bringing in a whole different crew.

The hubby and I worked with a dirt team back in the 70s. The driver had started racing back in the 50s with AJ Foyt. We were pretty well sponsored, but after 4 years, it just got too expensive to run. Most local tracks run Friday and Saturday nights. Nascar put out a commercial saying to support your local tracks. Then they run races Friday and Saturday nights.
Car count and attendance when Truck, Busch or cup runs on Friday or Saturday nights is dismal.
With the ever escalating cost of racing even at the grass roots level I have no idea how many rich kids have the talent needed to make it in cup...
Cup owners are also responsible for bringing the young talent into the lower series.I don't mind if a Cup driver participates in a few Xfinity races a year, they've always done that to an extent. It's when the Cup owners got so heavily involved that I lost interest. Penske, Gibbs, Roush, Childress, Hendrick by way of JR Motorsports, they've all got their hands deep in the Xfinity cookie jar. Some of them are even bringing the Cup crews down to NXS now. Kinda like bringing an AR-15 to a knife fight.
So....you're okay with drivers getting injured and sometimes dying from an accident that in hindsight was easily preventable with the right technology in the car and on the track?
Yea, if that's your attitude, good luck with your new sport man.
Cup owners are also responsible for bringing the young talent into the lower series.
Fully agree with that. Trucks this year are going to be great, no Kyle Busch to ruin the series (No offense to KyBu fans, but that's just how it is) and Cup has gotten off to a good start. What we've seen from XFinity so far is a double-duty driver get his season ended in the opener, one of the worst races in the series' recent history at Atlanta, and a Vegas race that ended with a non-points driver not having the balls to bump Dillon out of the way to win his first career race. I wouldn't be suprised in the least if NASCAR shuts the series down after Xfinity sponsorship leaves.
I've been a fan for 27 years. This is the first year I just don't care
I watched daytona but skipped last two races
these are some things I miss about the sport I loved
1)Season long sponsors. I miss the fact that companies would sponsor a guy for a whole year. Nowyou got 4-5 companies sponsoring. yes i understand because its expensive, but i just miss the fact that when you thought of your driver you instantly thought of the sponsor to
examples--gordon- dupont/ bobby labonte-interstate, rusty wallace-mille,r earnhardt-goodwrench, mark martin-valvoline, harry gant-skoal, kenny schrader-kodak, ernie irvan-kodiak, davey allison-havoline
2)i miss alcohol and tobacco being a huge part of nascar. i know the government and their tobacco regulations but it went so well with the sport
like most races had alcohol as a sponsor or something car related that made sense for nascar
heres some races from 1993
gm goodwrench 500, pontiac excitement 400,motorcraft quality parts 500,winston 500,budweiser 500,champion spark plug 500,miller 400, slick 50 300, die hard 300,bud at the glen,goodys 500,ac delco 500, hooters 400
i mean those names just scream nascar and racing and a good time compared to names like this
the profit on cnbc 500,duck commander 500,camping world rv sales 400, go bowling.com 400,oral-b usa 500, bank of america 500
3) i miss the season long points. yea this new playoff is sort of exciting but points no matter anymore. it use to be a huge deal to finish in the top 10 but does anyone care now?
4) i miss bob jenkins, benny parsons, ned jarrett
no one could compare to them. they talked ot the fans like they were actual fans and knew the sport. they weren;t talking down to us like larry mac explaining what loose or tight is for the 500th time. they werent coming up with stupid catchphrases like dw. they didnt have these stupid graphics or pre race shows
5) i miss nascar not caring if they were accepted by mainstream america or if it was considered cool. oh so you think nascar is full of hicks who get drunk every night? thats fine
6) i miss the drivers that looked like a mans man, guys that looked like they would get under the car and help the crew. guys who didnt always wear sunglasses and a hat. guys who would wreck the car and hop out and get right to work. guys that looked like after the race theyd go to the local bar drink some beer and shoot the bull
7) i miss the danger of the sport. i dont want anyone to die, but the great thing about nascar was the danger. the fact that these guys were hitting the wall at 180 plus. guys racing in the summertime in the south getting out of the car looking like they just went through the toughest battle ever. now we get competition cautions, all this fancy in car cooling stuff and all that
8) i miss the nicknames. "the intimidator" "handsome harry" "the ice man" the wonder boy" "swervin irvan (yes thats mean)" "mr. excitement" "the silver fox" "the king"...sure theres still some "smoke" "the outlaw" "wild thing" "rowdy" "the closer"
but then you get ones like "cousin carl" which is blah
i m sure i have more if i could think of it but tahts just some
i never said i wanted people to get hurt or die. ITS THE DANGER OF IT.
this video right here is what im speaking of
ricky rudd is just compleely spent! how often do we see that now? these guys race 3 plus hours and get out of the car and dont look tired at all (yes it has to do with these guys being in better shape) but it just looks to safe now
I am not sure how many people regularly attend local Saturday night short track races but it is a wonderful addition or replacement for Nascar sanctioned events.
I enjoy local short track racing. I just wish the car counts were better here in MI. They have to supplement the show with school bus figure 8's and Dodge Neons buzzing around the track at 40mph. Modifieds and late models are dwindling.

