/forced off into the grass too, but went back and looked at it a couple times (can't say for sure), but more looked like he just knew it wasn't going to work thru there 3-wide after Hamlin ran him wide, bailed on the idea before he got hit, went thru the grass, the moment he went off he was borderline 3rd place behind Hamlin/AJ in turn 1, so I guess he would have had to give up the spot to 3rd behind AJ to not get penalized for advancing position?, not sure if that's why they penalized him but that's the only thing that halfway makes sense to me.

still don't think he should get black flagged there, when it's basically preventative wreck avoidance and he gave the spot back, he was in 2nd before getting run wide by the 11 that slowed him down.
 
Anyone pissed at Briscoe for spinning Hamlin has lost their mind. His only other choice when Hamlin pushed him wide was to force his way back to the racing surface before he hit the grass, which would have resulted in Hamlin being wrecked infront of the entire field.

So what would you rather prefer, Briscoe save his race by bulldozing through Hamlin, or Briscoe saving his race by bulldozing Hamlin?

then said I did what I had to do to win........said that too

My guess is that after Briscoe had been penalized twice (first it's a stop and go in turn 10, then it's stop in the pits and we'll hold you for a while), he believed that if he admitted to intentionally wrecking the leader while under penalty, that more severe penalties would be forthcoming. Which is probably correct. Maybe he should still own it, but that was most likely his reason for playing dumb.

I could see this as the reason. He didn’t want to get into anymore trouble lol.

that’s what i was hoping for. I’m kinda surprised Hamlin listened to all of what Briscoe had to say before walking away

When you miss the racing surface you have to come to a complete stop. He did not

Is that rule in place for grassy areas? From my understanding it was only a penalty for missing paved "runoff" areas such as the bus stop at The Glen or the final turn(s) at the Charlotte Roval.

Areas like the bus stop cut the distance off the lap so you are required to stop instead of roll through, cutting through the grass is cutting distance off the lap and required a stop. If you noticed people at that part of the track missed that corner but werent required to stop because you had to follow the paved surface back around which didnt cut lap distance but actually added it.
 
The bus stop is pretty easy to make a rule for, but getting shoved into the grass is another story. It would be different if a driver was cutting the course to gain an edge IMO. So Nascar besides Chase stopping in the run off, got a stop and go AND a hold on top of it. I would like to find that mess somewhere in the rulebook. Probably in the we don't know what the hell happened chapter.

Did he get "shoved" or just forced out? You have to know where you are on the racetrack and outside on a right hander 3 wide usually doesnt work out well. That being said when he got back on the track he should have done his stop and go and everything would have been ok.
 
With that part of the road course being permanent, I don't understand why the curbs there aren't concrete or asphalt instead of metal pieces that are prone to wear and tear.