Yes a sport at the core, but the side shows are often very entertaining.Sport but with a lot of entertainment built around it.

sorry i was wrong
found this
During the 2005 season, Ganassi announced Marlin would be replaced by David Stremme for the 2006 season in order to attract the younger male demographic
to me thats wrong....i think marlin would me more marketable driving a coors car then stremme

I've never bought into the 'mystery cautions' conspiracy theory. To each his own. These are not proper definitions but I consider a show to have more of a license to manipulate things where a sport is something where you have to play by the rules. I consider Nascar to have show qualities as at times you have mystery debris cautions to tighten up the field and the idea of giving unearned laps back (lucky dog) is not very sporting.
http://www.robbygordon.com/news/Whatever happened to Robbie Gordon? He just disappeared.......used to like watching him race.
Is 'danger' the word you want? It sounds more like you're talking about physical stress. Yes, they're now in better condition. They also have hydration systems in the car now. And the races taking less time, since the cars are faster. But does sweating make a better race? Drivers in better shape are more alert later in the race, less likely to make a mistake. What did you enjoy about seeing Rudd (or Stewart at his first Indy win) requiring several bags of fluids pumped into them? I'd rather have seen them able to celebrate those wins in a vertical position; I know they would have preferred it.i never said i wanted people to get hurt or die. ITS THE DANGER OF IT.

The biggest thing I miss about the "Old Days" are the independents. The Jimmie Means, Buddy Arringtons,J.D. McDuffees They didn't stand a snowballs chance in hell of winning but they were there every week. Guys like Delma Cowert who was surprised he made the Dayona 500 and said hell I'm going to the bar. Every once in awhile you had a guy like Bill Elliott or Alan Kulwicki who showed up in a car they built themselves, work their tales off and win a championship. The personalities, can you imagine Jeff or Jimmy saying it done blowed up like Sterlin Marlin used to. That's what I miss.
I was less apt to watch NNS and Truck series races of there were no Cup drivers in the field.
And you wonder why people registered but don't post.
Guy took part of his time to come here and share something and what some of you do? Shun him.
His opinion matters, just like yours and mine.
If the thread didn't clue you into what it was going go be about, then why you come in?
I love you regulars here but what is wrong with you?
Anyways OP, I'm with you in feeling like NASCAR has been going a totally different direction but have to put up with it as long as I'm willing to see my guy race. Still not sure how I'll tackle the season next year when gordon goes. Maybe watch a race here and there.

My local track has been fortunate enough to hold its own but numbers did drop some during the sour economy.
Yes, he's as entitled to his opinion as you or I are to ours, but that doesn't mean everyone has to post 'Ditto!'. It's called a forum for a reason.Guy took part of his time to come here and share something and what some of you do? Shun him.

I've seen the "I'm done with this" post on more different forums and topics than Chad Knaus has seen lug nuts. Maybe this is jasn88cubs's farewell post; either way, I wish him well. But I'm tired of posters who tell us why they're finished with something, then continue to hang around repeatedly reposting their displeasure. Why continue to frequent a forum on a subject you've already said you dislike?
thats fine if people dont agree with me. im getting more into formula 1 an drag racing now
Hey, I bitch about plate races more than anyone on record. I don't think the racing is as entertaining as other tracks, but I'm not going to say I won't be watching them.there is one around here now that made a big production last year of leaving after this years Vegas race. Reminds me when I was a kid on the playground when a kid would say they weren't going to play because the game wasn't being played his way. Take my ball and go home waaa. So what, I can see the OP's point, agree with some of it, but I am not at a tipping point yet like the poster is to quit watching, might get there someday who knows.
